How to Successfully Kick a Christmas Sweater Addiction

Back Away From the Santa Applique Sweater

Yes, you!  Back away, and then turn and run! That sweater is not going to make anyone happy. It is just going to make them cringe, yes cringe. Don't be fooled by all the complements you get at the Christmas party, they are just being polite, trust me. You are the conversation piece, not the sweater. Please don't tell them how long you have had the sweater either, that will only make it worse.

U.C.S.S. Ugly Christmas Sweater Syndrome

Some Think It's Fashionable

Sorry if I offend anyone but...the tacky Christmas sweater no matter who made it (be it couture or whatever)  is not fashionable.  I saw a lady the other day head to toe in red and white with Santa appliques all over.  She proudly sauntered around with her perfectly coifed black hair.  I know for a fact that people told her how nice her sweater was.  I walked away because my facial expressions will sometimes give me away and I didn't want to burst out laughing.

Tacky Christmas Sweater Parties

Yes, if you don't believe me. People hold actual Tacky Christmas Sweater Parties. All over North America and who knows where else people are making fun of your sweater. Maybe you might call it a jumper, pullover, sweatshirt, jersey, or guernsey. Whatever, they are still not fashionable. Fun, funny, cute, (on babies and little children) but not for adults.

How to Kick the Habit

My advice is to never don one unless you are going to a theme party, or dressing up like one of Santa's helpers. I'm not saying throw it away. Just refrain from wearing it other than the occasions I just described. Surely though I know a lot of people don't care about what they wear and that is fine. I like a good laugh as much as the next person. I could also call Clinton Kelly and Stacy London and see what they have to say.

To all who wear your lovely Christmas sweaters. I love you all and you make the Christmas Season or Holiday Season or whatever it is PC to call it these days, much more merrier.

I have added some wonderful Christmas hubs below, by some terrific HubPages Authors.  Take some time to give them a dose of Christmas cheer and love.  Cheers to all my wonderful HubPages friends.  May the season find you healthy and happy!

These are some of the most hideous sweaters I've ever laid eyes upon! I had a lot of fun reading this, Tammy! I'm sorry I didn't read it sooner. I know several people that think they're hot sh*t with X-Mas sweaters...

I think a great idea would be to have a Christmas sweater party in which people vote for the worst sweater ever manufactured! The prize should be a gallon of gas and a couple of matches.

Thanks so much, Tammy! Here's to a Happy, Happy New Year!

I have to admit that I have one in my closet. I only use it for fishing. It scares the hell out of the other fishermen so they don't bother me. My wife says you should have your own TV show. Kind regards Bearclaw

Hee hee...I think a lot of people have them (usually a gift from someone else).

Thanks to you and your wife about the tv show thing what a really nice complement.

Happy New Year!

Great read Tammy also funny. My father in law went to one of those tacky sweater parties a few weeks ago, he said one of the people there bid over $50 for his on eBay! I saw it was u-g-l-y ugly! Pretty funny though, especially seeing the dancers above your article, it must be a hot trend! It's been years since I owned one, I might have to get one next year to have some fun with it!

You know, I think the tacky christmas sweaters are right up there with decking yourself out in holiday-themed 'jewelry'. You know what I mean, the giant christmas bell earrings, the light-up necklaces that look like little strands of christmas lights, the jingle bell bracelets (which I am sure get pulled right off a horse's harness)? All worth a great laugh, anyway!

I do like your style of writing, by the way. :D

Frugal Fanny...Or how about wearing a santa hat every day after Thanksgiving until the Christmas season is over. LOL...Thanks so much for the funny and nice comments.

Hilarious! My daughter went looking for an Ugly Christmas sweater too late in the season for her sorority's USCC party. I told her she needs to hit Goodwill in early November! Cute hub!

hey Jane...I got this idea from one a doctor who brags she has a whole trunk full of them. Her sweaters are ugly to be sure.

Thanks for checking out my hub and commenting. Such a nice comment too LOL.

Sincerely Tammy

I didn't want to disappoint so I added some of my personal faves that I found.  I totally dig the kitty cat one...saw a lady wearing that one in Walmart the other day with green tights and red cowboy boots.  So if you must, please feel free to choose one.
