Elisa Toffoli Dancing Video - Song Kelli Baker Audtioned With...

For those interested, Elisa Toffoli of Dancing, which is the music that Kelli Baker danced to in her audition for So You Think You Can Dance is releasing the CD titled - Dancing. Very cool for those of us that fell in love with this song from Elisa Toffoli. I watch the video of Kelli Baker's audition, not just for Kelli, but also to listen the this amazing son by Elisa - Dancing.

Elisa - Dancing YouTube Video - below...

I hope it is okay to brag a little bit. After all, this is a blog! LOL

The Kellie Baker, of both So You Think You Can Dance and High School Musical, the very successful teen movie - has commented on this very Hub! That is right. How cool is this? She is just so cute and sweet. Just as we would expect her to be.

I must thank miss Kelli Baker, for her kindness in stopping by and saying hello, and for taking the time to say "thank you" to all of her So You Think You Can Dance fans who have given her such wonderful kudos here:-)

Okay, enough bragging for now. But, do you blame me really?

Update: 6/5

I was not surprised when Robert Muraine was cut from the choreography this week on, So You Think You Can Dance. But, I was shocked that Kellie Baker was cut also. Yes, that is right -- Kelli Baker was cut from So You Think You Can Dance! We will not have the opportunity to see her perform weekly... very disappointing.

Kelli Baker did not make the top 20 -- although they invited Kelli to come back next year. The judges felt that Kelli needs to show who she is, in her dance, and not go inside herself so much while performing. They also mentioned that they had much discussion amongst themselves in coming to their final decision not to have Kelli Baker in the top 20. I would like to have known what really caused them to come to a decision to cut Kelli Baker? Her dancing was truly art and one must wonder what the judges wanted more from her? I imagine this cut, will be quite a blow to her and her mom...

Update: Poster Meg G, who is a good friend of Kelli Baker, has confirmed for us right here on this Hub (LOL) that yes, Kelli Baker is a Mormon. Thanks Meg:-)

Now, since I have been sucked into another one of these reality "talent" shows, and have done a Hub on Robert Muraine - of So You Think You Can Dance, I felt I had a duty to report on Kellie Baker who auditioned in Utah. (no Robert Muraine is not a Mormon) I know. I am a sucker! But I love good dancing as much as I love good music... so I am weak when it comes to shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "American idol".

Whether Kelli Baker is a Mormon or not, (and now we know that Kelli Baker is a Mormon) she will definitely be fun and interesting to follow. She is extremely talented. Let me tell you just a little bit about this cutie from Salt Lake City, Utah.... who is a Mormon too! Did I already confirm that? LOL

Anyway I think you will find this interesting...

Kelli Baker - So You Think You Can Dance - Audition Video

Who Did Kelly Baker Just Happen to Get Her Talent From?

Kelly Baker is the daughter of Bonnie Story. Who is Bonnie Story you ask? Well, she just happens to be an Emmy award winning choreographer for Disney's very popular movie, "High School Musical"!

During Kelly Baker's audition, she was asked quite a bit about her famous mother, Bonnie Story, who just happens to be very well-known choreograher in the field of dance. She too, is currently considered quite "hot"!

In a clip that you will see in the audition video, Kelly's mom Bonnie - eludes to the fact that she has to be quite hard on her own daughter Kelly - if she is going to considering giving her a job. Mom cannot play favorites and does not.

Kelly Baker feels that she needs to actually try much harder to prepare for an audition for her mom. She shared that when she is hired, she does not want anyone to say that the reason she got the job, is because her mom is the choreographer.

You can decide for yourself if you think her mom plays favorites with Kelli Baker, her daughter.

One more note... for those who are asking the Question, and apparently there are quite a few...

What song did Kelli Baker dance to in her audition video?

Answer: "Dancing" by Elisa Toffoli (source - the bloggernacle, of course... LOL - they were "wrong", but Lauren one of our posters right here - once again, has set us straight:-) thanks cutie --- I love you guys!

Also, thanks to another poster - we now know that Elisa Toffoli is releasing her CD Dancing. You guys rock:-)

I've put up the actual Elisa Toffoli video of her singing the song Dancing.

Elisa Toffoli - Dancing - YouTube Video

So You Think You Can Dance - What did the judges have to say about Kelli Baker?

Here are a few of the comments the judges on "So You Think You Can Dance" made about Kelly Baker's Audition. Which by the way, happened to be the last one, after a very long day of try-outs. (praphrased)

  • she gave the judges goose bumps. blew them away
  • best dancer they have seen this season
  • "...everyone in life has to find their own way and she just had a "WOW" moment for that judge!
  • best dancer she has seen this season, very emotional, beautiful.
  • they could just feel that dancing is in her blood, and that she loves to move... if she was not stopped she would have kept going....

