The Musical Score for Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg's Kon Tiki

The score for the feature film Kon Tiki was composed by Swedish composer Johan Soderqvist. According to a post that Soderqvist made on his Sound Cloud account, the score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, a popular recording studio in Westminster, London, England. Some of the world's most well-known artists have recorded tracks in the studio. These artists include The Beatles, The Hollies, Pink Floyd and Badfinger.

Who is Johan Soderqvist?

Johan Soderqvist was born in 1966 in Stockholm. He studied composition and arranging at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He started out in his career as a keyboard player in various jazz bands and folk music groups. He toured all over the world with these bands and groups. Later on, he started to focus his activities on writing and composing music for film, radio, television and theatre. He wrote his very first film score in 1991 for the movie Agnes Cecilia. Soderqvist is known for collaborating with director Susanne Bier several times. The two worked together on several movies including In a Better World, Things We Lost in the Fire, After the Wedding, Brothers, Like It Never Was Before, Taxi Till Portugal, and Brevet Till Jonas.

Soderqvist's other film credits are Painless, Love Is All You Need, The Road, King of Devil's Island, Limbo, Earth Made of Glass, Love and Rage, The Murder Farm, Troubled Water, When a Man Comes Home, and Walk The Talk.

About Kon Tiki the Movie

Directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, Kon Tiki is a historical drama about the famous expedition in 1947 of Norwegian writer and explorer Thor Heyerdhal. Starring as Heyerdhal in the film is Pal Sverre Valheim Hagen. Joining him in the cast are Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Gustaf Skarsgard, Odd-Magnus Williamson, Tobias Santelmann, Agnes Kittelsen, Richard Trinder, Stefan Cronwall, Jakob Oftebro, Manuel Cauchi, Katinka Egres, and Eleanor Burke.

  1. Kon Tiki was the highest-grossing movie in Norway for the year 2012. The film grossed over fourteen million dollars at the box office.
  2. The film is also considered as the most expensive Norwegian production in the country's cinema history.
  3. The film was nominated at the 85th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language FIlm category. Its fellow nominees were Amour, No, A Royal Affair, and War Witch. Austria's Amour took home the award.
  4. It was also nominated at the 70th Golden Globe Awards. Again, it lost to Amour.
  5. Kon Tiki was the first Norwegian movie to ever get nominations from the Oscars and Golden Globes.
  6. Filming of the film took the crew three and a half months. Filming locations include Norway, Bulgaria, United States, Maldives, Malta, Thailand and Sweden.
