Ponderings: On Love

Project Good Words
Project Good Words | Source

My Inspiration

In 2014, Jo_Goldsmith11 took it upon herself to initiate the Light2Love Project Good Words.

Jo pledged to use good words and publish articles used to empower, encourage, support and defend those who need to be shown love.

Jo offered us a good word for each week to focus our thoughts, behaviors and actions on...In the 1st week, Jo wrote her perspective on the word love.

However, as 2014 came to an end, Jo filed away her Good Word articles - as she begins the process of publishing it in e-book'. Shyron E. Shenko continues to write a beautiful poem to accompany each Good Word to inspire and lead us.

The ripple effect of the Good Words Project throughout the HubVille community has been heartwarming.

Please join me with some of my musical thoughts and reflections on the word love...

Love in Music

I understood music well before I understood love.

As a child of the 1960s, my home was filled with the London Beat and the British Invasion. I teethed on The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand.

With a Georgia peach of a Momma, I know my fair share of Country Music and the Nashville Sound as we listened to The Grand Ole Opry and watched Hee Haw on television each week.

My Pop was a Railroad Conductor so I guess that explains my affinity for Soul Train...tunes such as Motown and R & B and Soul -- come to think of it, I still understand music more than I understand love...!

I can be anywhere, thinking of a person with love and a song will pop into my mind. This can include funerals, hospitals, weddings, all kinds of places. Some people I love have an actual song that I associate with them. They may / may not be aware of what that song is...!

Sometimes lyrics fly through my mind and it helps me just get centered...instead of, oh, perhaps inserting my foot in my mouth... :)

How about you? Are there any songs or lyrics that scream out LOVE to you...like these do to me? If so, please share YOURS in the comment section below... thanks, mar!

Love in Lyrics

I'm young, I know, but even so - I know a thing or two - And I learned from you (1) ... I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable - I'm not trying to make you anything at all - But this feeling doesn't come along everyday - And you shouldn't blow the chance - When you've got the chance to say (2) ... Once on a high and windy hill - In the morning mist - Two lovers kissed - And the world stood still - Then your fingers touched - My silent heart and taught it how to sing (3) ... Here, making each day of the year - Changing my life with a wave of her hand - Nobody can deny that there's something there (4)

The Beatles: "Here, There and Everywhere"

Lyrical Love

Believe me you really don't have to worry - I only want to make you happy (5) ... Bright are the stars that shine - Dark is the sky - I know this love of mine - Will never die - And I love her (6) ...

The Beatles: "And I Love Her"

Lyrics of Love

You gave me wings and made me fly - You touched my hand I could touch the sky - I lost my faith, you gave it back to me - You said no star was out of reach - You stood by me and I stood tall (7) ... If you wanted the moon - I would try to make a star - But I, would rather you let me give my heart (8) ... Whenever I'm alone with you - You make me feel like I am home again - Whenever I'm alone with you - You make me feel like I am whole again (9) ... Ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream, - The notes were turning blue when I fell into a dream - As the music played I saw my life turn around - That was the day before (10) ... Sometimes I stare into space - Tears all over my face - I can't explain it - Don't understand it - I hadn't ever felt like this before - Now that funny feeling has me amazed - Don't know what to do - My head's in a haze (11) ... I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows - If I fail, if I succeed - At least I'll live as I believe - No matter what they take from me - They can't take away my dignity (12) ...You're asking me will my love grow - I don't know, I don't know - You stick around now it may show - I don't know, I don't know (13) ...

The Beatles: "Something"

Artist - Song - Words of Love

Nazareth - Love Hurts (1); Olivia Newton John - I Honestly Love You (2); The Four Aces - Love Is A Many Splendored Thing (3); Beatles - Here, There And Everywhere (4); The Partridge Family - I Think I Love You (5); Beatles - And I Love Her (6); Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me (7); Lulu - To Sir With Love (8); The Cure - Lovesong (9); Beatles - Something (10); B. B. King - When Love Came To Town (11); Martha & The Vandellas - Heat Wave (12); Whitney Houston - Greatest Love of All (13)

I'm Calling Martie Out

Source

Speaking of Love...

Let's keep Project Good Words going... what do you say?

For my part, I'm going to keep going with my musical reflections. The way Jo and Shyron have been working steadily at their inspirations and poetry, I'd say I have my work cut out for me!

Fortunately for me, I love to challenge myself and I have some time between classes this summer so the timing is perfect!

And at the end of each of my musical reviews, I'm going to pass the Project Good Words baton to a dear friend in the Hubber community who emulates the Word of the day.

It should be no surprise that when I think of Love, my mind rushes to my soul mate, South African cyber-Sista, Martie Coetser.

Thanks for agreeing to accept the baton... I hope everyone has a chance to check out your fabulous hub as well.

