Craft Idea: Woodburning Palm Trees On A Jewelry Rack

Do you want to have a stylish jewelry rack? I love all things Hawaiian, and the palm tree is the quintessential symbol of the islands that I adore. Much of my artwork celebrates the beaches and the sunsets found in Hawaii and Polynesia, so I decided to decorate my jewelry rack by woodburning palm trees on it. Actually, this wood hanger is a coat rack that I use as a place to store my necklaces and other jewelry, which just goes to show fixtures can often have more than one purpose. I purchased this affordable wooden rack at my local crafting store, which is a budget friendly place for finding wood fixtures to design with pyrography. Honestly, I spent six months working on this project off and on, which just goes to show crafting projects can be done at your leisure. Are you busy with work and pinched for time? Do not worry about finishing these projects right away because you can always come back to these when you have free time later. The beauty of working on a crafting project over time, such as woodburning, is that you will have a beautiful piece of d├ęcor for your home once you are finished. If you live on a tight budget and have more time than money to plan on making a gift for a family member or friend, you could start working on woodburning designs on a picture frame or a coat rack months in advance.

The Decorated Coat Rack Thus Far

Here is what the coat rack looks like with the one palm tree I have begun to woodburn on.

Step One: Draw On The Palm Trees

Here I began drawing on the palm trees.

First I began by drawing on the palm trees. This took a little bit of time as I had to positioned my hand awkwardly so I could sketch the palms wrapping around the coat rack, which is going to be a hanger for my jewelry.

Step Two: Woodburn The Top of The Rack First

For some reason when it comes to woodburning I love to make the images wrap around the object, which gives it a three dimension effect. I did that with the frame I wood burned birds on, which you can see in the slide show above.

Step Three: Continue Woodburning The Trees

Continue woodburning each tree from top to bottom.

Here I continue to wood burn each tree from top to bottom. Watch the videos to see how wood burning looks, and stay tuned for the next part of this tutorial.

In this stage of the woodburning I have sketched out the palm trees I would like to etch into the wood.

Here I am beginning to burn the trees into the wood itself.

You seem pretty good as an artist, you already are very good as a writer. Is there something you are not good at? :)

Very interesting Sweetie.
