Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - A Movie Review
Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol Movie
The movie Mission Impossible, Ghost Protocol just came out. I was able to make it to see it on its opening day, and I wasn't disappointed. Having seen the other Mission Impossible movies, I looked forward very much to seeing it. There were a lot of scenes that took a twist from so many other action packed scenes that we are used to seeing. It wasn't just another car chase, or scary climbing scene, or seduction scene. They did great work on making things seem new and exciting, in regards to what we have come to expect from movies like this.
This Mission Impossible is of course the fourth installment in the series. Tom Cruise, playing Ethan hunt, along with his team are racing against the clock at what seem to be impossible odds (of course, its an impossible mission, right?) I always smile when we hear the words, "this is your mission, if you should choose to accept it..., " as if they may not! Haha... Its still fun to hear it all the same. There is a classic response later on by Tom Cruise that I will not spoil for you here that they kind of joke about within the movie itself.
The basic plot, is that there is a brilliant terrorist named Hendricks that has some crazy ideas of world peace that include the use of nuclear weapons. He, through some crazy methods, gains access to a Russian Nuclear launch codes and has plans to strike the United States. he does this while pinning some large crimes on Hunt and his team. Thus the need for ghost protocol, which the president of the US has put into place. They are all disavowed. Its a great plot, in which the team is not only trying to clear their name, but also trying to save the world. Everything seems to go wrong of course. An impossible mission seems to become even more impossible as it all unfolds. The team, being disavowed cannot receive help from anyone in any form. They are completely on their own.
They are all given a chance to get out of the mission, as it seems beyond impossible, likely with a very negative outcome. They all decide to remain and move forward against the odds. They end up chasing Hendricks to Dubai, and then go to Mumbai. Just when you think they may have really beat the odds, they seem to utterly fail, the nuclear device it launched...
I won't say any more, but you can get a feel for what a great plot it is. Anticipating some startling parts of the movie, I was still surprised at times, and it was a lot of fun.
The cast was awesome. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Simon Pegg as Benji, Paula Patton as Jane, and Jeremy Renner as Brandt all did an awesome job in my opinion. An excellent cast all around. Simon Pegg was especially fun I thought, a nice surprise in that roll. I can't imagine it without him there. Anil Kapoor had a fun role in the movie, he made me smile. Lea Seydoux seemed perfect for her role, she can be rather scary with an interesting touch that I can't quite put my finger on. There were many other great actors and actresses as well.
I would recommend it, especially if you enjoy the Mission Impossible movies of course. You don't want to miss it.
