Born on March 29, 1981, Chastain is an American television and movie actress. She is a product of the famous The Juilliard School in New York City where she was an active participant in the school's drama department. She appeared on numerous school theatrical productions as well as on student film projects there.

She made her TV debut in 2004 when she appeared on the TV movie adaptation of Dark Shadows. And in 2008, she played the title role in a film called Jolene. Jolene was her film debut and for her performance in the movie, she was awarded the Seattle International Film Festival Award for Best Actress.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, Zero Dark Thirty is a movie about the mission by US special forces to capture and eliminate terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden. It stars Joel Edgerton, Nash Edgerton, mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez.

Lawless (2012)

Formerly known as The Wettest County, Lawless is a Western crime movie set in Franklin County, Virginia during the Depression era. The screenplay for the film which is written by Nick Cave is based on the book The Wettest County in the World, a novel by Matt Bondurant. Directed by John Hillcoat (The Road, The Proposition), Lawless stars Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and Mia Wasikowska.

Coriolanus (2011)

Coriolanus is a movie adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy of the same name. Besides being in the lead role, Ralph Fiennes also directed the film. The film is about a banished hero of Rome who swears allegiance with an enemy to exact revenge on the city. The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave, Brian Cox, John Kani, and James Nesbitt.

The movie earned a nomination at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival.

Take Shelter

This movie will be released come October 2011. The cast includes Michael Shannon, Katy Mixon, Kathy Baker, Shea Whigham, and Ray McKinnon.

The Debt

This movie will be released come August 2011. The cast includes Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren, Ciaran Hinds, Tom Wilkinson, and Marton Csokas.

The Tree of Life (2011)

This film by Terrence Malick won the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in France. The Palme d'Or is awarded to the best feature film among the official selection of films for competition. This is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and it is presented to the director of the feature film that won it.

"The Tree of Life" bested other 18 films in the competition that included films by renowned directors Lars von Trier and Spanish director Pedro Almodovar.

Besides Jessica Chastain, the movie also stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn.

Peter Bradshaw, film critic for The Guardian, gave the film five stars out of five, calling the film an "unashamedly epic reflection on love and loss".

Stolen (2010)

Directed by Anders Anderson, Stolen is a crime and mystery thriller that follows the story of a small town policeman as he tries to solve two crimes - his own son's disappearance eight years ago and the uncovering of a mummified corpse of a boy in a construction site.

Stolen also stars Jon Hamm, Josh Lucas, Rhona Mitra, Jimmy Bennet, James Van Der Beek, and Marcus Thomas.

The movie's title was renamed twice. First it was called The Boy in the Box then renamed to Stolen Lives then renamed to it's final title Stolen.

Jolene (2008)

This was Jessica Chastain's movie debut. Directed by Dan Ireland, Jolene is based on Jolene: A Life, a short story by E.L. Doctorow. Doctorow's short story itself was inspired by Jolene, a very popular song by country singer Dolly Parton.

The film was featured at the Seattle International Film Festival. Chastain went on to win the Best Actress award for her performance on the film.

The movie follows the life of Jolene as she finds love and loss beginning with her being a teen bride at age 16 up until later in her life where she gets involved with a rich psychopath.

Besides Jessica Chastain Jolene also stars Dermot Mulroney, Michael Vartan, Denise Richards, Chazz Palminteri, Rupert Friend, and Frances Fisher.