At the conclusion of Kelli Baker's audition, she was asked by the judges, "If she gambles"?

Kelly Baker said, "No".

Judges responded by telling her that they "did" -- and that "they" were going to gamble on her!

After which, cutie patootie Kelli Baker, was enthusiastically given the desperately hope for - golden dream ticket to Las Vegas!

Not a shabby ending to a very long day - for everyone!

Then.. Kelly blasted through the audition room doors, back out into the lobby - she excitedly flashed that very coveted "ticket" at the cameras - and shouted that her "MOM" was going to be so proud of her!

No doubt, and rightfully so... Kelli Baker has earned her own way on this trip!

LdsNana-AskMormon Acknowledgements and Requests...

Hi Brittney -

I just don't know yet. I guess that my "modar" went up because she said she did not gamble and that she lived in SLC. Of course, that could be many many people living in SLC, who are not Mormon.

Also, the way she danced. This was the biggest thing for me...

It was done very artfully. A craft. A well developed skill. Nothing suggestive, lude or out of the box in any way. Kelli Baker had a deep love for dancing, which suggested to me personally - that in some way, her dancing was also very spiritual.

It was fine art, IMHO. I love the "Fine Art" of dancing. This is the state of movement at it's very best. JOY.

Kelli is actually a very good friend of mine here in Salt Lake. She blows my mind every time I see her dance. She is a beautiful and extremely talented dancer... and yes, we are both members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Meg M -

Thank you so much for confirming for me, that yes -- Kelli Baker is most certainly a Mormon. I guess my "modar" is working just fine. LOL

I agree, she is both beautiful and extremely talented. But what I felt coming through her dance so strong, was her lovely spirit - and that is what "modar" is to me:-)

I felt her, as she danced - and it was amazing. I am so thrilled that I was able to focus in on Kelli and was compelled to follow her on "So You Think You Can Dance". You will find, that the majority of what I do here on hubpages, is write about Mormonism.

Choosing to write on something like this, is a bit out of the box of what i do as LdsNana-AskMormon. But, it is just so fun:-) I just could not resist to put her before my readers and allow them to see - what I consider to be, pure poetry!

Meg - I hope that you will keep in touch with us here during the competition. You can email me also. That would be great.

Give Kelli, LdsNana-AskMormon's love and best wishes. Let her know, that anytime she would like to come and say hi - she is certainly most welcome. We will post a review and video weekly throughout the competition.

Go Kelli!

Thank you again Meg, for confirming for all of us, that both you and Kelli are awesome LDS gals:-)

Hi Tony,

I'm with you! Kelli is a true dancer. Much of what I have seen thus far, has been enjoyable and entertaining - but Kelli is artful. Her style of dance is classic and should always be considered the "best" of the art of dance.

Her dance in that video didn't seem to match the music as well as I thought it would... Was that just me? She was really good; the music was just a little too slow for the dance. I thought.

Hi Whitney -

I think I know what you mean. I switched You-Tube feeds, just in case.

But, Kelli Baker is considered a "contemporary" style dancer. Often times, unless you are fully engaged when watching, this style of dance may not look right to the viewer. Watch it again, relax... and let me know if this is any better?

I was very surprised that Kelli did not make the top 20. She is a beautiful dancer and a truly enjoyed seeing her perform. The only reason that comes to mind as to why she did not make the top 20 is that she was considered "too popular" because of her role on High School Musical and that people would vote for her based on that role instead of her talents. I just thought she was awesome. I look forward to seeing her dance again. Thanks for putting a smile on my face Kelli!

Hi Kelli -

You deserve all the wonderful comments that have been made about you and your dancing. I am just so happy to have come to know you. You are an exquisite artist and it has been a privilege to make this video of you available to my readers.

As I stated in this blog, I was touched by the spirit with which you dance. As the judges mentioned, you are inside yourself when you dance. I understand this to mean that you truly are a dancer and not necessarily an "exhibitionist". You seem to dance for the beauty and joy of the art versus to draw attention to yourself. This is why I see the way in which you dance as poetry and fine art... This is why you are a joy to behold when you dance. You are an expression of all that is good in this world.

I really hope that you try-out again next year. America deserves to see more of this side of Kelli Baker!

Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. What a treat:-)

Univited Writer and wallaceml -

I too was disappointed to find that Kelli did not make the top 20. Certainly it was not because she was not good enough. Nothing could be further from the truth. As the judges told Kelli, they had much discussion in coming to their final conclusion not to put her in the top 20... Her skill was never in question.

They never really gave a legitimate reason, other than they "discussed" it a lot. We can only speculate as to what their reasons for not putting her there? Popularity established is a good thought. Perhaps they felt that they were giving dancers their big break and Kelli has had hers? I don't know... I just know that I personally feel cheated. LOL I have seen the other dancer -- and none of them have the gift of dance, as Kelli does, IMHO.

