James Franco and the Invisible Art Museum

Spiderman's Best Friend

For those unfamiliar, James Franco is the actor who played Spiderman’s best friend in Marvel’s Spiderman movie series. He has appeared in other movies as well. Flyboys was another movie in which I enjoyed his acting.

I like James Franco as an actor. As a person, I don’t know too much about him. However, if his newest venture is any representation of his character, he deserves a Grammy.

A Regular Renaissance Man

Mr. Franco has recently revealed his most prolific but hidden talent, he is an artist. He is proficient in every art medium known to man. Oil, watercolor, stained glass, marble and metal sculpture, and more, you name it, he’s the next Renaissance Man. He makes Michael Angelo and Rembrandt look like amateurs. Franco has mastered the craft of invisible art.

Is This A Joke?

I know. I thought it was a joke too when I first read about it. But this is serious and Franco is being completely transparent too. Currently Franco is reproducing invisible items from the invisible movie he recently produced entitled “Red Leaves.”

The Filming of Red Leaves

Franco originally sought to produce Red Leaves in old-school traditional media with actors, props and a budget, but the film quickly became cost prohibitive. To solve the problem, Franco opted to use recent technological advances in invisible media to save on expenses. It worked he made the artistic film for zero dollars.

Thus far Franco’s collection of art work includes the invisible film entitled “Red Leaves,” one can purchase the invisible film for $25, an invisible costume from the film for $50 dollars, and a scultpure for $100.

MONA: the Museum of Non-Visible Art

Franco has recently teamed up with friends and fellow invisible artists Brainard and Delia Carey, the art duo known as Praxis. The invisible trio has recently collaborated the opening of the Museum of Non-Visible Art, (MONA) and yes, the museum too is invisible.

Other Invisible Works

Other works of art have been selling for as much as $10,000 each but have been limited to single original works ie., no copies or prints - the actual original. The first work of art sold in this catagory is entitled “Fresh Air.” Below is the actual description from their website.

From The Website

Pledge $10,000 or more

sold out 0 of 1 remaining
By Praxis - Conceptual - Fresh Air -This is a unique piece, only this one is for sale. The air you are purchasing is like buying an endless tank of oxygen. No matter where you are, you always have the ability to take a breath of the most delicious, clean-smelling air that the earth can produce. Every breath you take gives you endless peace and health. This artwork is something to carry with you if you own it. Because wherever you are, you can imagine yourself getting the most beautiful taste of air that is from the mountain tops or fields or from the ocean side; it is an endless supply.

Only Known Photo of Fresh Air

I managed to contact the new owners of Fresh Air and they were gracious enough to send me this photo. It is also the only known photo of this important work of art on the web.

The Disclaimer...

Each piece of art comes with a disclaimer.

• Important! You are not buying a visible piece of art; you are buying the title and description card for the imagined artwork.

Another piece for sale is Franco’s own work, a life-sized invisible prop from the invisible movie, “Red Leaves.” It’s a life-szed boat for only $100.

More Great Stuff to Buy!

Pledge $100 or more

LIMITED REWARD 198 of 200 remaining
By James Franco - Sculpture- Boat of Captain -- A full-scale steamboat that the Chief lived in, on the river, for the James Franco movie, "Red Leaves." The steamboat was meant to live on and this replica full scale model actually floats, though there is no engine.

Thus far as you can see there are only two copies of the boat left for sale. That’s nearly $20,000 in invisible sales.

Actually, I wouldn’t mind having one of these boats. I could put it in the living room for all my invisible friends to oooo and ahhhh at. I wonder if Franco and friends will accept invisible dollars as payment? Now if we could just get the IRS to accept invisible dollars we’d be set!

I have to say, all kidding aside, having studied the Ideology vs Reality Continuum Theory there is a bit of fun behind all this and if they are raising money for a good cause then what’s the harm? However, I did not see anything that discussed a charity, perhaps its invisible too.

Harlan's Inspired...

The great thing about art is it inspires people. In fact, I have become inspired. I have just finished my hand at my first piece of invisible art. And, I’ve decided to offer it up for sale. Check it out!

Giant Statue of Obama

You are looking at an original piece of art by Harlan Colt. It is a statue designed to immortalize Barack Obama.

Time-Less Pick-Pocket

Pledge $20,000 or more
By Harlan Colt - Sculpture - Timeless Pick-Pocket-- a Statue of Liberty sized sculpture of Barack Obama with eight arms, each arm picking the pockets of several generations of middle class Americans ( re-classified as “the rich”) from Grandmother, down to great, great, great grandchildren, to redistribute their wealth among the less fortunate and to pay back the 8.6 Trillion dollars of national debt he created in just two short years in office. At his feet are life sized statues of thousands and thousands of people standing in unemployment lines hoping to find a job. If you look up at his rear pants pockets, you will see several local unions and Chicago-based NPO’s safely tucked away for next election. If you take the stairs to the top and look out you can watch the progress of the 25 federal agencies in Obama’s new White House Rural Council enacting UN Agenda 21 to dictate the use and production of every square inch of American farms and rural lands. If you look straight out you will see Nancy Pelosi flying several of her best friends around the world in her tax-payer funded private jet.

"I used real life for inspiration in creating this sculpture. I wanted to capture the President as realistically as possible for all future generations." - Harlan Colt

The detail and precision of this timeless piece is uncanny. Many painstaking hours by candlelight on multi-tiered scaffolding were spent bringing this work for your viewing pleasure. This one of a kind sculpture can be yours for only $20,000.

Silver, I think I had too much fun writing it.

I had several other ways I could have gone, but decided it would be too long to retain its value. Thanks for reading.

Motown, I've been working on a magazine lately and haven't had time to post any hubs, but when I saw this I decided it was too rich to pass up. I think my favorite part of this hub are the photos - which are copyrighted too! Can you imagine handing those to a judge in a copyright violation case? ha ha...

Will, I almost had to deny your post. It is excessive but its points are right on target! So I let it ride.

Whoa - Will left an invisible comment - I'm so impressed! Apparently, I'm just not talented enough for invisible writing. Darn.

You're in luck, with my highly artistic skills I picked it up pretty fast. I will be offering invisible lessons at my invisible art school opening tomorrow. Ol' Harlan will have you up to par in no time. It's a little tricky at first, but once ya get the hang of it, its all down hill from there. I'll trade you for some pole dancing lessons.

I adore this art. It takes up very little room on my walls, it is so easy to hang and I never have to dust it. Here's my check..... Up and very funny.

Hmmm - I may have a legal case here - several years ago I came up with a concept of Invisible Wish Trees - for some reason the idea wasn't very successful - but this seems like a blatant copy of my idea - perhaps I can get a multi-million dollar settlement - I'm sure they'll pay me in invisible money though!

A visible GENIUS! I think Franco is working on a Ph.D. Possible thesis - "How to sell the emperors clothes in a post, post-modern culture while everyone is watching and still make uber bucks"

Love your introduction and look forward to following your hubs.
