what follows are the lyrics for the song: Love is

Love is ---(what you want it to be)

Hard to get
Impossible to hold
Straight and narrow
Like a burning fuse
In a long cold dawn
By the side of the road
A hopeless case
A perfect thing

Love is
What you want it to be
Love is
Heaven to the lonely
Show me
What you want me to do
Cause love is
What I got for you

I close my eyes
Search the stars
Call for help
Wake up cold
You're in my system
Under my skin
Raw emotion
Please don't go

Love is
What you want it to be
Love is
Heaven to the lonely
Show me
What you want me to do
Cause love is
What I got for you

Can't live on promises
Won't sleep with lies
Don't understand the things you say
Till I read them in your eyes
Got to run on instinct
Got to go by feel
Got to trust my senses
Know it is for real
Can't live on promises
Won't sleep at night
Don't understand the things you say
Till I read them in your eyes
Got to run on instinct
Got to go by feel
Got to trust my senses

Love is
What you want it to be
Love is
Heaven to the lonely
Show me
What you want me to do
Cause love is
What I got for you

Love is
Love is
Show me

Alannah kicking it ~literally

Song- Instead of a Kiss (for those of You who Ache... Who Long for Nights, like this)

In 1989 Alannah Myles was set to Rocket into Orbit, joining the SuperStars of that day. The song "Black Velvet" Led the way- with global recognition

Her global recognition was assured. Her talent unquestioned. Madonna did not do as well, nor as quickly by comparison. Please understand, that Alannah, was much larger than Madonna potentially... in the late 80's and early 90's. But then her feet were chopped out from under her. - Read on.

Canadian singer Alannah Myles released her first album, simply titled "Alannah Myles", in 1989. The album was a huge success and became the biggest-selling debut album ever in Canada,

And it went... Diamond

This was unheard of.

It was also very successful worldwide, thanks to the classic single "Black Velvet" (a tribute to Elvis Presley), which entered the billboard charts at #1. Alannah also received a grammy for "Best Rock Female Vocal Performance", and she toured with artists like Robert Plant and Tina Turner. The album "Rockinghorse" was released in 1992, which was followed by her third album "A Lan Nah" in 1995. She also recorded a duet with Italian singer Zucchero, "What Are We Waiting For", which was featured in the movie "Prince Valiant". In 1998 Alannah released "Arival", an album which by many is considered "her best album yet". The compilation album "The very best of Alannah Myles" was released in 1999.

Alannah Myles truly is phenomenal. In 1989 and 1990, she moved as if shot out of a cannon. With her talent and arsenal of produced and in-production songs, she was (set to, and capable of) taking the music industry by storm. She ranked exactly equal to the greatest of the day and was joining them. Her positioning was not in doubt. She was out and about, roaring on stages, singing, dancing and kicking up a storm. She drove her small-boned and delicate frame mercilessly. You could literally see and feel the truth of the passionate heart that beat within the breast of this Artist. Alannah's heart was the passionate seat and source of the moving music she created. Whether it was her extremely lively performance of "Still Got this Thing for You", or the heart-felt "Song Instead of a Kiss"... what made this music so effective hit, after hit after hit, was the heart that fired the creative process behind it all.

It was as if she fired one shot after another from a rifle. She'd chamber round after round, firing ceaselessly. "Lover of Mine, Tumble Weed, Lightning in a Bottle, Dark Side of Me, Our World Our Times". And many many more.

When one album had been produced. She had notebooks of songs yet to be made, album after album. Alannah, is still this way- still writing endlessly. She produced an album independently in 2009 called "Black Velvet". In Black Velvet, she exercises her vocal ability and puts out sounds that go from the mature and sensual "Comment Ca Va" (a viable Club-Sound), to loving and sweet "Only Wings" then, to channeling the voice and spirit of some little old black lady from the deep south in the song "Trouble" which was performed with an actual jug-band. Here, "Trouble" is a hint of her next album which will be blues. "A Work in Blue".

