My favorite band La Oreja De Vangogh a popular band formed from Spain. They are widely known for their huge hit song "Rosas" (Roses).

This is my list of my favorite Latin-American singers and bands from today:) Listening to their music just makes me proud of being a part of my Latin-American culture and being a Mexican. Even if you don't know Spanish you should at least try listening to their music so you can learn spanish that way, but i'm going to post lyrics in English to the song videos so you can sing along also or you can practise your spanish without reading the english lyrics. Here are some artists that I think have made meaningful and wonderful music.

1. La Oreja De Vangogh

I love this band because their music is just so inspiring and positive.

La Oreja de Van Gogh English: Van Gogh's Ear) is a Latin Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated Spanish pop band from Donostia-San Sebastian. The name of the band refers to the famous post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh who cut off the lobe of his own ear. Their characteristically poetic songs (both lyrics and music) are written mainly by band members Pablo Benegas, Xabi San Martín and Amaia Montero. The themes of their songs typically include love, friendship and relationships. Since their debut, they have sold more than 6 million copies worldwide of their albums.

In November 2007, lead singer Amaia Montero announced that she would be leaving the group to begin a solo career their replacement, Leire Martínez, was announced in July 2008, along with the band's first single "El Último Vals" from their album titled A las cinco en el Astoria which was released on September 2, 2008. Leire was discovered on the Spanish reality show Factor X

La Oreja De Vangogh- Rosas (Roses)

Lyrics to "Rosas" (Roses) Song

" In one of these days that I tend to think

today is going to be the least expected

We have crossed, you decided to look,

the blue eyes that are now by your side.

From the moment I met you

summarizing hastily quiet time

I swear that I haven't told anyone that

we have the world record in loving each other.

That is why I waited with my face soaked

that you would come with roses, with a million roses for me

because you already know how much I love those things

that it doesn't matter if its stupid, I'm like that.

and even though it seems like a lie that he escapes from my life

imagining that you'll stop by here,

where every friday afternoon, like always,

hope tells me "be quiet, maybe today it will..."

Escaping one night from a yawning sun

you asked me to give you a kiss

with how cheap my love is,

how much does it cost to silence me with one of those.

Six months passed and you told me goodbye,

a pleasure to meet in this life.

There I stayed, with one hand in my heart,

and the other one of excuses that you would not understand.

And I start to think

that true love is only the first

and I start suspecting

that the rest of them are only to forget.

La Oreja De Vangogh- "La Playa" (The Beach)

Lyrics to "La Playa" (The Beach)

" I don't know if you still remember me

we met through the times

you, the sea, and the sky

and who brought me here to you.

You hugged my hugs

guarding that moment

like its the first

would put it away for me.

If I could be able to rewind time

I would see you wake up everyday

smiling like that time,

like that time.

I'm going to write to you the most beautiful song in the world,

I'm going to capture our story only in seconds.

And one day you will see for real that this crazy person by little forgets,

as long as many years pass in his life.

On the day of the farewell

of this beach of my life

I made a promise to you:

to see you again like this.

More than fifty summers

its been years since that day that we don't see each other

neither you, the sea, and the sky

neither what brought me here to you.

I could be able to rewind time

I would see you wake up everyday

smiling like that time,

like that time.

I'm going to write to you the most beautiful song in the world,

I'm going to capture our story only in seconds.

And one day you will see for real that this crazy person by little forgets,

as long as many years pass in his life."

2. Juanes

Love Juanes's music because his music is really inspirational. What I love about him as an artist is that he is not afraid to express himself about certain subjects even if if it has to do about political affairs that are happening in the world.

Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez (born August 9, 1972), better known as Juanes (for the contraction of his first and second name) is a Colombian musician who was a member of heavy metal band Ekhymosis and is now a solo artist. In 2000, his solo debut album Fíjate Bien won three Latin Grammy Awards. According to his record label, Juanes has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.

