The American Idol Season 8 Finale Kicked Off With A Bang

The beginning of The American Idol Season 8 Finale started out the same as every year with a look at the massive crowds in each finalists hometown. Kris Allen was overwhelmed by the crowd in his hometown of Conway, Arkansas while Adam had a huge applause waiting for him in San Diego, California.

The first performance of the night was The Season 8 Top (13) Performing "So What" By Pink. They wore all white and did an exceptional job together as a group. Next was David Cook with a touching performance of his new single "Light On" which is a dedication to his brother who recently died of cancer. He of course received a standing ovation while also announcing that the song is available on Itunes for proceeds to go to Cancer research.

The season finale also had a few funny surprises with there "Golden Idol Awards" skits throughout the show including a performance by Nick Mitchell singing "No Way" By Jennifer Holiday and a recap of the worst male singers to audition this year. Nick wore his usual shimmery sequence shirt with shorts and gave a funny and crazy performance full of laughs.

The first duet of the night went to Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah singing Queen’s new single, “Cue the Rain,” where I feel that they could have did better and I honestly did not like Queen Latifah's outfit but overall the performance was pretty decent.

The next Top (13) performance was "I'm Yours" which was performed with Jason Miraz himself. It was very nice but a little unorganized with some of the Top (13) not being able to be seen on camera while performing. After a quick recap of Kris Allen's journey on Idol he also performed a duet with the legendary Keith Urban singing "Kiss A Girl".

The Ladies of the Top (13) than performed "Glamorous" By Fergie before Fergie herself surprised the crowd with a revealing but very cute retro black outfit and stiletto's. She sang "Big Girls Don't Cry" followed by a performance with her group The Black Eyed Peas singing "Boom Boom". The performance was the best for me of the night because they really bought the energy to the show and Fergie looked amazing. Also the ladies did an excellent job with their performance and they looked like a 2009 Spice Girl's Group.

The American Idol Season 8 Finale Funny Skits

Idol continued with the funny skits again but this time it was "Bikini Girl" who got tricked. She then comes out on stage live, busting out of her bikini of course, as Randy Jackson gives her a standing ovation while Ryan seems to notice the other assets that have been added since the idol auditions. She then starts to sing a terrible rendition of "Vision of Love" By Mariah Carey and was rudely interrupted by Kara DioGuardi singing the same song and blowing her out of the water. Kara then showed her who was really "Bikini Girl" by stripping off her button down black dress and revealing a black bikini. She took the show for that and received a standing ovation as well.

Some Of The Greatest Perform At The American Idol Season 8 Finale Concert

Halfway into the Finale, Allison Iraheta and Cyndi Lauper performed a beautiful duet of Lauper's hit, "Time After Time" followed by an interview with the Allen and Lambert families.

Danny Gokey also gave an amazing performance of Lionel Richie's "Hello" while helping bring the audience too it's feet when Lionel Richie appeared and they performed "All Night Long". The show continued with a look back at Adam's journey on the show and he also lit up the stage with a performance with the Rock Group KISS. They sang "Rock And Roll All Night" and it was a great calabo. Adam could have been a long lost member of the group because it sounded great with him there. I just hated the tongue thing but in all it was entertaining. Carlos Santana also graced the stage with help from the top (13) singing "Forget About It".

The Idol surprises just kept coming with a surprise for Adam and Kris. They were both given keys to their very own Ford Fusion Hybrid Vehicles. Megan and Michael also did a duet with instrumental help from Steve Martin himself. The men of the top (13) also gave a good performance of "If You Want My Body" By Rod Stewart and they looked very sexy overall with the all black suits they wore. Also the night was not complete without a staggering performance from Rod Stewart singing "Maggie May." At times he looked drunk and his voice is not the same but he still had the crowd jumping.

In the end Kris and Adam came out for one of the final performance's of the night with a duet with Queen singing "We Are The Champions" that was appropriately a highlight of the night. They performed well together and I would love to see a duet on one of their albums when they come out. When the winner was announced, Kris' eye were so big and he was completely shocked. All he could say was thank you to the fans because he was not prepared for the end result. The show closed with Kris singing "No Boundaries" for the final time on the Idol stage.

Overall I would give this years season finale a thumbs up because it was highly entertaining I must say. Can't wait for next year, they never cease to amaze us. idol fanatics.
