Love's Long Journey~Third Movie of the Love Series~My Movie Review

Missie and Willie LaHaye

The third movie of Janette Oke’s Love Comes Softly series, made in 2005 is the continued story of Missie now played by (Erin Cottrell) who is now Missie LaHaye. Missie and Willie (Logan Bartholomew) are now married. Subsequently, saying their sad goodbyes to their families has started their journey towards their new life.

Willie and Missie have been married for two years now. Missie taught school for a year to help build their nest egg and contributed the money for their journey west to start their dream of a cattle ranch.

As the movie opens Willie and Missie are leaving the wagon train they joined to travel west. Now, they are traveling on their own to the town of Texford Junction to claim their homestead.

Willie and Missie's Long Journey

Willie and Missie were enjoying the beautiful view when suddenly she asked Willie to stop the wagon, then she ran behind a tree and was sick. Willie said they would stop for the night and start early in the morning. He does not have a clue that Missie is pregnant. When will Missie tell him about her pregnancy? Will childbirth out west without her Mama be difficult?

But Willie does notice trouble as he sees three men with masks on a hill overlooking their wagon. They seem very interested in causing trouble for Willie and Missie. Willie reached for his gun belt and strapped it on then, tied the bottom of the holster it to his leg. He stands his ground starting at them, until the men decided they did not want any of Willie, so they rode off. Simultaneously, Missie calls Willie to supper and they retired to bed early for an early start the next day.

They arrived early in Texford Junction, and obtained their deed for their homestead, and both Willie and Missie were so happy they walked down the street holding hands. Willie thought about the ranch hands he would need and soon.

Then suddenly, Willie pulls Missie into a small alley way and tenderly kisses her. She is so surprise as he kissed her with such loving passion her heart shined through her eyes.

Willie told her next to marrying her this was the happiest day of his life, and he promised to work harder than any man to build her a home for them and their children.

Missie had a quick idea this might be the right time to tell Willie something, but just as she started to tell him a young boy ran past them chasing a chicken. Then Willie said our ranch first then everything else comes after. And then when he inquired what Missie wanted to tell him, she blew it off with a nonessential answer.

Finally, they reached their journey’s end happy but a tiny bit disappointed. What they saw was anything but livable, a dilapidated tiny house, and an old barn, which didn’t look any better. Willie was watching Missie with so much hope and love in his eyes, and then he told her that he would build her a nicer home for them and their children and grandchildren.

Missie told Willie this is our first home and we will make it livable, and Willie picked her up and carried her over the threshold of their new decrepit home. Love can build a mansion with the deep love of Willie and Missie.

Missie is outside clearing their land of weeds and Willie is digging holes for the fence posts. She has not found the right time to tell Willie about their baby. And she is a little homesick thinking about her parents and brothers; and she thought of how much she missed the little comforts she had at home. Then her mind moved to Willie and how she worried that he is working too hard.

The next day Willie and Missie rode out over their land, both feeling blessed as they enjoyed the beauty of nature in all its glorious wonders. They stopped under some trees on their land when they saw Indians on the hill just looking at them. But there had not been any attacks in their area so they were not too concern, but would stayed vigilant.

Willie starts interviewing in town for cattle hands, while Missie stays home working. So, Missie decided to get some water from the well, when she unexpectedly sees an Indian riding towards her. She runs in the house to get the rifle and hides behind some furniture, ready for the enemy.

Suddenly an Indian woman is standing in Missies’ doorway and tells Missie her name is Marion Red Hawk McClain (Irene Bedard). She and Missie visited and became great friends and she told Missie that she would be with her when the child decides to come into the world. And Missie told Marion that she would bring the children in her village some books.

Now it is time for me to stop and let you enjoy the wondrously pleasure of seeing Love’s Long Journey for yourself.

This is one of the best movies based on a novel of Janette Oke who is the author for all the Love Comes Softly Series.

Love's Abiding Joy---My Movie Review

The fourth movie in the series of Love Comes Softly, was made in 2006 and it is filled with joy and sadness. As the movie opens we see that Missie (Erin Cottrell) and Willie (Logan Bartholomew) are with their family which has grown from their first child Matthew who is called Mattie (Brett Coker), and their adopted son Jeff LaHaye (Drew Tyler Bell), and Kathy their new baby.

Cookie is still with the family as a cook and family member as he is such a good person, and their cowhand Scottie (William Morgan Sheppard). The family is sitting around the table and Missie is eating fast as she does not want to be late to her teaching job in Texford Junction. She is teaching school to help out as the drought has cause much damage to crops and cattle. The last two years have been tough for all the farmer and ranchers around.

Willie is riding the range when he sees a buggy coming so he rides out to meet it. It is Samuel Doros (John Laughlin) who is there to offer the job of Sheriff to Willie. Willie turns him down, but he asks Willie to think about it.

That afternoon Missie and Willie are surprised by the visit of her father Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff) he has not seen Missie since she married and left home. It was a joyous father and daughter reunion. Clark Davis is such a good Christian man is he loved by all, especially by his grandson Matty.

The worst tragedy happened one morning while everyone was getting ready and eating breakfast, Missie went in to get Kathy, and she could not wake her up. She had stopped breathing.

They had her funeral under a big tree near the house and one of the ex-cowhands, Henry Klein (James Tupper) who was once a preacher conducted the funeral, he is now married and his wife Melinda Klein (Bianna Brown) is pregnant. Many friends and neighbors were in attendance, it was a heartbreaking time for everyone.

You will see how this ends when you see Love’s Abiding Joy.

Next Fifth in the series is Love’s Unending Legacy

And sixth in the series is Love’s Unfolding Dream

I have caught these movies on the Hallmark Channel and they are all so wonderful to watch. They show a part of our history that was so full of raw courage and strength. The romance that blossoms is sweet. Thanks for the reviews.

I have never heard of these but I will watch them if they come onto Hallmark in the UK; I love all of those stories about moving west and the pioneer spirit.

Voted up.