What a wonderful gift. Mar posted a Hub. And a music centric Hub, who could have guessed? It is so good to see you, your support of Jo_Goldsmith11 and S Shyron E Shenko is praiseworthy. The cause behind the project is important on a very human scale. This kind of reminds me of Lilies of the Field, perhaps when we are done we will have built a chapel.

Oh – song lyrics ‘the love she waited for, wouldn’t you know it, she wouldn’t show it…..’

Hey Maria......"Music," truly is the Universal language......and makes the world go round....connecting hearts, creating rainbows and wiping away tears...giving us strength and soothes our pain....

"To dream the impossible dream, to fight the unbeatable foe.... To try when your arms are too weary....to reach the unreachable star....This my quest, to follow that star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far....to fight for the right without question or pause....to be willing to march into Hell for a Heavenly cause....and I know, if I'll only be true to this glorious quest....that my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest. And the world will be better for this, that one soul, scorned and covered with scars, still strove with her last ounce of courage.....To reach the unreachable star.

Peace, GF...........Love you, Paula

You had me from ' the get go ' Every lyric ran through my head as i read your selections. Wonderful music. Beautiful words, what could be better? I'm excited that you're adding to this good words project with music. A world without music would be so dull. Waiting for Martie's response. Love you, Ruby.

Wow, a challenge! How I LOVE to be challenged.

Oh, Mar, you have pulled some wonderful memories of love with titles and lyrics of songs in this hub of yours. Thanks for giving me the baton. Give me a day or three, and then see me run with it.

I am so happy to have you as my soul mate sista online, and how privileged we are to have the most wonderful and adorable brothers and sisters. Without any doubts we are a perfect happy family. Maybe we should invite all who are NOT sure if they are one of we/us to give us a sign, so we can send them a song of love..... just to confirm that they are part of the family.

And guess what song came to mind?

"Consider yourself....."

Lots of hugs to you, Mar, and to all our 'siblings' online.....

Oh, that is so amazing that Jo's mother said the exact thing my precious and sweet mother told us growing up about not saying anything at all if we do not have anything nice to say! She has, indeed, started a wonderful endeavor with her Light2Love project.

Oh, wow, Maria, I believe we are "sistas" as I was a child of the 60s too and grew up listening to all of the same music you did and do, plus I grew up in Georgia ... how sweet ... as a Georgia peach LOL ... I could not wait to watch the Ed Sullivan Show, American Band Stand and Soul Train! Thankfully, my dad loved all kinds of music from rock to Motown to country, and we watch The Grand Ole Opry too.

I cannot even imagine a world without music, and I believe we grew up during the best time for music, but I may be biased. LOL Music has always been a huge part of my life, especially growing up as it made everything alright.

When I read your wonderful musical challenge, the song that came to my mind ... "We Are Family" I got all my sisters with me

We are family - Get up everybody and sing - Everyone can see we're together - As we walk on by - And we fly just like birds of a feather - I'm not telling no lie - All of the people around us to say - Can we be that close - Just let me state for the record - We're giving LOVE in a family dose, yeah -

I know cyber-sista, Martie, is full of love and loves you dearly.

(((Hugs))) and much love to all

Good Morning, dear friends!

Bill, thanks for always being so faithful and supportive - you are such a dear friend.

Vicki, thanks for the amazing musical link you sent me - it's addictive! I'm also looking forward to reading Martie's post on 'love'.

Mike, you offer some of the most beautiful comments, this being no exception. Being an impressionable gal, I am reaching for Bread (cd, silly...) and then yes, some Sidney would be a nostalgic way to spend the afternoon. Thanks for sharing lyrics...hmmmm...

Paula, your response makes me giddy with excitement...you know I'll be in touch...

Ruby, I tried to keep my promise to you and darling, I will be in touch with you as well...!

A huge big ole THANK YOU to Martie for agreeing to take the LOVE baton...! I know you will do a beautiful job as only you can...take your time! I already 'love' your comment and your song lyrics...!

Faith, Paula uses an expression...SFAM (Sistas From Another Mother) and that is what we all are... Miss Sammie said the same thang that Jo's Mom and your Momma said. She was also from GA as you know! SO happy you are back fro your busy and happy days with family and thanks for this amazing comment!

Vellur, I agree with you - so great to see you!

Pamela, thanks for your wonderful feedback and for sharing too.

Have a great day everyone - listen to your favorite music! Hugs, Maria

To give credit where credit is due:.....I was introduced to" SFAM" by none other than my SFAM, Linda Sue. I appreciate the acronym since women do tend to embrace other really good female friends as family. In my case, I do so very selectively due to the fact that ANY one who can slide into a position exclusively held by my only sister & closest friend....is one HELL of a human being......

Well, slap my a$$ if I haven't gained myself a whole damned cluster of SFAMS here at HP!! As Pharrell sings......"I'm HAPPY!"

Dear Maria,

Simply beautiful. The world can never get enough of beautiful love songs, loving words and poetry.

One of the things I loved most about the Beatles was their love songs.

