Music Review: War (If It Feels Good, Do It!) Emcee Dubya Vs. Djs of Mass Destruction
Hip Hop Slam: Alternative Tentacles
"War" is a hilarious and sarcastic commentary collage on the events of the Iraqi war and the resulting comments of President Bush, which are something to laugh at on their own.
Despite the sarcasm and repeated focus on Bush’s less than intelligent comments there is a note of seriousness in the War compilation. It strives to wake up the American public to the propaganda tactics used by the government facilitated through fear tactics in order to maintain support wars.
Hip Hop Slam uses a cut-and-past production style to create a collage of political commentary and electronica beats. The compilation inspires anger, action and thought about propaganda and war.
One of the strongest sentiments in the compilation is how economic greed is destroying our world. Economics based on greed is the name of the game. It seems to be a game, as well, as very little value is placed on the sanctity of life and human compassion and love.
Fear breeds more fear, and violence. Terroism is an act of violence. Our violence will not end terrorism. It will only ensure that others around the globe will act with hatred towards us. If the U.S. truly wanted to end terrorism they would spread compassion instead of bombs, and then Hip Hop Slam artist could mix a compilation about peace.