Raised in Medellín, Colombia, Juanes began playing guitar at age seven. He started his first band, Ekhymosis, in 1988, which experienced commercial success in Colombia but had difficulty achieving popularity outside of the country. In 2000, Juanes released his solo debut album, Fíjate Bien, which earned him three Latin Grammys. His follow-up album, Un Dia normal, was released in 2002 and was later certified platinum in multiple countries throughout Latin America. Juanes' third album, Mi Sangre, achieved success due to the single "La Camisa Negra". He has since released La Vida... Es Un Ratico (2007) and P.A.R.C.E. (2010).

He has won seventeen Latin Grammy Awards and one Grammy Award. Juanes received the BMI President's Award at the 2010 BMI Latin Awards Juanes is also known for his humanitarian work, especially with aid for Colombian victims of anti-personnel mines.

Juanes- A Dios Le Pido (I Ask to God) 2002

Lyrics to Juanes song "A Dios le Pido" (I Ask to God)

" My eyes wake up

with the light of your gaze

I ask to God

for my mother not to die

and that my father remembers me

I ask to God

That you stay by my side

and to never disappear ever from my life

I ask to God

that my soul doesn't rest

when loving you it has to do with my sky

I ask to God

For the days that I have left

and the nights that still haven't come

I ask to God

for the kids of my kids

and the kids of your kids

I ask to God

For my village not to spill so much blood

And wakes up my people

I ask to God

for my soul not to rest

when loving you it has to do with my sky

I ask to God

One more second of life to give you

And my entire heart to give you

One more second of life to give you

and I will always stay by your side forever

One more second of life

I ask to God

That if I die it will be of love

And if I fall in love it will be both of us

and from your voice to be this heart

Everyday I ask to God

That if I die it will be of love

and if I fall in love it will be both of us

and that your voice will be in this heart

everyday I ask to God

I ask to God."

Juanes- "Fijate Bien" (Take A Good Look) 2000

Lyrics to Juanes "Fijate Bien" (Take A Good Look)

" They have taken everything away from you

they have robbed you the bread of the day

they have taken you away from you lands

And it doesn't look like its finishing here...

Taken away from your home

going with no direction to the city

we're the sons of nothing

we're the life that goes away

Its the kids, its the elders

its the mothers, we're everyone walking

don't forget this no no no...

Take a good look were your stepping

take a good look when you're walking

It won't be that a mine

rips your feet love

Take a good look were your stepping

take a good look we're your walking

it won't be that a mine

rips your feet...

I don't know anymore whose the boss of your life

and of mine

I only know that there's a story

that doesn't look like its finishing here...

Like they say in the newspapers

How they say on the t.v.

And how they say on the radio

It doesn't look like its finishing here

Its the kids, its the elders

its the mothers, we're everyone walking

Don't forget this no no no...

Take a good look were your stepping

take a good look when you're walking

It won't be that a mine

rips your feet love

Take a good look we're your stepping

take a good look we're your walking

it won't be that a mine

rips your feet please...

Take a good look were your stepping

take a good look when you're walking

It won't be that a mine

rips your feet love

Take a good look were your stepping

take a good look when you're walking

It won't be that a mine

rips your feet love

Because they are not going to look for you

They are not going to save you

They are not going, they are not going to, no no no, and your not going to believe it

They are not going to find you

They are not going to save you

They will not, they will not no, no and your not going to believe it."