If you compare her sound in the 2009 album "Black Velvet", a song such as " I Love You ", from that album, is sweet, loving and maiden-like. It is a gentle Love Ballad. By comparison with her more rowdy style in her 1989 Album "Alannah Myles", where the songs "KickStart my Heart" and "Still Got This Thing for You" kick major bee-hind in a Country-Rock style. That's the "Leather" that goes with Alannah's "Lace".

Allow me to say again here, because I do not think people have heard me. The song "Comment Ca Va" belongs on dance floors now! I honestly think that people everywhere should have taken this one and run with it waving Alannah Myles flag. It's a very good club song. It deserves to be professionally remixed and pumped out in NYC and in every major city in the U.S. and Canada. Don't doubt me. Listen to it! Mix it, and Grind to it! I am serious. It's a fun tune.

Now, please ask yourself, assuming you are somewhat analytical about this: What can bring a talent like this to a halt? From being a completely and globally successful sky-rocketing career in the limelight, to a "career" uncomfortably close to obscurity? I suppose it's possible she got a "headache" and needed to take a break, from all that fame and "fortune" ...right? And, by the way, she actually made no fortune... don't ask. Just read on, and think, look a few things up online about this also. But, how can someone "sell" 9 million records, or cd's, and make no fortune? There are interviews of Alannah, out there on the web, that's all I will say. There's drama here- stories untold. And, it's up to her, if she wants to tell us. But I do encourage you to simply look, listen and check her out. Maybe join her facebook. (facebook.com / AlannahMyles) But "listen", both with your heart AND your ears.

" ONE HIT WONDER "... a massive misnomer

Sometimes she is ridiculously referred to as a "One Hit Wonder". This is a massive misnomer based upon a couple of unfortunate song-release coincidences, combined with deliberate misrepresentation and non-support within the commercial music industry. Here and now I will absolutely not touch that statement in any great detail. It is not to be debated here. Debate it elsewhere if you wish, I am merely presenting the basic outline of "what happened".

Go, see for yourself. Investigate, read, and listen to the interviews.

Go, find her on Reverbnation to sample her music if you'd like. If you like Rock and Country, you'll LOVE her. So I do recommend a visit to her web pages or music sites. She's phenomenally talented, and despite any of my own personal bias in her favor, I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone deny her voice.

Then do her the honor of buying some albums. That's 'albums' with a "zzz" at the end. That's plural, folks. And, that ain't a "one-hit-wonder", not hardly. Despite the best efforts of certain powers-that-be to ruin her day. She's still making music. She was standing next to Robert Plant and Tina Turner singing. C'mon... Think about this. "Can You Hear Me Now? Good."

If I may have your attention for the following?

Let's compare a couple of songs here. I just want to show you some stuff from Pat Benatar and Joan Jett alongside Alannah Myles. Bear with me.

Pat Benatar: We Belong

Alannah Myles: Who Loves You?

Pat Benatar: Heartbreaker (2001)

Alannah Myles: Rock This Joint

Joan Jett vs Alannah Myles

The Entire Reason I include this ONE partiular Joan Jett song is this....

Just listen to Alannah sing "Rock This Joint". Listen to the rough quality of her voice. She can BE a bit wild in a case like this. Alannah approaches the type of toughness that Joan Jett sings within as a norm. But, this is not Alannah's thing. She can do it, or I should say she did do it, at one time. But, while Joan is truly a measurably tougher rocker, and a harder singer, Alannah Myles is not (at the core) quite so hard-core. She is truly, a more delicate creature. The point is that back then, she pushed herself to do it. And she could do it Very Well. She totally recognizes the spirit of this "Hard-Rocking" style. She acknowledges it from time to time in her music as seen in "Rock This Joint". But she's not built for this. Alannah is a fundamentally more gentle creature. Joan, is the Hard-Rocker. I just want you to see and acknowledge the mild overlap here. Alannah has left that as part of her past, and early rock efforts.

She is also compelled to move on and use her voice differently now.

SHE... has very little choice in the matter, and has HAD, 'little choice' in a few fundamentally important things, for quite some time. Her hand, is forced.

