Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
In 2007 Paranormal Activity took most American’s by storm with its haunted house story and unique filming style. Four years later Paranormal Activity 3 is out and ready to scare you even more.
Paranormal Activity 3 is a prequel to Paranormal Activity 2 which was a Prequel to the first film. The movie introduces us to Julie (Lauren Bittner) and Dennis (Nicholas Smith), whom are the parents of a young Katie (Chloe Csengery) and Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown). After an earthquake and some eerie occurrences, Dennis begins recording their house and that’s when he discoveries that his house might be haunted.
Just like the last two films in the series Paranormal Activity 3 starts off slow and steady but quickly rakes up the tension. The difference this time around is that the events take a much darker turn then then the last two. Unlike the last two entries Paranormal Activity leans toward the more malevolence side of the paranormal world. Where in the first two the hauntings didn't seem as malicious or dangerous.
In order to create an atmosphere realism the actors needed to act as a real family and one that is easy to root for and that's exactly what you get. The cast are all great in their roles and aren’t as obnoxious as the last two families. They are just an everyday family who so happen to be living in a haunted house. It's easy to relate to them and put ourselves into their shoes and that' why there misadventure is so horrifying,
Paranormal activity 3 lives up to its name and delivers a slew of scares that will have you looking around your bedroom at night. Although if you didn’t like the last two films in the series chances are you’re not going to like this one as it doesn’t detract from its formula and tends to raise a lot more questions than it answers. Hopefully the filmmakers can keep their mythology growing with part 4 and not lose track of what makes this series unique and scary. Recommended if you liked the last two films or if you just like a good haunted house story, 3 ½ out of 5.
