New DVD Releases for October 2010
It's October, in a few short weeks it will be Halloween and as you would expect amongst the new DVD releases for this month are some special versions of classic horrors. But for those who prefer comedy over horror will find a few new DVD releases to suit your tastes. Plus for those wanting a nice family movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon, well there's some new DVD releases to suit you too.
Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) (1991)

Set in a small French village towards the end of the 18th century, "Beauty and the Beast" follows the adventures of Belle, an intelligent young woman who finds rest bite from her mundane life, and the advances of the amorous Gaston, by burying her head in books. But, in a not too far away castle, a cruel prince is placed under a spell by a witch who turns him into a beast and transforming his staff into household objects. For the spell to be removed, the Beast must find true love, someone who loves him for what he is before the last petal drops from an enchanted flower. When Belle's eccentric father discovers the Beast's castle and is taken captive, Belle comes to his rescue and agrees to take his place.

Having arrived in China from Detroit to hopefully start a new, Sherry and her 12 year old son Dre discover that there is a lot that they need to learn quickly about their new home. When Dre innocently flirts with a local girl he finds himself on the end of regular beatings from the neighbourhood bullies which soon come to the attention of local handyman Mr. Han. Taking Dre under his wing he starts to teach him how to fight using kung fu but also the respect which the martial art demands. With the prospect of facing those neighbourhood bullies at a tournament Dre with the help of Mr. Han must learn to control his fears and trust in the wisdom of his mentor.

Whilst temporarily staying in Washington D.C. a movie actress is having a series of issues including a poor script for her new film and an ex husband who manages to forget to phone up and speak to his daughter on her birthday. But her biggest issue is her daughter Regan who has gone from a polite little girl to a vile being changing physically and behaviourally. It is through Regan that she meets Father Karras, a priest struggling with his faith and Father Merrin who having just returned from his foreign travels new evil was on it's way. It soon becomes apparent that Regan is not sick but has become possessed by a demon which needs exorcising.

In a small Illinois town, a group of teenagers are being plagued by nightmares where they come up against a man with a razor glove. Unfortunately these nightmares are more real than normal and some of these teenagers mysterious die in their sleep. Nancy, one of these poor teenagers, decides that she must learn who this man is who is terrifying her and her friends in their sleep, discovering not only that he is called Freddy Krueger but he is connected to each of the victims in someway. Unable to get the help she wants from her parents, Nancy and friend Quentin decide there is only one thing for it they must take Freddy on themselves.

The result of their secretive experiments leads them to Dren a beautiful creature with amazing abilities. But as Dren rapidly grows and learns her existence becomes a nightmare.

A long time ago on the island of Berk, a community of Vikings spend their time preparing for war against aggressive dragons. For young Hiccup it is expected that he also trains for war as he is the son of the Vikings leader Stoick. But Hiccup is not a fighter and when he discovers an injured dragon not only befriends it but teaches it to fly. Hiccup soon realises that unlike his father he has a way with the dragons. But when through Hiccup, Stoick discovers a huge nest of dragons he leads his band of Vikings into attack, leaving Hiccup and the dragon he helped to try and stop what could be a catastrophe.

After turning on Turnbull his superior, Jonah Hex is not only branded across the cheek but also sees his family murdered. Left for dead, Hex is discovered by Native Americans who nurse him back to help and at the same time give him the ability of communing with the dead. Recovered, Hex becomes a bounty hunter and finds his services called upon by President Grant who aware that Turnbull is building a weapon of mass destruction wants Hex to stop him. On his way to try and stop Turnbull Hex finds himself becoming distracted by a shapely whore who appears to see the kind gentle man still inside of Hex.

Chosen for his skills as a mercenary, Royce finds himself dropped onto a jungle planet with a mismatch group including killers, gang members and a doctor. It doesn't take long for Royce to realise that they are in some sort of games reserve and are the trophies for a bunch of Alien Predators. In order to survive Royce decides to try and lead this mismatched bunch not only in a way of killing these Predators but also in finding a way off of the planet.

Following a midday liaison with her lover Sam, real estate secretary Marion Crane returns to work and finds herself trusted with $40,000 in cash. Unable to resist the temptation she takes the money and leaves the city hoping to use it to build a new life for herself and Sam. But after driving long and hard for a couple of days she decides to stop of at the Bates Motel where she meets the young owner Norman Bates who lives with his domineering mother in the old house with overlooks the motel. When Marion’s absence is noticed not only does her boss hire a detective to try and track her down but her sister Lili and Sam also set about trying to find the missing Marion.
