If your life could be compared to a song, which song would it be, and Why?
If there was a song that best described my life, it would have to be Family Tradition by Hank Williams Jr.. This song is all about growing up and carrying your family's ways and values. Even if they are not always right, you will always have your family.
I grew up listening to this song. My father was a biker, my mother drank and smoked pot. There was even speed laying around sometimes; I remember thinking they were lucky charms: blue moons, pink hearts, yellow stars. My sister and I were at home when a lot of family and friends would come to our house for parties. Our family of aunts and uncles alone is about forty people. All of our relatives were either bikers, partiers, or a little of both. Most importantly, our entire family was always together!
Now I am an adult and I am proud to say that I am carrying on our family traditions. They may not be the best, but they are our's. One thing you know you will always have is your family. Our family gets drunk, stoned and we sing all night long! That is our family traditions! At least we have a closeness that you do not see in these times. I actually speak to my parent's daily, my sister and brothers live a couple of blocks away and I talk to my aunts and uncles on a weekly basis, if not more.
In Hank's song, I feel that he is pointing out that no matter how disfunctional a family can be, it can still be a strong family. I do not necessarily walk in my parents' footsteps, but I know that my parents' had a great deal of influence in my life. Even if we like to let loose, we still carry strong morals and values. I hope every family could be blessed like mine:)
