Romantic Comedies

Who doesn't enjoy a lovely romantic comedy? Well I know the ladies sure do :) I love the feeling of watching the people in the movie end up together in the end, it makes me happy. I sit there watching with a huge goofy smile on my face because it's so cute. I also enjoy these movies for their funny side. I love a good laugh and I couldn't think of a better combination than romance and comedy rolled into one, so I've put together my list of favourites:

Jerry Maguire - Starring Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger this is one of the best! Who can forget the lines: "SHOW ME THE MONEY" and "You had me at hello" Brilliant movie. A movie about figuring out if you are really in love.

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days - Starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey this is a hilarious film about a woman who is writing an article for the magazine she works for about how to lose a guy in ten days. She tells her boss that she will date a man and do all the wrong things that women do in relationships and write an article on her experience. The guy she finds is also on a mission to make a woman fall in love with him in ten days. He tells his boss it's possible and will bring whoever she is to the upcoming ball. Kate Hudson is so funny in this movie, every time I watch it I'm laughing so hard at the ridiculous things that she says and does. In the end they really fall in love with each other and it's lovely!!

The Wedding Date - This is about a single woman who broke up with her fiancee and doesn't want to go to her sisters' wedding alone. She calls an escort who she meets in the plane on the way. Of course he turns out to be gorgeous and such a gentleman. The whole time they pretend to her family that they are an actual couple and everyone believes them. The bestman at the wedding is her ex fiancee so she tries to make him jealous. It's a great movie.

Love Actually - All the love, comedy and drama stories you could want rolled into one with a number of famous celebrities in it. This movie shows different love stories with all their ups and downs. Some end in heart ache, others end in happiness. It's a fantastic movie all about love that is set around Christmas time. It also has some great songs played through it.

Someone Like You - I love this movie every time I see it and I think it gets funnier each time too. The main characters are played by Ashley Judd, Greg Kinnear and Hugh Jackman. It tells the story of a woman falling in love with the wrong person and then ending up finding love with the one who she always thought was the wrong man. I think this movie is trying to prove that love can happen when and where you least expect it. I recommend this one.

My Best Friends Wedding - This one is definitely a favourite. It is about a woman (Julia Roberts) and her best friend who is the man (Dermot Mulroney) that she is in love with. He is about to get married to a lady who is played by Cameron Diaz. It tells the story of how hard being in love with your best friend is and the lengths that she goes to to try to ruin their plans and have him for herself.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Full of laughs and great characters, this film is about an actress named Sarah Marshall who breaks up with her long time boyfriend Peter, for a rockstar who is played by Russell Brand. After the break up Peter decides to go to Hawaii for a holiday and it turns out that Sarah and her new lover are at the resort as well. Peter meets a lovely girl who works there and starts to hang out with her. Sarah then tries to get Peter back...who will he choose? Starring Jason Segal and Kristen Bell, this will have you in tears of laughter.

Bruce Almighty - Starring Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston shows the story of a couples stuggle through times of stress. Bruce gets a chance to play god and does some ridiculous things along the way to try to get his job back as a news reporter, which is hilarious but loses his love along the way. He tries to get her back using his gift but will she take him back?? This is such a funny movie.

Bridget Jones's Diary - The main character of Bridget is played by the one and only Renee Zellweger and what a perfect perfomance by her. Bridget is in her early 30's, she's still single and she's worried about her weight. She is forever fantasising about her boss (Hugh Grant) but then meets Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) at a Christmas party. At first they don't like each other. Bridget then decides to lose weight, quit smoking and find a man. She had no idea that she would ever be juggling two. A movie about three being a crowd and figuring out who the right one is for you. It's full of funny and entertaining moments.

Some other fantastic romantic comedies: Ever After, 10 Things I Hate About You, There's Something About Mary, The Wedding Singer, Pretty In Pink, Pretty Woman, Six Days Seven Nights, Never Been Kissed, She's All That, Notting Hill, Serendipity, Something's Gotta Give, The Sweetest Thing, Along Came Polly, Hitch, Monster-In-Law, Wedding Crashers, Knocked Up, Dan In Real Life.

I am a guy and I like romantic comedies. Perhaps that makes me weird but I think they are great while cuddling with my wife and eating ice cream.

I came across your hub searching for some ideas for Valentine's Day. I will have to check on How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days and The Wedding Date. I think there are a number of spin-offs from The Wedding Date out there so it must be a good theme to follow. My favorite romantic movie is No Reservations with Kathyrn Zeta Jones. It is simple but so well done. You just can't beat sitting down to watch a movie with a cup of tea. I also make the same expressions as you while watching the movies and my husband just smiles. Great hub!
