Movies - Must See!

Top 5 Movies

I love movies, any an all movies. See a movie, going to the theater and eating popcorn is just plain wonderful. These movies are what I liked, reasons why are listed below. This article is strictly about what I liked about each of these movies. These films made me feel, believe, hope and think. I rate movies by two things;

  1. Would I watch it again?
  2. Would I buy this movie?

So after careful consideration, here are the top five movies I liked best in this ear and I recommend watching. These are in no specific order, just that they are brilliant and I hope you rent or watch them soon.

  1. Iron Man
  2. Seven Pounds
  3. Twilight
  4. Bedtime Stories
  5. Indiana Jones 4

Bedtime Stories - great movie!

Seven pounds, Must SEE!

Top Box Office Movies

I know this list is a little unusual because there were probably better, good or more moving, exciting, exhilarating movies but here is why these are on my top movie list. Iron Man, gosh, Robert Downey Jr., is a fantastic and gifted actor. The storyline was crude and raw at times but so real, that anybody could do what he did in creating Iron Man (if you had the imagination, creativity and money). But I loved the action scenes the most because, the reality that others just want to take from you and what you have accomplished was significant in this movie. But the triumph developed and come through when he (Tony Stark) won in the end. Just an extremely entertaining and exciting movie.

Seven Pounds, wonderful, sad, real and rare movie that touched my very soul. Will Smith made this movie so believable. The first 30 minutes was hard, I am not going to lie, but after I got through the first 30 minutes, man, that movie was soulful and heart wrenching. It just carried my emotions to a higher level and I understood and felt was he was portraying. I completely and totally related to this movie, no matter what happens, try and do what's right.

Let’s be honest, Twilight is not the best movie, but if you read the book first, then see the movie, it is a remarkable movie! The book, in my opinion, made the movie. Respectable actors and actresses in this movie, no doubt. But the storyline is what made this movie so successful. We all want to believe in true love between different species, that is the kicker here. We all want to believe that vampires are good guys, that they will do good and be suitable to live in our society. The old age story, bad guy meets good girl and falls in love, which this combination will always win out. If you haven’t read the book, you should, it’s that good.

I have a young son and we have “movie night” once a week. After a while they all seem the same to me, but we sit, watch and discuss each after the movie. Talking about these shows opens the doors of communication between child and parent. Anyway, Bedtime Stories are one of those movies, I could watch over and over. It is impressive because it is a simple movie that emphasis's, believing and hoping in others will win out in the end. Such a great kid’s movie and adults will love it too. Talented young actors in this movie but truly a fun, entertaining, feel-good movie for all to enjoy.

I have seen all four of the Indiana Jones series, but I really liked the 4thmovie the best. I heard good and bad reviews for this movie. After I watched it wIth my son, I loved it. Because we talked about living in the 50’s, about archeology, gems and old cars that normally we would never really discuss. But this movie was very entertaining and I thought Harrison Ford look awesome, old but rugged in a very handsome sort of way. The action was tremendous and electrifying, Harrison Ford did an outstanding job in this film.

I am sure you have other movies in 2008 that you liked better but if you haven’t seen any of these, then watch them, because they are thrilling, superb and moving. All are different an unique but most of all, they are entertaining and I enjoyed them very much.

I really liked Iron Man and loved Kristen Stewart (ever since Into the Wild) in Twilight (of the movies I liked). I won't comment on the others :D

I still have yet to see Seven Pounds. I will see it soon, however. Thanks for sharing this!

The Dark Knight? I am sorry but Dark Knight is possibly one of the best action/comic/storyline/villain movie ever.

Ladybird,

This is a nice hub, I will have to go read your others now. I loved 7 pounds, and like you I struggled to get through the first 30-40 minutes. It was late in the movie when I couldn't stop watching and the ending I cried like a 7 year old school girl although I'm 47 and a MAN!

I didn't watch it with my wife, that night (she didn't feel good) She watched it later and cried as well. It was a really good movie. If you are going to write another blog in the future about

If you write a blog in the future for movies of 2009, consider watching if you haven't already "Ponyo" http://www.ponyo.com.au/

I was at the mall the other day with my wife and daughter (Emily is 3) We were there to pick out a movie to watch. Ponyo was the only thing that looked interesting and it was rated G! Let me just tell you, this movie was FANTASTIC! With a capital F! The animation was excellant and the sound, OMG, the sound effects in this movie made me feel like we were right there in the movie itself. This is a MUST see for the entire family. Emily was on the edge of her seat (literally) She was entranced with this movie and I couldn't get enough. I found myself googling it the next day to watch a trailer or two of it. I will definately BUY this movie and it will go down in history with our family as one of the all time gerat movies, right next to "The Wizard of Oz!"

