What If I Can Dream

If I Can Dream Elvis

"There must be lights burning brighter somewhere , got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue, if I can dream of a better land where all of my brothers walk hand in hand, tell me why , oh why, oh why, can't my dream come true.Oh, Why?" There must be Peace and understanding sometime, strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear, if I can dream of a warmer sun were hope keeps shining on everyone. Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear? Were lost in a cloud with to much rain, were trapped in a world that's troubled with pain, but as long as a man has the strength to dream, he can redeem his soul and fly, deep in my heart there's a trembling question," these were words of a man who had a exemplary gift to perform and a passion for people.

Listening to The Essential Elvis Presley CD that was given as a gift the words of the song, "If I Can Dream" has so much passion, so much feeling , so much emotion. Elvis had seen the pain in the 70's but these words still ring true at this specific moment and time. There is sorrow and pain. Where is the Peace and understanding? I have witnessed the World becoming worse , I see it on the Internet everyday. People who you have never met look to torment and lash out at each other. They do not have any idea who you are, where you are from, what kind of person you are in the real World. They make assumptions not realizing that there is a person on the other side of the keyboard. A person that puts there pants, shoes, skirts, shirts or any other garment on the same way. The work, enjoy there family and there life but there is always someone out there who is trying to seek and destroy.

Elvis dreamed of a better place he didn't understand all of the suffering , it really hasn't changed much. Why can't we walk hand-in-hand? Why can't we get along? The words that were sang by Elvis made me realize that I to can dream and just like him so long as I am living, breathing and alive I to can redeem my soul and fly. we were not born to harm, but to love, when others hurt, forgive but do not allow others to taunt, harm , badger or cause you pain.

If you have Suspicious Minds, I just can't help believing that Kentucky rain will come out and you will shine. If you are a Devil In Disguise stop being so Moody Blue and Follow That Dream wherever that may dream may lead. Life is to short to get All Shook Up, please try not to step on other people's Blue Suede Shoes, maybe having A Little Less Conversation there would be Peace In The Valley.

As for me the Wonder Of You makes me believe that If I Can Dream , memories of Hurt only make me understand that the Big Boss Man is watching over me and you can bet that the Big Boss Man is watching over you too. I gotta follow that dream wherever that dream may lead, and you don't know me, but I can try to promise you a Pocket Full Of Rainbows.

AEvans. Hi. If I Can Dream is a beautiful hub,

Somewhere out there the lights are burning brighter, the birds flying higher and the sky a brighter blue, we just have to dream a little harder.

To forgive the folks that are trying to hurt us or take what was not their's and never will be.

Maybe one day very soon, we can all walk hand in hand in peace, I really do hope so.

Elvis is my all time favorite, regardless of what some folks said about him.

I have boxes of his records and albums, from decades ago, but no record player to play them at the moment. All his music is very special to me and always will be.

I need to read your hub a couple of more times, it was wonderful.

Thank you for sharing it with us, it gave me some stuff to thing about. :) :)

You're probably very young. Moments of acute desire for a better world come and go and it seems the only place that can offer this dream is Paradise, that is, after one dies. But before we reach it, we're left to live in this ghetto. But I concur, 'If I Can Dream' is a powerful and beautiful song.

Hello, hello: I was inspired to write it last night because the world is getting darker and nobody seems to get along. There is always some kind of hoopla happening this world. But I am listening to the words in my mind as I right you. :)

samboiam: You are welcome Elvis had some many stories to tell just like ourselves he expressed himself in such a powerful way. :)

Nice Hub... Nice Dream !

I too often wonder why we can't all just get along with one another. Where does all the hatred, jealousy, selfishness and greed come from ?

Instead of getting better it seems as if each new generation strives to be worse than one just gone !

Why don't we let the Dreamer's run the place for a while ?

I'd vote for them.

This is just beautiful. It makes me think of John Lennon and Imagine as well. I wish for a wonderful world too, it is possible but we need to trust one another to make it so. I am in a new country as you know with a new language and very few friends. What a great world it would be if we could all be trusting enought to embrace new people into our lives and to live and let live and welcome newness instead of being fearful of anything new. I am open to everything in my life and loved this hub!

Thanks for writing this!

We are called to be one with the Father and one with each other in the term we call "Love"... we as a society have been infected with so much and yet we still need to have hope and faith to move into the next day together.

The answer to peace is caring about one another and blessing those who God places in our path... it is simple is it not to love and be loved... after all tha Father loves us in a profound way.

Blessings and Hug for a great Hub.

As always your considerate words touch many, including me. And, even if there are those out there that like to inflict hurtful ones at others, remember those lashing out and causing problems are the ones most afraid. Usually, they are insecure and hardened from the notion that life has done them wrong. I try to avoid the places and people that continue to bring me down. I admire your talents to still keep faith to make a change. Perhaps, by the energy created from all us followers through our common hopes, wishes, and dreams many differences will be made, for living in the here and now paves the way to our destiny

Back in the 50's Elvis, although poor, had a mother who wanted her boy to be nice and show good manners. Apparently that stuck with him. Somewhere between that point and today, too many mothers lost that skill. Too many of today's younger generation has been raised on the idea of shoving others out of the way to get theirs, never mind the manners. They don't see any harm in hurting those you do not know. The Internet and texting have further contributed to creating a video game world that centers on self. We are rapidly becoming a society that fails to recognize that the manners and kindness our mothers taught us is that thin layer between civilization and chaos in the world. We really don't need to go there because there's no way back. The road is blocked by ignorance. Thanks for highlighting an important subject 'A'.

