My Left Foot- ( 1989 Drama)

This a true story of Irish cerebral palsy victim Christy Brown. Paralyzed from birth, Christy is considered useless by his own father but he proved his father wrong. Using his left foot, the only part of his body not afflicted, Christy learned to write and draw that made him become famous author and painter later in life. This movie will make you proud to have a mother and family like he has. Not exactly a tear jerker film although there's just one scene that will grip your heart.This movie was nominated for best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted screenplay. Daniel Day Lewis who plays Christy Brown and Brenda Fricker who played Christy's mother both won an award for their performances.

So Close - (2002 Action)

It's a story of two sisters whose father was murdered for his advanced secret satellite technology. The two sisters who are computer hackers and espionage specialists used their father's invention to their advantage over their enemies and the local law enforcement. The younger sister works at home using the computer while the older one, who calls herself "Computer Angel" is doing the field work. She is the better assassin of the two. The female cop (played by Karen Mok) is another addition to the action that made the movie kind'a cute and interesting to watch. The action sequence of this movie is worth watching.

Guarding Tess - (1994 Comedy)

A 1994 movie starring Shirley Mclaine and Nicolas Cage. Mclaine plays the part of a fictional former first lady Tess Carlisle who is known for her open disregard for protocol. She consider it a waste of the National Treasury Money, her having an entourage of bodyguards headed by Doug Chesnic (Cage). Doug, being young and virile, would rather be where the real action is, rather than being in charge of the security force of this stubborn and grumpy old lady. Tess often get her guards in trouble. Doug wants out but, interestingly, she won't let him go. She blocks out his desire to be transferred to another post. Later we will find out in one brief scene the real reason behind Tess' behavior towards Chesnic,particularly.

This movie is appealing and entertaining. It speaks to the universal yearning for someone to watch over us. And it is about loyalty.

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle - (1992 Suspense Thriller)

It is said that "The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world". But what if the hands that rocks the cradle is the avenging nanny's hands..? In fact, she is Peyton (played by Rebecca de Mornay), the widow of the doctor/obstetrician who committed suicide after featured in a scandal. Due to depression and frustration,  Peyton, who's pregnant,  lost her baby. Her assets were frozen and had to move out of their house.  These all added to her grief.

A woman (played by Annabella Sciorra) who's pregnant of her second baby went to her doctor for a routine check up. She went out of the doctor's room distressed and had an ashtma attack. She felt violated sexually by her doctor. This prompted her husband to expose the doctor's misconduct. It turned out that there were other patients that were also violated by the doctor. Humiliation and possible criminal indictments prompted him to commit suicide.

The Untouchables - (Crime Drama 1987)

An account of the battle between lawman Elliot Ness (Kevin Costner), and vicious Italian-American crime lord Al Capone (Robert de Niro), with the help of a tough Chicago street cop Malone (played by Sean Connery). This incorruptible Irish cop showed Ness the "right way to do it". Capone was known to control his businesses with violence and extortion. The most unexpected and minor of crimes, which is tax evasion, brought Capone's downfall. Sean Connery steals the show with his Oscar-winning performance. This movie is based on 1959 drama series. This is a "must watch" film.

Wonderful hub, Alta! I really like it. The only movies here I have not seen is "So Close" (I've never heard of it) and "My Left Foot," for some unknown reason. I really enjoyed your other selections, however. Thanks!

Daniel Day Lewis is one of the best. Can't wait to see My Left Foot.