3. Belinda

Belinda Peregrin- "Angel" (Angel)

Lyrics to Belinda's song "Angel" (Angel)

" Here I am, here you are, although it is in the
imagination baby this time, I want to be, the full
moon that waits for you and illuminates you like a
friend I have been loyal to you, now I carry you
in my skin I know it won't happen but I am going
to dream it choir I tell you we both are like wind
that is floating in the immensity I hear your
voice, I dream with you you are my peace angel, let
me fly high next to you I always want to be your
wings fill my soul

Your love mark, I carry it in my skin
being just friends is not easy baby
waking up is a pain without more truth
what I always love and still wait

Like a friend I have been loyal,
now I carry you in my skin
when is it going to stop or become true

Chorus x2
I tell you we both are like wind

that is floating in the immensity I hear your
voice, I dream with you you are my peace angel, let
me fly high next to you I always want to be your
wings fill my soul

I'm so scared of losing you I'm so scared not to
see you again although you are my friend you mean
more to me this secret valley, my heart will hide
I have dreamed all, and it was with you

Chorus

Here I am, here you are,

although it is in the imagination baby"

4. Belanova

Love this band's music because its unique and makes you want to dance to it.

Belanova are a Mexican synthpop band that formed in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 2000. The group consists of Denisse Guerrero (lead vocals), Edgar Huerta (keyboards, programming), and Ricardo "Richie" Arreola (bass, guitar). Although these are the only three official members, several other musicians perform in the band's live lineup, most notably Israel "Campanita" Ulloa (drums) and Richo Acosta (guitar). The band was not signed to a record label until 2002 when they were signed to the Mexican dance label, Virus Records, owned by Universal Music.

Belanova's fourth album, Fantasía Pop, showcased a move further away from electropop and more towards pop. The album was released on September 10, 2007 in Mexico and Latin America, and on September 11, 2007 in the United States. The album was recorded in Argentina. The first single, "Baila Mi Corazón" premiered ahead of the album, on July 2, on the Mexican radio station Los 40 Principales. In July 2007, the band signed a contract with Sony Ericsson México to release the model W580 as a special Belanova Edition, which included three new tracks from the album as well as a music video and a dance game. On August 18, 2007, the band shot the video for the second single from their album, "Toma Mi Mano". The song was included on the soundtrack for the Mexican film "Hasta El Viento Tiene Miedo". On September 12, 2007, it was reported that the album had sold over 50,000 copies in just three days in Mexico, which earned it Gold certification from AMPROFON. Promotion for the third single, "One, Two, Three, Go! (1, 2, 3, Go!)", began in summer 2008. The single received heavy airplay amongst Mexican pop radio stations. The music video was released on July 10, premiering on MTV. The band ended as the most played act in Mexico in 2008 with the single "Cada Que..." topping the Year-End Charts "Paso El Tiempo" was released as the final single off the album, coinciding with the release of the band's second live album, Tour Fantasía Pop.

The album brought the group bigger success in foreign markets. They toured around Mexico, Ibero-America, and the United States. Belanova was named 'Best New Band' by Yahoo! Spain, following the release of the album in early 2008. "Baila Mi Corazón" reached the top of Spain's airplay charts, but album sales never took off. The album was certified Oro (Latin Gold) in the United States after selling over 100,000 copies and the band announced their first headlining tour across the United States with 20 dates. "One, Two, Three, Go! (1, 2, 3, Go!)" was featured as a free "Single of the Week" on the Apple iTunes music store in the United States, beginning the week of July 29.

In September 2008, the nominees for the Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2008 were announced, Belanova receiving the second highest amount of nominations along with Argentine band Babasónicos, with six nominations each, just behind the Colombian singer Juanes. Belanova was the most nominated Mexican act. The band was also nominated at the Lunas del Auditorio Nacional and the Latin Grammys.

Belanova- "Tus Ojos" (Your Eyes) Song from her first album "Cocktail"

Lyrics to Belanova's song "Tus Ojos" (Your Eyes)

" Watching your eyes

I can decipher the universe

The soft air, the blueness of the sky

finally I understand

that this world spins

that one day I would die

but with you...

(Chorus)

(uhhh, ahhhh, uhh, uhh)

and in this story

(uhhh, ahhhh, uhh, uhh)

time doesn't exist

because in your arms

I invented the universe

finally I understand

that the past and the future only exist today.