AEvans profile image

AEvans 6 years ago from SomeWhere Out There Author

Wayne Brown: I wish that all would remember manners that our parents instilled in us, we raise our children with manners if people get offended well that is truly there issue. Our children respect others and our son even opens doors for young girls and ladies. I know the younger generation is lost and it is a very frightening situation, everyone is angry and many do not have any respect that also includes in person as well as on the Internet. Thank you for leaving a response that also makes others think just like the ones above you.:)

I join with you in wishing for a kinder and more tolerant world. Why is it my place to stand up to sarcasm and insults showered upon me in the interests of "humor" or "help" or even indifference? Why is peace seen as weakness? Why is cruelty perceived as strength? You are correct in pointing out that some are made bold by the anonymity offered by the Internet--bad news for tolerance and mutual respect.

As a society we seem far more angry than before. Perhaps there are more pressures than when I was young(er), or perhaps the pressures are simply more subtle and it is less clear how to cope with them. I will always believe, however, that we are better served through kindness to others. And that will bring us closer to the dream Elvis sang about, so many years ago.

Thanks, this was a beautiful hub.

Springboard profile image

Springboard 6 years ago from Wisconsin

Although it is outside the theme of your hub just slightly, I think even over-adoration can be a horrible thing. What Elvis experienced by his fans seems to me to have been tormenting. Elvis' talent became the foundation for his own personal prison. He suffered enormously as a result of his fans, and his talents. He couldn't take a walk down the street with his wife, or share a day in the park with his kid. He couldn't enjoy a hamburger in a burger joint, or even go to a movie. He couldn't gather with a few close friends at a local bar and have a couple of drinks and good conversation.

His fans, for all of their professed love and adoration for the man, stole his life away from him. And it happens today all too often, still, as well.

As for people in general, there will always be someone in the world who, for whatever reason, will find you to be objectionable. Whether it's founded on anything concrete or not. That's the world we live in. All we can do is live our own lives, and distance ourselves from those who aim to make life miserable for us.

We know who we are, and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

AEvans profile image

AEvans 6 years ago from SomeWhere Out There Author

Cheeky Girl: He was sexy to bad many of us were so young because they broke the mold when they created him. :)

Springboard: I agree with you , yes there are people who can and will make it miserable for anyone and those are the people we have to learn to avoid but at the same time forgive. All of us certainly do know who we are and that is truly all that matters. :)

You are right - it seems that those places can truly only exist in utopia or a place in the mind. aevans Hello sweet one. You are a precious gem. Elvis loved the Lord, he was on fire for the Lord. I think he knew the truth inside. His drugs messed him up. He was loved just the same. Life can take us down, the Good news is it does not have to. WORDILY gain is useless, because there is no guarantee. It stays behind when we pass. Our treasures are laid up in heaven. You have it AEvans it is an inside job. If Jesus is in the heart we are new creatures in Christ. We are like little kids learning and growing. If no Jesus no peace. We live in a fallen world. The enemy is real. He wants no one happy. What is happy. Happy flees I think. Joy, Peace, Love no one can steal or rob from you unless we let them. It is not easy but there is a letter to us that give directions for truth and abundant life. It does not mean we life on Primrose lane. That awaits us in Paradise. We will be persecuted for sharing the Gospel truth. But in the end, and in this lifetime it is our hope and truth. Many are in a mess. lets us pray they will come to know Jesus. I know for me I was a void and nothing filled the hole until I asked Jesus into my heart as my Lord. I am writing a novel. Scented Oil chapters one and two are posted. You might like it. I would be honored.

You know your words have inspired me when I have been down. Yes at the hubs, it was like you read me. You knew love. Love never fails. Keep on keeping on AEvans You are loved by many. You are talented, God Blessed you with a gift for writing. I know for me it has been self discovery. It is all good, sometimes I am humbled. God is working on me he is for us. Love and Hugs. I have rambled on. Many Blessings.

Elvis also loved the Lord but just like you said he allowed those drugs into his world or he would be alive today and what a blessing he would be, but truly he still is all of his music was ahead of his time all we have to do is listen to those words, they are so prolific. :)

The 60's left us something to think about after all. I was listening to a song from 68 that had the line, "now we're fighting a war over there, and no mater the winner, we can't pay the price". Art has a way of coming back around to wake you up, if you just pay attention. Great lyric usage.

What a beautiful tribute to Elvis´s heart! Beyond his music, he was a caring soul. We can make our dreams come true, sister. We must learn to live with our differences about belief, and then work on harmonizing. IN the end that´s what matters! That´s what The Great Architect would want...
