Justin Bieber Gets Bashed for Anne Frank Comment
Pop star Justin Bieber is getting bashed for a comment he wrote in a guest book while visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. The comment angered some, but the Anne Frank House praised his visit. His comment reads, "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."
A belieber is the term used for all the teen girls who idolize him. Many people look at the belieber comment as self-centered. After all Anne Frank died in a Nazi concentration camp as a teenager in 1945 after years of living in hiding. Others were upset that people went to the Anne Frank House that day just to see Bieber. Over all, many agree with one commenter on the Anne Frank House Facebook page who said, "Justin really needs to check his ego."
While most of the media is bashing Bieber for his Anne Frank comment, the Anne Frank House said they were pleased to welcome Bieber and look at his visit as a positive. On their Facebook page, they posted a status update that reads, "The Anne Frank House was pleased to welcome Justin Bieber to the Anne Frank House last Friday. We think it is very positive that he took the time and effort to visit our museum. He was very interested in the story of Anne Frank and stayed for over an hour. We hope that his visit will inspire his fans to learn more about her life and hopefully read the diary."
Maybe the media needs to cut him some slack. How many 19-year-old popstars take time out of their schedule to visit places like the Anne Frank House? His music is a gift he shares with the world. In a way, it's like he was saying he hoped she would have liked his music.
Bieber is currently in the middle of a European tour. He made a point of visiting the Anne Frank House between concerts. Maybe instead of finding fault, we should all consider an excerpt from Anne Frank's diary. "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."
