The beginnings of love

For fourteen years, he waited, hoped and dreamed of the day that he could hold her in his arms. He had wanted to tell her something but then terrible things happened.

Jong Woo was from a prominent family. He was sent to the United States to study but returned because he wanted to be near his father. A stepmother whose attention he craved, was only interested in her husband and own child, Jung Woo's sister.

Seo Yeon was a poor girl whose father was abusive to her and her mother. When he was accused of murder, no one thought differently and everyone was happy to see him go to jail. The man was executed days before the real culprit was caught but the police department covered the truth.

Known as the murderer’s daughter, Seo Yeon faced many obstacles both in her neighborhood and at School; until she met a friend.

It was a rainy day in mid-autumn. He’d glimpsed her the day before but never got a good look at her face. Now here she was in the park and he could see her. She was beautiful but very shy. He spoke to her but she was apprehensive.

They met in the park where Jung Woo decided to befriend Seo Yeon. It started raining then, and Seo Yeon ran home to get her umbrella, getting soaked in the process. She gave the umbrella to Jung Woo so he could get home without getting wet.

School wasn’t what he expected and his beautiful friend was the object of ridicule. Then he found out her father was a murderer. Should he be afraid or should he be brave? Jung Woo chose bravery and decided that “I only need one friend” – a line taken from the drama.

The love of money

Unbeknownst to the children there was a power struggle for money between the mother of a boy whom neither kids have ever met but fate would bring them together and the father of Jung Woo.

Jung Woo’s grandfather was wealthy with wife and young child. On the man’s deathbed, he left all his wealth to his youngest son, which upset Jung Woo's father.

Jung Woo’s father, determined to get the money, kidnapped mother and child. As the child tries to get away is set upon by vicious dogs, yet he succeeds with the help of his mother’s nurse. His leg becomes maimed in the process. Mother is placed in a mental institution as a means of coercion and will remain there for the next 14 years.

Unthinkable

In a bid for revenge the boy’s mother orders Jung Woo be kidnapped. In order to save Jung Woo, Seo Yeon follows the car and is taken as well. During her capture, one of her captors sexually assaults her in the presence of her boyfriend.

Jung Woo gets free and runs away, leaving his beloved girlfriend behind. Finding a telephone, he called her stepfather and his own father for help, telling them where Seo Yoon is. The father wanting to cover his own crimes burns the evidence and bribes the captors to say that she was dead.

Fourteen years later

A death is reported at a mansion secured by high walls, electronic gates and surveillance cameras. Jung Woo is the detective on call at the residence belonging to Harry and Zoey.

Jung Woo meets Zoey, a beautiful fashion designer who reminds him of Lee Seo Yeon. She, however denies she knows him. What he doesn’t know is that her quest is to make him suffer by letting him get close to her. Little did she know that her walls would soon break down when she finds out that:

  • He didn’t really neglect her but tried to get help
  • He hadn’t forgiven himself for leaving her in the shed
  • He never doubted for one minute that she was still alive
  • He left home at age fifteen, the same day she was declared dead in order to find her and never returned, estranging his father.
  • He became a detective just so he could find her captors and the people responsible, and to find her
  • He moved in with her mom to give her some comfort after losing her only child
  • for fourteen years he kept the umbrella she gave him.
  • For fourteen years he kept her memory alive; every single detail of the time they spent together.

For fourteen years, he waited and now he was confused about a woman who did things just like his first and only love but there was one problem, Harry.

Who is Harry?

Harry and Zoey live together yet he’d never kissed her. They plan to get married when Zoey is ready but Harry is impatient. Now they are back in Korea he is anxious that she will start remembering things she’d blocked from her memory.

Fourteen years ago a nurse ran away with a little boy, escaping the cruelty of an older brother who was fighting for his father’s money. While escaping the dogs were let loose on him and mangled one of his legs leaving him a half cripple.

He was taken to a room in the derelict part of town where the nurse kept him locked up while she planned their getaway. In a quest to escape, the boy sets the room on fire and is saved by a fifteen-year-old boy and a beautiful girl.

A few days later, on their way to freedom, thinking that his mother is dead, the nurse and the boy sees a girl all dirty and hurt after escaping bondage. The nurse knowing that she had been a part of what happened (she was the one ordered to make the kidnapping happen), refuse to help her but the boy insists she take her with them. They escaped to France where they spent the next fourteen years.

Seo Yeon was convinced by the boy that no one was looking for her nor did they care. He convinced her that her boyfriend abandoned her and was not looking for her anymore. Knowing the life she led before, and that she was now a soiled girl (being assaulted), she thought it was a good idea to escape and let everyone think of her as dead.

For fourteen years Harry waited for Zoey’s heart and just when he thought he had it their past came knocking at the door.

His revenge for his mother’s death and his crippled leg, Harry befriends his older brother. Soon things will get messy as the people involved in the brawl some fourteen years ago starts to die one at a time.

Conclusion

This drama has so much drama; is fast paced, exciting and gripping. The acting is superb with a very lovable villain who goes crazy in the end. Harry will try to keep Zoey by his side by any means such as blackmail, brainwash and finally threats.

He ends up framing her for murder then when that doesn't work he holds her and Jung Woo at gunpoint. In the end, Jung Woo is wounded but survives and Harry ends up in a mental institution.

Jung Woo blames his father for the entire things, which could have been prevented, had he accepted his brother into the family instead of his greed for money. Now Jung Woo has to live with the fact that his greatest rival is actually his uncle.