Joan Jett: I Hate Myself for Loving You

Alannah, Leather and Lace~ OUR WORLD OUR TIMES (crank it)

Every once in a while, a song will give you goosbumps. This, is such a HOT song, and, It is -I feel, TIMELESS. Do you FEEL it? ...Starting to "Shake"?

Better stand in the doorway.

Alannah Myles Coping with Neck Injury and more

STOLEN THUNDER

The singer who rocked the charts 20 years ago with hits like "Black Velvet" and "Lover of Mine" is today suffering a debilitating medical condition.

ALANNAH MYLES stunned fans on July 1, 2011- when ~she was carried on stage~ at Woodbine Park and seated on a piano bench, two canes at her sides. The 52-year-old Grammy winner later explained that she suffered serious spinal damage after too many chiropractic treatments and is unable to move her head and neck.

===================================

When you begin to observe how Alannah Myles works, you realize her strong spirit.

Early in her commercial career, she was met with industry resistance. So, Alannah Myles "drove" herself through the decade of the 90's as well as through her personal challenges, to the best of her human ability. She suffered emotional loss, where I refer to Love... loss of LOVE. Where, for some of us, loss of love, can kill. Then as she became both financially and physically challenged, she dealt with the humbling physical disability and comparable financial frailty simultaneously. She was living on the drabs of her touring, vs. her large recording contracts which was a stillborn business altogether, and she made no substantial profit at all from the "big" recording contract. You can find her in interviews speaking how she would make some of her own performance costumes for the videos she is world famous in. She performed because she was a professional. She performed because she loved it. She performed because she is a star. She performed because it is her truest ambition, and had earned her right to dominate within the field.

She has the war-wounds but not the accolades.

She deserved far better than she 'got'. She never... Never, financially benefited from her own music to the degree all others of similar talent were allowed to benefit and profit. She never benefited nearly as much as most fans expect. Yet she sold 1Million Albums out the gate, and at least 9 million since.

Her thunder was stolen. EN-TIRELY -By the time she arrived at the year 2000. A tremendous personal toll had been paid in terms of her body, and also in terms of her personal "wealth" and loss of professional "recognition". So then, Alannah grew quiet, all but disappearing from view... Ask yourself: How would many a human handle such crushing loss? Loss of love? Loss of professional recognition? Loss of wealth? ... or even to have it just simply, stolen from you? In front of the entire world, no less. And, to not even have the opportunity to fight for it...

And it was all legal.

Still, the band played on. And SHE is "here" for us, performing.

You will find her on facebook, sweetly commentating with her fans and their silliness. And commenting on some of her own simple daily "revelations" (some silly, some more serious).

But, are we "here" for her? Will her story be told?

Alannah: "Can You ever really Show Me, there's no secrets I must hide?"

Think of the personal cost of knowing you were doomed in the industry...

As You went ON, and On, and on... to make MILLIONS for others.

And YOU did not benefit from your own creativity and popularity. Now listen to the songs below.

"Would You be my Story, when I've NOTHING Left to Tell?"

The above heading is a quote from her song "Rocking Horse" I have a link to the song below at the end of this.

Alannah Myles is a brilliant songstress. The following quote is from her song "Rocking Horse",

" I wonder what would happen if I Smiled..." Go find out what she is referring to. Listen to it, draw your own conclusions. It is on YouTube, but it's here / below. I also have a YouTube link to "Do You Really Want to Know Me?", it plays only the audio track of this touching song.

Listen to her work, it will feel like she is speaking to you.

And, just as in the song "Love Is" at the beginning of this article, Alannah refers to the 'Stars Above'... "Looking for the answer, in the Stars Above..." There is quality, consistency ... and the truest heart... in this artist. (and she's tucked into a corner up near Lake Ontario, Canada).

Go Find Her.

'Rediscover' Alannah Myles.

Rocking Horse: "I wonder what would happen if I fell... would You pick me up and Be My Wishing Well... "

It ain't over... till it's Over