If you watch this movie, please let me know what you think.

Thanks

Jeff

Ladybird, this is a novel idea for a movie "review" hub. Makes so much sense -- when most of us ask a friend or relative if they saw/liked a movie the "review" we get is personal. Very few of us have the technical knowledge to critique a movie like Ebert & Roper! But the personal touch you have put into each of these is really great. It helps to know that you watch movies with your son!

Can't say I love ALL movies. Very few do I actually love. But it's good to expose ourselves to a variety of plots, characters and styles.

Thanks for writing this. MM

P.S. Agree Harrison Ford has aged like a fine... leather saddle:-). MM

I have to admit I am very behind on my movies. It has been such a busy summer I have not even had time for TV. But now that things are winding down I am trying to find some movies to put on a list of those I want to see now that the kids are back in school.

Well, Lady B. Like you said, this are your personal choices, so cant argue with you on that one, even if I wanted to. I dont. :) but anyways, Seven Pounds features Will Smith in what in my opinion is his greatest performance EVER! Quote me on that! In the movie, he crossed over to the other side - the side that many actors never cross over in all their careers. :)

This is a very unusual subject for a hub. I LOVE IT. I saw 7 POUNDS and until you get to the end it's a very unusual movie. I'm not too into Adam Sandler. But all these movies have their good qualities. Keep it up. Good Luck on #100 Hub.

Thank you, Ladybird. I'm a big fan of Will Smith and I never saw 7 Pounds, but I'll put it in my Netflicks queue to rent, for sure! Oh, and I loved the Twilight series books, too.

Well, Twilight in general just isn't my cup of tea, and I never saw Seven Pounds but Indiana Jones? Seriously? Now I can understand if you enjoyed the movie on it's own merit but in comparison to the previous films it was sub par to say the least. Give me Nazis and heart-snatching cult priests over those weird psychic Russians and their alien pals any day.

I loved 7 Pounds, but one of my favs wasn't extremely popular..I loved Will Ferrell in "Stranger than Fiction" a beautiful, quirky love story - with Ferrell toned down.

Hi Lindsay and Amy I really hope you reply even tgohuh it has been 2 years since you've posted on here I'm so glad to have found this site. My name is Nichole and I am almost 23 years old, I have suffered with NDPH since I was 16. I was a Sophomore in high school, it was near the end of 2006 when I got sick with bronchitis and the flu and coughed and coughed and noticed I had a really terrible headache with it. Once the sickness went away I noticed that the migraine, that pain in my head that had been so foreign to me prior to this, had not gone away, and still has not to this day I had to be home schooled and quit all of my sports I was a part of My friends went on with their lives and forgot about me while I had a constant 24/7 pain that I could not get rid of no matter how hard I tried or how much it killed me, physically and mentally. We began with Chiropractors, decompression machines, adjustments, etc. I traveled hours to probably 20 different Chiropractors that all said that they knew what I had and exactly how to treat it. I've tried natural supplements, over the counter medications, 6 Occipital nerve blocks in the back of my head, massage, diets of no wheat, no gluten, no sugar, vegan only, all with no progress. My family understands the pain and how I can be ok one minute but then pick up something slightly too heavy, walk a little too fast, sit down a little too hard and I will have to be in my room with blankets over my windows and absolutely no sound because the pain is so unbearable. It is so frustrating because I too feel like a burden, like ok you have a headache so what? Why can't you stay out late or get up early or work long shifts or run around and be active? But it is so much more than a headache It's become a way of life and although I think I handle it well I know that deep down I am depressed and deeply saddened by it because anytime I stop to think about it or talk to anyone about it I cry instantly. Lindsay, I too have tried the things you have with no help and at Cleveland Clinic where they did my nerve blocks they told me about the program where you stay there for an amount of time. My option they told me about when staying there was a few weeks, they would put me on all these medications and steroid medications, have physical therapy and counseling as well. They also said the FDA would soon be approving the Botox injections, I'm sorry those did not help you either NDPH has altered my life drastically, I can't work as much, I can't run around and just be free, I can't take a full load of classes at a time Basically I just want to thank you for having this site Amy, it is really more helpful than you know, just knowing that I'm not the only one to suffer from this and that I'm not the only one that has this pain to think about every single second of every day Bless you and bless all your readers, may you all find relief from the pain -Nichole
