New and Upcoming Mark Wahlberg Movies

In a week's time, Seth MacFarlane's comedy film Ted will hit theaters in North America. It's one of the most anticipated comedies of the year. After all, it's the brainchild of MacFarlane, the man behind popular shows like Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad!. Put the man's name on any production and there will be legions of fans looking forward to the thing. Also, Ted has a high profile cast in Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The trailer for the film which featured the character Ted has a lot of promise in it. The film sure looks like it's going to be comedy gold.

Ted's soundtrack also looks interesting. Besides the score by Walter Murphy, there are various songs from several artists including Norah Jones and the rock band Queen.

Heading into next week's highly anticipated release of Ted, let's first take a look into Marky Mark's most recent screen outings.

1. Contraband

Directed by Baltasar Kormakur, this action crime thriller is about an ex-criminal (Chris) forced to go back doing what he used to do in the past when his wife's brother gets kidnapped. Chris has to pay $700,000 within two weeks or his family will die. Chris has no choice but to do exactly what the mobster boss (Tim Briggs) asks of him.

The movie also stars Ben Foster, Kate Beckinsale, Giovanni Ribisi, Caleb Landry Jones and Lukas Haas.

2. The Fighter

This is a movie based on the life of boxer Mickey Ward and his relationship with his addict brother and trainer Dicky Eklund. This is a must-watch film most especially if you are a fan of boxing, the sport some refer to as the sweet science. This film is considered to be among the best films of 2010. It earned 6 nominations during the year's Oscar Awards although it won only two of these nominations - Best Supporting Actor for Christian Bale and Best Supporting Actress for Melissa Leo. The film also won the Best Sports Movie award at the 2010 ESPY Awards.

There are reports circulating that a sequel for the movie might be in the works. Such sequel will likely focus on Micky Ward's epic trilogy with Arturo Gatti.

3. The Other Guys

This is a comedy film by Adam McKay (Anchorman 2, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy). The movie is about the misadventures of two very mismatched New York City cops. The duo finds an opportunity to be like the top cops they admire. However, things don't go as they planned. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play the two cops.

Also in the cast are Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan and Samuel L. Jackson. A lot of movie critics praised the film as the best cop movie of the year (2010).

4. Date Night

This is a comedy film topbilled by Tina Fey and Steve Carell. It's directed by Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, The Pink Panther). The movie follows the story of a married couple whose world gets turned upside down when they were mistaken for somebody else.

In the movie, Mark Wahlberg plays a character named Holbrooke Grant, a security expert.

Fey, Carell and Wahlberg are joined in the cast by Ray Liotta, William Fichtner, James Franco, Mila Kunis and Kristen Wiig.

5. Max Payne

This is a movie adaptation of a popular video game with the same title. It revolves around a policeman who journeys into the criminal underworld of New York City with the intention of exacting revenge on the people who murdered his family - wife and child.

Although the movie received mostly negative reviews from both movie critics and fans of the video game from which it was based, the film was a moderate financial success.

The film was directed by John Moore (A Good Day to Die Hard, The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix, Behind Enemy Lines).

6. The Lovely Bones

Directed by Peter Jackson (The Hobbit: There And Back Again, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Adventures of Tintin, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), this is a movie adaptation of the novel by Alice Sebold. It's about a murdered young girl who watches over her parents from heaven. Will she desire for revenge or will she allow her family to heal from the tragedy that has befallen her?
