Monica Was Inspired By Whitney Houston and Aaliyah
Now Thats Entertainment Presents Monica, Carl Thomas,The Intruders, Phoenix and Sheila Song
A Evening of Love Songs, Excitement and Laughter
Monica, is overwhelmingly one of the greatest female singers in the music industry today. Her explosive performance of her Grammy Award winning hit The Boy Is Mine, was sang as a duet with Brandy. Monica Denise Brown, is "a songwriter, singer, producer and actress," who is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She started performing in various contests at the age of ten. Monica, enthusiastically expressed how at one point before going on stage, she was a little timid. The late Whitney Houston advised Monica by commenting, "You gotta sang baby. Go out there and sing because they are scared of you. They are afraid of girls with little bodies and the big old voice." How accurate and true are those words of Whitney; Monica does have "a big old voice." Her definitive sound can be compared with the big voice of the incomparable Whitney Houston. Before Monica finished her performance, two songs were dedicated to Whitney. She admitted that there would never be another singer like Whitney. Although powerful voices continue to transcend in adept individuals such as Monica.
Recently a movie entitled, #AAliyah: The Princess of R&B, was produced by #Wendy Williams, a popular talk show host. This feature film presented the life of AAliyah, as a musical performer and actress. Monica, was mentioned as a close friend in the documentary entitled, Beyond the Headlines: AAliyah. This talented young woman's life was cut short during the prime of her musical career. AAliyah, had even started to establish herself in the movie industry by appearing in such films as #Romeo Must Die, with future prospects for major roles in such movies as #The Matrix. Monica, established a close relationship with AAliyah. Within this documentary about the princess of R&B, Monica stated, "I rejoice in the idea she will share with us for quite some time. She left behind things we could never forget." Monica's close relationship with AAliyah, was evident and this was obviously another one of her mentors and sources of inspiration. #AAliyah, died at the age of twenty-two as friends and family expressed, "Aaliyah, achieved more than many do in several lifetimes . . ." We agree with Monica, family and friends, "We still miss this multi-talented R&B princess."
The Show Must Go On With Our Modern Day R&B Princess
When audience members heard Monica's melodic brilliance within the venue, they ran to the stage like anxious little children. She appeared singing Still Standing, as her devoted fans were on their feet singing every major Billboard hit such as Angel of Mine, Don't Take It Personal and Before You Walk Out Of My Life. It was now comprehendable why, "In 2010 Billboard listed her as number 24 on its list of the Top 50 R&B and Hip Hop Artists of the past 25 years," stated Wikipedia. She has "sold more than 20 million albums worldwide including over six million units in the United States with a career for more than 15 years. Monica's soundtrack entitled, For You I Will, is part of the movie Space Jam. She served as an adviser to Cee Loo Green, during the debut of the television show The Voice." At present Monica's ultimate joy appears to be the role of wife to NBA player Shannon Brown.of the New York Knicks. She also enjoys the role of motherhood as well. Over the years Monica, has proven to be an artist of exemplary talent and energy. It is my desire to attend another one of Monica's performances in the future bbecause she is one of the most powerful singers today.
Now That's Entertainment in Conjunction with John Dais Clean Productions presented The Intruders Parade of Stars Concert Night Out. This conglomerate of entertainment not only featured Monica but also the immensely talented Carl Thomas, who was a special guest. His voice is rapturous in style and composition. Carl, was discovered at a Night Club "in New York during open-mic night and caught the eye of Sean Puffy Combs who signed Thomas to Bad Boy Entertainment in 1997," explained Wikipedia. The talented Carl Thomas talked about his present plans with me which consist of a release called, Carl Flux TV for ILS. He then discussed how he was working diligently to establish his brand. It has taken about three years but he hopes things will be completed in June of this year.He advidly works with social media to expand his brand as well. The interview ended and then it was time for the resplendent music of Carl Thomas.
Carl and Monica, were introduced by Shamara, who serves as morning host of Hot 107.9. During her interview she talked about the hope and future of the music industry. Shamara stated how, "The future is the same as the Civil Rights Movement which spoke to generations that wanted to be lost and found." She went on to acknowledge that young people in the music industry should look at other artists that are successful and say, "If they made it, so can I." Carl Thomas, obviously has looked at the success of other entertainers and believed that he could do the same. His album "Emotional was certified platinum with over 1 million in sales." Wikipedia mentioned that, "On the strength of his single and the album's other singles Summer Rain was at #18 which appeared on the soundtrack to the 2000 film version of Shaft." Carl, also earned a "Grammy Award Nomination in 2006 along with Chaka Khan, Yolonda Adams and the late Gerald Levert for "Everyday (Family Reunion) a song from the soundtrack of Tyler Perry's Medea's Family Reunion. They received a nomination for Best R&B Performance with a Duo or Group with vocals." Carl Thomas is a multi-talented artist.
Thomas started his performance by singing the ineffable Summer Rain. During Thomas' show, he did a very manly thing for a couple. Carl, allowed Andrew to propose marriage to Zenoba on stage. He appreciated that Andrew wanted to do this in front of so many people. This proves that Carl Thomas, not only sings romantic music but is a romantic. He then went on to ask, "How many are ready for love tonight?" The audience admirably responded in applause as they continued to sing such major hits as I Wish and songs from his Emotional and Let's Talk About It albums. Carl Thomas, also had tremendous success with his third album, So Much Better which reached # 25 on the U.S. Billboards. He lovingly did a dedication to #Motown by singing a song by Eddie Kendricks. Carl, then went on to acknowlege, "I am here because of those who gave opportunities before me and because of his big brothers Levert, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder." During the interview Thomas, admitted that he took a sabbatical after the death of his stepbrother but he is back, strong and determined to give his audience their money's worth. He fulfilled that promise with an amazing performance.
The beautiful Patty Jackson, a DJ of the very popular WDAS FM. introduced the other entertainers on the show. She has been the voice introducing music to the community for numerous years. During an interview backstage Patty, talked about how she is raising a teenage son who, "crashed into a girl because he was chasing her." Her son received a concussion from this experience. Patty laughed about how her son takes after his father. She was so effective at getting the audience excited about the performances of The intruders, who sang their major hits Cowboys and Girls and I Will Always Love My Momma. A very talented singer out of Philadelphia by the name of Phoenix, also performed. She sings R&B, Hip Hop and Jazz mostly. Phoenix enjoys performing music that is relevant. "I like to keep it alive and fresh. I enjoy doing R&B. Hip hop is really weird right now because people are not talking about anything. It is simple and people do not care about a story," stated Phoenix. She writes her own songs. During the show Phoenix performed songs by Tamar Braxton and Beyonce. Phoenix, has a "big voice" as well. We look forward to her next performance. Sheila Song, also performed the beautiful song Home as well as a few hits from her album. Rachmaun, was present as host for a few minutes of comedy. This was a show packed full of tremendous artists singing beautiful love songs. Once again, #Now That's Entertainment, in conjunction with Clean Productions and The Intruders' parade of stars concert, was superlative. We look forward to their next production which will feature George Benson, on Satturday, May 10th, 2014. Tickets can be obtained by going to Ticketmaster.com or www.nowthatsentertainment.org You can also contact Rick Coley at 866-773-2344 for more information. Now, that will once again be great entertainment. Hope to see you there.
