Music, the Great Motivator
Beatles
Long and Winding Roads
I once believed that everything you need to know in life can be found in one Beatle’s song or another. Although it appears as fact, it is more likely due to the many great songs they have written over the years which chronicle their many experiences.
However, one thing is true. Just like the evolution of Beatle’s songs, we too live and learn by what we are exposed to in our daily lives. What we think is important as a young person seems to fade as we grow older. Perhaps those “must have” items are really not that important anymore. What we seem to want more than material objects is a sense of belonging or purpose. Like the songs stays, “all you need is love”.
What we wanted at age 20 is not necessarily what we needed. Conversely, what we needed is maybe not what we wanted. Many people over the age of 40 may agree. But why? Is it that we may have matured? Maybe the reason is that our value system has changed? Perhaps our lives are like a long and winding road.
Whatever the reason, most would agree that we each have our own unique sense of worth. Does society dictate whether or not our individual values are legitimate? I would say yes. That does not mean we do not have our own free will.
I like to think that we each create our own destiny. No matter what our background is, or our friends say or what our religion teaches, in the end I believe we create our own heaven or hell.