Nana,

Wow, I didn't even realize Kelli Baker was a Utah Mormon...although I should have guessed from the hair. lol J/K It is surprising to me that she would have been cut from the show, especially after knowing she must have received extensive training as Bonnie Story's daughter. Perhaps the competition is just so steep this year, what do you think?

Hi Steph -

Yes, very cool. I do believe that there may be two other dancers that are Mormon. I may spotlight one of them here as well. I need to do a bit more research, but I know there is one really nice young man who made the top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance, and is a Mormon.

I 'think' one other girl that made the top 20 SYTYCD is also a Mormon? Perhaps my readers can help out on this. They are awesome with helping verify information.

High School Musical, I believe has been popular because of this major factor. Again, I hope Kelli Baker will be dancing her heart away in the next movie...

With all of Kellie Baker's new fans from So You Think You Can Dance, they would be crazy not to have her dancing again. Perhaps she could act and dance in the future?

I loved to watch Kelli Baker's performance! She is so young and so very talented. It is easy to watch and to comment from from my comfortable armchair, but to achieve something so artistic and 'ultra sporty' in real life? Well, that needs a total determination and very, very hard and constant work. And a talent, of course. Thank you for this hub!

LdsNana-AskMormon profile image

LdsNana-AskMormon 8 years ago from Southern California Author

Doghouse -

Although the competition for So You Think You Can Dance is quite tough for season 4, I personally feel certain that Kelli Baker's skills as a dancer, were never in question at anytime. Whether is was her audition or the choreography heats, Kelli Baker was simply flawless.

As I said in my Hub, we can only speculate as to why the judges made this decision to cut Kelli Baker at this point and keep her out of the Top 20 SYTYCD competitors. Perhaps if she had been able to compete... the element of competition between the dancers would not have been there?

That is how good of a dancer I think Kelli Baker is... and not because she is a Mormon. I would not have featured Kelli Baker for any other reason... That she happens to be a Mormon, is just cool, for Mormons. LOL

She is a rose, and roses do not need to compete. This may have had much to do with why Kelli Baker was not asked to join the Top 20 this year. All others may have just wilted in comparison...

This is hard work and talent, working like a symphony as it is made manifest in her beautiful ability to convey her fine art to the world. What appears as free and easy, is meticulous commitment and hard work, to the craftsmanship of her dancing.

Hi drummer boy -

How kind. I guess I just have fun doing a few Hubs like this one, that I have done on Kelli Baker. So You Think You Can Dance is one of the few shows left on television that for the most part, a family can sit down, watch together and have great fun doing so.

I enjoy highlighting those things that bring us all together. Those parts of our life that we can all enjoy and appreciate together. In this diverse world, often times - that which is beautiful is the only thing that can really accomplish such. No words, just an experience.

Kelli Baker's dancing on So You Think You Can Dance, is a display of talent that most all would find beautiful. I like that we can all see and experience these kinds of things together.

When I saw Kelli dance - I suppose something inside of me just knew that all of you would think the same things that I thought... which, was this is stunningly beautiful.

Hi LDSNana, long time no talk! Wow! Somehow I knew after the hubs with Brooke White and David Archuleta on Idol you'd be back with SYTYCD, and I really enjoyed reading all the comments on here ... for the record, Kelli Baker was at the very top of my list and I was STUNNED that she didn't make the top 20. But you are mostly right here... a show like So You Think You Can Dance, really does and can make dreams come true for those who would not otherwise get such an opportunity to be discovered.

In regards to Kelli Baker, she was already discovered as a dancer prior to SYTYCD - as her mom is Bonnie Story of High School Musical. Kelli Baker, as a dancer, has already made it to the big screen. I think that this is perhaps the reason that Kelli Baker was not invited into the top twenty on So You Think You Can Dance.

bobby ffoulkes -

The music that Kelly Baker used for the audition on SYTYCD, that we hear in the video posted here - is Alisa Toffoli's "Dancing". You are welcome to compare the two videos posted here - Kelly Baker's audition song is the same as sung by Elisa Toffoli.

I am confused at your question?

Kelli is my aunts' cousin!! It is true, here I can prove it! Kelli Baker has a cousin named Taryn Nelson. Taryn is my aunt. Taryn's mom lives in Silina-(or however you spell it) When I got home and watched SYTYCD I just about screamed!! I was like "Mom! It is KELLI!!!" But I have another aunt named Kelly so I had to add, "TARYN'S COUSIN!! THE ONE FROM HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL!!" I was happy. Even though I haven't met her, I probibly will very soon. But while I am away...GO KELLI!!
