You Must See this Amazing Video

Male Singer Sounds Like Whitney Houston

Did you watch the first videos of Great Britain's charming Susan Boyle - of the unaffected manner (so far) and the lovely, sweet voice. She was amazing, wasn't she? She blew away Simon Cowell and company with her performance of the beautiful song, "I Dreamed a Dream," from "Les Miserables."

Well, get ready. You're going to be blown away again. Just as Susan Boyle dazzled the judges on the television show, "Britain's Got Talent," wait till you see and hear Lin Yu Chun and his version of "I Will Always Love You." He performed it on the Taiwan TV show, "Super Star Avenue."

When you closed your eyes and listened to fhis boy wonder, did you feel as if you were listening to Whitney Houston? or Dolly Parton? He's called a boy wonder but the "boy" part is misleading. Although he looks like a teenager, he has attained the ripe old age of 24. But the wonder part is absolutely accurate.

Although the video gives credit to Whitney Houston's rendition of the song, "I Will Always Love You," it was written and subsequently recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973. Watch the next video of Whitney Houston's version from the sound track of the movie, "BodyGuard," in which she co-starred with Kevin Costner.

Now that you have heard Whitney's version as well as Lin's, don't they sound remarkably alike? Lin seems to be the favorite to win the grand prize on the Taiwan TV show which is one million dollars, as well as the opportunity to release an album. Not bad for a previously unknown, chubby, height-challenged singer. He also has amazing eyebrows - did you notice?

Now take a look at this video of Dolly Parton singing her own song from the soundtrack of the movie, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," in which she co-starred with the ubiquitous Burt Reynolds. Isn't she pretty? Isn't he pretty, too?

Leona Lewis sang her version of the song on Britains's "X Factor" television show in 2006 -similar to the TV show, "Britain's Got Talent," which rocketed Susan Boyle to superstardom. It hasn't hurt Leona's career, either.

Now that you have listened to all four versions, which is your favorite? Please take the poll below and comment, too. Thank you.

Which artist's version of the song, "I Will Always Love You," is your favorite?

Something to Think About

Susan Boyle's first album has sold millions of copies worldwide to date and she netted her first royalties with a check for $4,000,000 which coincided with her 49th birthday.

Will Lin Yu Chun do as well?

Love Dolly's version best. Wonder boy may be 24, but he sounds and looks like he will always be a boy.

WOW - tough choice. In a way they were all different. Of course Dolly wrote the song & for awhile it waa all her song, till Whitney made it into a big hit. Both were really good. Leona Lewis blows me away even more. But I'll have to say that Lin Yu Chun, the young Chinese fellow from Taiwan really amazed me and I think it's his day in the sun. So I have to say he was the best of them. Great hub, drbj!

I agree, breakfastpop, the young man is awesome with a remarkable voice. I wouldn't be surprised if he attains the same sort of viral stardom enjoyed by Susan Boyle. More power to both of them.

Hi, Pamela. I agree you can't go wrong listening to Lin, Whitney, Dolly or Leona. They are all extremely talented.

A great singing voice is definitely not a talent I possess so I appreciate more than most those who can sing well.

Hi, Ivorwen. There's a story - don't know if it's apocryphal or not - that Dolly wrote that song to let Porter Waggoner of the Grand Old Opry know how she felt about him and the fact that they couldn't be together. True or not, it's a great story - and she does exhibit a tremendous amount of feeling while singing those lyrics.

Thank you, Nellieanna, I agree with you.

They are all very special, talented entertainers and each one is a unique star. I think this young man may eclipse them all if his voice stays as clear and true as he gets older.

Hi, Maita. You're right - they are all amazing artists. But Lin may just be the most amazing of all with that sweet, clear voice of his. It will be interesting to follow his career.

And you're most welcome.

Froggie - I'm trying to imagine your voice and I keep getting reminded of those 3 cute lil singing frogs in the old Budweiser commercials.

I know they are not you but amphibian images keep creeping into my subconscious mind (?).

Thanks for the comment - I particularly admire "neck of the Hubs." You are truly creative ... for a frog.

Gosh, this song is doing the rounds. But the boy singing it has a real talent, and talent comes in all kinds of interesting packages. I love the way you set up the various videos for comparison. Excellent Hub.

Thank you, Astra Nomik, your "excellent" comment is much appreciated.

I knew that some readers might have seen this amazing singer before but might not have heard the other singers who also made this song amazing.

That poll at the end was a hard one. I was planning on just voting for Whitney Houston but Lin and Leonna's versions sort of mimic hers. They're all great. Dolly Parton's the original so she should get the credit. :) She also has a very pretty voice.

Hub voted up and awesome.

drbj profile image

drbj 6 years ago from south Florida Author

Thank you, kaltopsyd, for the visit and the lovely comments. "Voted up" and "awesome" are two of my favorites.

I've discovered that many folks who know the song may not be aware that Dolly Parton wrote it. She is wonderfully talented and yes, she IS an original.

Dimsie 5 years ago

Have just seen this and am blown away by this young man's rendition of this beautiful song. He got my vote in the poll, though I'd usually vote for Dolly over the others who sing it. You're right, BTW, Dolly wrote this song for Porter Wagoner when she left his show. I think there was some disagreement between them at the time, to do with the show, not a romantic relationship, and she then wrote it to show Porter how she really felt about him and express her gratitude to him as her mentor. So it isn't really a love song in the usual romantic way, but a song of love and appreciation for someone who had helped her to fulfil her dream. There's a very touching video on YouTube of her singing it to Porter on stage shortly before his death, you can see how moved he is by it.

drbj profile image

drbj 5 years ago from south Florida Author

Thank you, Dimsie, for your visit and enjoyment of this young singer's rendition of Dolly's song. Thanks also for the additional details about Dolly and Porter. I know she wrote the song for Porter but like you, do not know if she meant it as a love song as well, or simply as a song of appreciation. Whatever the motive, it is a bautiful melody.

Thank you for sharing this. While they were all amazing, I chose Whitney because I just so enjoyed her voice and how she carried us through the song with her. I had the pleasure of seeing her with my daugther on the Fourth of July in Tampa one year and she sang this song....it was a moment we have treasured...a golden voice. Now lost but thankfully captured on video and CD. sending Angels t0 you :0 ps

Yes, ps, Whitney had an amazing vocal talent and left us much too soon. So happy you had the thrill of seeing her perform in person with your daughter. That is surely an event to remember. Thanks as always for the visit and the angels. Be sure to keep at least one of them for yourself. :)
