My Thoughts on a Shot at Love with Tila Tequila

My Rant

You turn on MTV (which I don’t recommend) and you can probably find a show called A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila playing on it. Tila Tequila is the star of this reality show. She is trying to find love and has to have a reality show to do it. She gets 32 contestants and by the process of elimination, she picks her soul mate.

That sounds like a good willed show. A person is just trying to find love and we get to share in the joyous discovery of love. The problem is the presentation of all of this. The overall quality of the show is terrible. I think that this show is one on the worst things I have ever seen.

I watch a lot of television. I mean A LOT! Ever since I was young I would plop myself down and watch anything on television. So I think I am a connoisseur of television programming. Shows like Sesame Street, Beakman’s World, and Nova documentaries were brain builders for me growing up. Cartoons like Eek the Cat, Tiny Toons, The Simpsons, and others were funny to watch. Old comedies like The Three Stooges made me laugh and made me respect the brashness of physical comedy. The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune was entertaining. Primetime TV like Arrested Development, Three’s Company, Scrubs, and many others are fantastic. Love Adult swim and Comedy Central programs. Heck I liked Survivor when it first came out. I like many forms of TV like drama, comedy, cartoon, romance, kung fu, Sci-fi, horror, and reality. So when I gave A Shot at love, I thought it would be good. I was wrong though.

One problem I have is with the contests in the show. Why do the contestants always have to perform in contests? I know it’s to be entertaining but it takes away from the true purpose of the show, which is finding love. They make the contestants parade around in skimpy outfits for Tila to judge or some other bizarre thing. I don’t really think that’s trying to find love. I think that’s parading flesh to bone, pardon my brashness please. Basically I think they should call it A Shot of Lust.

I have a big problem with the premise of the show. That being that she gets sixteen straight guys and sixteen lesbians. Tila has her choice of a man or lady to be her next love interest. I have nothing against gay people. What I find most unsettling is that she has so many people in the same house. It looks like a house of sin. It also makes me think of an orgy when I see so many men and females in shorts and bikinis running around. How is that good to show on television? I don’t want children and teens to watch this and think its ok to do these things.

I have problems with the contestants themselves. They always pick the ones that cause trouble. Or maybe they cut the film to make it look like that. Whatever the case, it is still bad. The men are always drunk asses that are too macho for their own good. There is always a fight somewhere in the season when testosterone gets out of control. The women are no better. There was one memorable fight with two female contestants brawling it out during elimination (as seen below in the video). Both sexes are flaunting what God gave them with a house full of booze and it’s a little sickening. Again, I don’t see any good coming from this.

The last main problem is with Tila Tequila her self. She is always walking around with her breasts and bum hanging out of her clothes. She always is telling the viewer that she wants love and sick of being alone. How can you find true love if your always making out with different people every now and than. I don’t think she is a good role model for young women. Young men watching her are going to believe that women are sex objects as Tila Tequila shows.

This reality show has many problems. Its sexual overtones and lousy premise is for a terrible show in my eyes. Here is something else that might be true. There are rumors that she might not be actually bisexual. It was all an act to fool the viewer. Even more of an accusation was that she had a boyfriend during the first season. The link below has some more details. It makes sense why there is another season of this and why she didn’t stay with the “winner” of the show. It adds another layer of deceit if this comes out to be true. I can’t really condone shows like these. The show promotes sexual promiscuity and letting your inhibitions come loose. MTV has the habit of creating shows like this. I think that we should not watch this show. Instead, turn it to a show that took time to write and actors that do it for a living. Not some loud mouth jerk that knows nothing more than to party. Thanks for reading my thoughts.