Watching your eyes

I can decipher the universe

the soft air, the blueness of the sky

finally I understand

that this world spins and that one day

I would die

but with you...

(Chorus)

(uhhh, ahhhh, uhh, uhh)

and in this story

(uhhh, ahhhh, uhh, uhh)

time doesn't exist

because in your arms

I invented the universe

finally I understand

that the past and the future only exist today.

(uhhhh, ahhh)

and today I love you...

and today I love you...

and today I love you...oh, oh, ohhh, ohh

and today I love you...oh, oh, ohhh, ohh"

Belanova- "Baila Mi Corazon" (My Heart Dances)

Lyrics to Belanova's "Baila Mi Corazon" (My Heart Dances)

" What we have is not a game

I can decipher it

in the wheel of love

you have to win.

Doesn't matter what they think

What others opinions are

because what makes me feel

is what makes me fly

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

I know that its love.

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

This is love.

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

I know that this is love

My heart dances

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

This is love.

Your skin is flourescent

Shines in my darkness

In this party for two

I want to dance.

The moon and the stars

take me to you

I can only be happy

if you're here.

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

I know that it is love.

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

This is love.

My heart dances

My heart dances

Dance for both of us

I know that it is love."

Belanova- "Rosa Pastel" (Pink Pastel)

Lyrics to Belanova's "Rosa Pastel" (Pink Pastel)

" If I wanted to be that women

The mother of your kids

And together walk to the altar

directly to death

And finally, without talking

We both destroyed ourselves

And at the end

me and you don't exist anymore.

No, no I don't want to be that women

She went away

And you are not the one who promised.

Would be my superhero and what

Everything finished, nothing's left

We would be two strangers

I would forget you, and you would forget me

Forever.

And where is that button

that takes you to happiness

moon of honey, pink pastel

cliches and stupidity

And finally, without talking

We both destroyed ourselves

And at the end

me and you don't exist anymore.

No, no I don't want to be that women

She went away

And you are not the one who promised

It would be my superhero

Would be my superhero and what

Everything finished, nothing's left

We would be two strangers

I would forget you, and you would forget me

Forever."

Lyrics to "La Chica Dorada" (The Golden Girl) 1992

" Uuuu, Uuuuuuu

bad times were running

for Rock n' Roll

Oooboompop

The stars of television shinned

Ooooboompop.

I had a lot to study,

and they never stopped dreaming.

Oh the golden girl,

Oh the golden girl,

Oh the golden girl, yeh.

Rebel people,

almost a hurricane,

Ooooboompop

Made crazy the playground,

whenever she started dancing

Ooooboompop.

School was her obligation

The music was in her heart.

Oh the golden girl,

Oh the golden girl,

Oh the golden girl, yeh.

To get to heaven

And to sit by the clouds

uuuuuuu,boompop

To get from being Cinderella,

to the color magazines,

we have to succeed

Nobody gave it to me as a gift.

Oh the golden girl,

Oh the golden girl,

Oh the golden girl, yeh.

I passed through college

like an airplane

Ooooboompop

And like that my body changed

I met love

Ooooboompop

It was worth fighting,

and I can say that in the end.

I'm the golden girl,

I'm the golden girl,

I'm the golden girl, yeh."

Paulina Rubio- "Ni Una Sola Palabra" (Not Another Word)

Lyrics to Paulina Rubio's song "Ni Una Sola Palabra" (Not Another Word)

" You're yelling, I know that he doesn't find out

the heart listens to your head

but were are you going

are you listening to me

what's left of your pride

that we have left

The night starts and with it in my way

I find you alone with my best dress

but where are you

what is it that has happened

what is there left after all of these years

I watch his eyes that one day looked at me

I find your lips, your hands, your hugs

but you don't feel nothing

and you disguise yourself in cordiality.

Not another word

neither gestures or looks that used to passionate me

neither a trace of your kisses that you used to give me

until dawn.