Voting this up across the board except for funny.

Sending You Love & Hugs,

Gail

I'm a love song sort of guy and write my own music. Little known by most. Maria you know my penchant to include music in my more soulful articles. I'll think about this some more.

Maria, I love your song choices. I learned to love music long before I learned to love as well. I don't think I really knew love until I had my son. Of course, there's love for parents and siblings, but there was a lot of animosity on my part during my growing up years. Divorce, re-marriage, new sibling, moves, never knowing what it's like to have life-long friendships, etc.

I equate music with times in my life and certain people that have made a lasting effect in my heart. As far as songs reminding me of love? I think I lack there. It's more like what could have been.

I love your take on the baton you accepted. Martie is the perfect choice to pass it on to.

You're a doll and I love you lots.

You said your friends bring songs to mind. Please email me with what song I bring to mind. Unless, of course, I won't be embarrassed by the correlation - then feel free to post it here.

Love to you my sweet friend,

SS

Good Evening, Ya'll,

Paula, You are checking over my notes...as Linda Sue, you 'and' Pharrell will all be featured in upcoming hubs...only you don't realize it yet!

Gail, We totally agree about The Beatles. I am fairly sure these three songs came from their album called Love Songs! Thanks for your beautiful remarks.

Jim, I know you have soulful taste in music, as I have loved the tunes you have shared with me. Feel free to hop back to this or any of my upcoming musical hubs to offer your 'croakals'!

Sha Sha, I love the honesty and depth of your comment. I easily have a song that comes to mind about you and I just heard it. I was driving to see Gail and I had a hankering to hear "The Best of Chicago"... I'm grooving along and all the sudden .........."Color My World" came on and I got all teary (yeah, on the freeway...) and I thought immediately of YOU and your rose colored glasses. And yeah, I was rocking it....with windows down...so, my dear if I embarrassed anyone, it would be ME...!

Jackie, Great to see you...oh yes, I also connect songs to events. I am starting to think music has way too much influence in my life (LOL)! Thanks so much for stopping by...

Hoping you all have a peaceful evening. Hugs, Maria

Oh, Maria. I was so in tune with this hub! I, too, grew up with music; it is part of the fiber of my being – like love. When I write, I often write to music, or with a melody or phrase whispering within. “The girl can’t help it.” :-)

What a stunning article and inspirational challenge; I agree with Bill; passing the baton to Martie is the perfect choice. Voted way up, shared and more.

I'm not surprised to hear this, dear Sha... :))

Genna, "It is part of the fiber of my being - like love"... Yes, you have described music perfectly. I am listening to Martie's response hub...I have been off and on, she has included TWO solid hours of Love songs of the 1980s...absolutely awesome!

Hoping you both have a peaceful night. Love, Maria

Maria - I LOVE this project and your hub is wonderful! I came here from Genna's hub on passing the baton, in order to trace its origins. I wrote a lengthy comment there explaining why I'm less active online right now, so I won't explain it again.

How true - associating people I love with special music that was 'ours' or was mine when the persons were much a part of my life. Many of my loves are no longer living, but when I hear those songs, - they spring alive. Many songs come to mind and to heart when I think of my George. He adored music, played favorites on his harmonica and in his last few years, made lists of those favorites so he couldn’t forget them He was born in 1922, so his heart was with the songs of the 30s and 40s, but when I hear one he always paused whenever he heard and said he loved it: Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You”, I’m filled with the immediacy of the way he loved, unconditionally, not by appointment or special occasion, but with just plain, abiding, deep-felt LOVE. That was what he loved about the message of that song.

Oh dear Theresa, I admit I read your comment and was immediately distracted at the swirling of activity that has been going on around my house by the name of Andy Jordan! And thanks to the lovely Nellieanna, I can properly thank you for stopping back with your sweet remarks.

And Nellieanna, I just came from Genna's hub...the nurse in me is screaming...oh gosh, please watch the length of your comments but thank you ever so much for letting us all know what has been going on. Believe me, girlfriend, you are REAL and always will be to those of us who LOVE you...and lady, there are a whole bunch of us in this community alone who fit that category... so please rest up, read away and know that we are all here waiting for whenever you are able to publish some poetry for us. In the meantime, sending positive energy, hugs and all the love you can manage!!

Have a happy and peaceful Friday to two of my favorite ladies...glad you have met up with each other as well as you are "two peas in a pod" to me! Love you both, Maria

Maria - responding to all this Love project comprises the most actual writing I've done, well, since this miserable CTS struck several weeks ago. I've been to the ranch and had to do some computer stuff connected with the ranch which amply showed me what I can't do successfully, i.e.: without painful consequences. But it feels so good to do a bit more than I should for the sake of my heart and soul!

Yes, I will have to hold off, for sure, though. But it's with a nice glow. Thank you and hugs back. (my arms are not affected by the ghastly thing, nor is my heart! haha)