Neither one of those smiles

in which every night and everyday

sobbed these eyes

in the ones that you look like.

Like a toy that hits a mural

I go out to find you and I get lost

In time when I find

an opportunity, a miracle, a potion

turn myself beautiful and you beautiful with me.

In front of those eyes that one day looked at me

I put my back and a few steps

and I aim another defeat

meanwhile my mouth says: "Never again more."

Not another word

neither gestures or looks that used to passionate me

neither a trace of your kisses that you used to give me

until dawn.

Neither one of those smiles

in which every night and everyday

sobbed these eyes

in the ones that you look like.

It can't be

I'm not me

My heart weighs a lot

for not being ice when the sky calls me for patience.

Not another word

neither gestures or looks that used to passionate me

neither a trace of your kisses that you used to give me

until dawn.

Neither one of those smiles

in which every night and everyday

sobbed these eyes

in the ones that you look like.

Words."

Paulina Rubio- "Causa Y Efecto" (Cause and Effect)

Paulina Rubio's Lyrics to "Causa Y Efecto" (Cause and Effect)

" You want to governate my heart

My silence and my breathing

You think that neither in my dreams, I would be able to live without you

I tell you right now, it doesn't work that way.

You lie if you act like your so special

You dream that you're turning me into a cristal

run quickly kilometers from here

Today its my turn to say goodbye.

You know, that even though you acted perfect,

by the law of cause and effect

today you pay for each error

Look, that my love lights up

and makes you feel cold

Like an illusion that spies you

and I roll you for amusement

Oooh.

Change of strategy

Please

That I don't get along well with pain

I believe in, the energy, that moves in spirals

and living in war makes me bad.

You know, that even though you acted perfect,

by the law of cause and effect

today you pay for each error

Look, that my love lights up

and makes you feel cold

Like an illusion that spies you

and I roll you for amusement

Oooh.

In this battle of skin vs. skin

I spin quickly and strong

and you got to lose.

eventhough you acted perfect,

by the law of cause and effect

today you pay for each error

Look, that my love lights up

and makes you feel cold

Like an illusion that spies you

and I roll you for amusement.

You know, that even though you acted perfect,

by the law of cause and effect

today you pay for each error."

Paulina Rubio- "The Quise Tanto" (I Loved You Alot)

Lyrics to Paulina Rubio's song "The Quise Tanto" (I Loved You A lot)

" Water that fell from the sea

I can't live in this reality

Oh how hard is it for me to understand,

that I don't have a drop of life without you.

Alone in the darkness, in my room where nobody else fits

there is only your voice that hits me in my head

and nothing else can silence it.

I loved you a lot that I knew how to give my whole spirit to you

I loved you a lot that I never listened to what other people were saying about me

I loved you a lot that to forget you a life is not in reach anymore, what's left

to loose hope to be around the world looking for you.

He left everything loose, that you won't be with me until dawn

its impossible to go on,

my punishment is to look back.

More that I don't know how to love, because I can't love anybody else anymore

I have your caresses tatooed on my chest

and now nothing can erase it.

I loved you a lot that I knew how to give my whole spirit to you

I loved you a lot that I never listened to what other people were saying about me

I loved you a lot that to forget you a life is not in reach anymore, what's left

to loose hope to be around the world looking for you.

I loved you a lot that to forget you a life is not in reach anymore, what's left

to loose hope to be around the world looking for you.

I loved you a lot that I knew how to give my whole spirit to you

I loved you a lot that I never listened to what other people were saying about me

I loved you a lot that to forget you a life is not in reach anymore, what's left

to loose hope to be around the world looking for you."

6. Luis Miguel

Love his amazing and powerful voice. At such young age he had a really high and beautiful but at the same time powerful voice, plus his lyrics and songs are so romantic.

Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri (April 19, 1970) is a Mexican singer. He is widely known only by the name Luis Miguel. An icon in the Spanish-speaking countries, he is often referred to as "El Sol de México" (The Sun of Mexico) or simply "El Sol" (The Sun).

Beginning his musical career in his childhood, Luis Miguel has won five Grammys and four Latin Grammys among other numerous awards. He is considered as one of the top male pop vocalists in the world nowadays. His contribution to Latin pop music, along with his hermetic personal life, has made him a global figure of Latin music for almost three decades. He debuted on the professional music at 11 years old. At the age of fifteen, Luis Miguel received his first Grammy for his duet "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres" (I Like You Just The Way You Are) with Sheena Easton. In 1991, the RIAA gave him a recognition for the high sales of the albums Romance and Segundo Romance. Luis Miguel is the only Latin artist to have two Spanish-language albums (Romance and Segundo Romance) go platinum in the USA. He has achieved a long string of distinctions. Also among those was having his album Luis Miguel achieve gold and platinum certifications in four countries, including the United States, within just three days of its release.

Luis Miguel- "1+1=2 Enamorados" (1+1=2 Lovers) 1981

Lyrics to Luis Miguel's song "1+1=2 Enamorados" (1+1=2 Lovers)

" I want, you look at me, and you know that I like you

and I roll myself in your hair and I like you

In your hands I feel your warmth

of this same life.

I want, when I love you I know that I like you

I'm the fire that comes all the way to the sky

and I cover you and I feel you, we're already two,

two lovers.

We're two, two lovers

of a sweet love, free and clear

dreaming we go little by little

closing the world between our hands.

We're two, two lovers

that give everything with soul

wind and sea, furry unleashed

that in the end they merge into one soul.

Da da da da

Da da da da

Da da da da

I want, when I love you I know that I like you

I'm the fire that comes all the way to the sky

and I cover you and I feel you, we're already two,

two lovers.

We're two, two lovers

that give everything with soul

wind and sea, furry unleashed

that in the end they merge into one soul."

Luis Miguel Featuring Sheena Easton- "Me Gustas Tal Y Como Eres" (I Like You Just the Way You Are

Lyrics to Luis Miguel's song "Me Gustas Tal Y Como Eres" (I Like You Just the Way You Are)

" Talking of you

Talking of me

I don't know from what world you come from

from a world of love

in the one where me and you

are not there because you don't want to

Talking of you

Talking of me

Would like to love you

But between me and you

love is prohibited

I love you just the way you are

Talking of you

Talking of me

We are not so different

But between me and you

love is prohibited

I love you just the way you are

Talking of you

Talking of me

I know that you don't like me

You know that

Friendship or Love

But please don't play

Talking of you

Talking of me

Would like to love you

But between me and you

Love is prohibited

I love you just the way you are

Talking of you

Talking of me

We are not so different

But between me and you

Love is prohibited

I love you just the way you are

Talking of you

Talking of me

I would like for you to advise me

what can I do

If my heart

likes you just the way you are."

Luis Miguel- "Decidete" (Decide)

Lyrics to Luis Miguel's song "Decidete" (Decide) 1983

"We're left alone

Everybody has left

and in my room there was barely

light in a corner

I kissed you on the face

I kissed you on the lips

You felt fear

and you looked at me without talking

Decide, don't doubt it anymore

Decide, I can't resist

not having you

damn my luck.

Simply, my love decide

decide

and lets fly through far away lands

both of us with our hands together, decide

Like every night

I continue to accompany you

at nine-thirty

I bring you back to your mom

Then alone at home

looking at your photo

I dream of your eyes

and in silence without your love

Decide."

Hi, this is a good Hub, very informative and good audio and visual support. I am trying to do something similar with the Argetine Tango, but I am researching the older forms, there is not so much audio available there, except YouTube, which at the moment is a risk due to Google copyright situations. Maybe you would like to look at my two Hubs on Latin music? I enjoyed yours very much!
