Ponderings: On Peace

Project Good Words

My Inspiration

In 2014, Jo_Goldsmith11 took it upon herself to initiate the Light2Love Project Good Words.

Jo pledged to use good words and publish articles used to empower, encourage, support and defend those who need to be shown love.

Jo offered us a good word for each week to focus our thoughts, behaviors and actions on...In the 6th week, Jo wrote her perspective on the word peace.

However, as 2014 came to an end, Jo filed away her Good Word articles - as she begins the process of publishing it in e-book'. Shyron E. Shenko continues to write a beautiful poem to accompany each Good Word to inspire and lead us.

The ripple effect of the Good Words Project throughout the HubVille community has been heartwarming.

Please join me with some of my musical thoughts and reflections on the word peace...

Peace in Music

I treasure my personal feeling of inner peace, probably because I didn't always have it. Over the years, I've come to see that I am solely responsible for this feeling.

As a lifetime companion, music has assisted me in finding and maintaining my sense of inner calm.

Instrumental musicians like Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Andreas Vollenweider feel like a healing balm to my sore muscles and racing mind after a long day, restoring peace once more.

Certain musical artists...Annie Lennox, Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz... cry out in their lyrics for us to show peace to each other and our Mother Earth.

I've selected a few of my favorite songs where peace is the plea.

How about you? Are there any songs or lyrics that bring PEACE to you...like these do for me? If so, please share YOURS in the comment section below... thanks, mar!

Call for Peace in Lyrics

You may say I’m a dreamer - But I’m not the only one - I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one (1)... Oh I’ve been smiling lately dreaming about the world as one - And I believe it could be some day, it’s going to come (2)... Now stood beside the treasure on the mountain dark and red - Turned the stone and looked beneath it - ‘Peace on Earth’ was all it said (3)... What have we’ve done to the world - Look what we've done (4)...

Michael Jackson: Earth Song (powerful but graphic video)

Lyrics Pondering Peace

You see war is not the answer - For only love can conquer hate - You know we’ve got to find a way - To bring some lovin’ here today (5)... A time of love, a time of hate - A time of war, a time of peace - A time you may embrace - A time to refrain from embracing (6)... We got to have joy - True in our hearts - With strength we can't destroy (7)... Here it is once again in our face - Why haven't we learned from our past - We're at the crossroads of our human race (8)... Well we've taken more - Than everything we need (9)...

Eurythmics: Peace Is Just A Word

Lyrical Reflections of Peace

Yes, how many times can a man turn his head pretending he just doesn't see? (10) ... Come on people now, smile on your brother (11)... All we are sayin' is (12)...

Tangerine Dream: Light of Creation

Artist - Song - Words about Peace

John Lennon - Imagine (1); Cat Stevens - Peace Train (2); Joan Baez - Tin Soldier (3); Michael Jackson - Earth Song (4); Marvin Gaye - What's Going On (5); The Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn (6); Curtis Mayfield - We Got To Have Peace (7); Lenny Kravitz - We Want Peace (8); Eurythmics - Peace Is Just A Word (9); Bob Dylan - Blowin' in the Wind (10); The Youngbloods - Get Together (11); John Lennon - Give Peace A Chance (12); Tangerine Dream - Light of Creation (13)

Passing the Baton of Peace

Have you ever had a friend that you feel as though you've known forever? Shauna Bowling (bravewarrior) is one of those friends for me.

We met two years ago when I was doing my interview series. I related to so many of her answers to my questions, especially this one:

The times I feel most relaxed ... "I love sitting outside. I have a little bistro set on my front porch and a gazebo with an adjacent outside living room I've created on my back porch. My property is abundant with trees. I love to have my morning coffee outside and watch Mother Nature's world wake up. I have hawks, red-headed woodpeckers, owls, hummingbirds, butterflies, squirrels, racoons, opossums, armadillos, bats.... so much nature at my feet! Evenings are nice too. I love the sound of the night bugs singing in the trees."

This sounds like a perfect description of peace to me.

For Shauna, peace is a mindset and a lifestyle.

Her writing, whether fiction or fact, is always true to her passionate heart and the ongoing quest for peace, both in ourselves and our Mother Earth.

As Sha's friend, I feel total love, support and acceptance from her, even the few times that we have respectfully disagreed. She has taken time to call, offering me specific information and plenty of love after a recent physical injury. Her inner being exudes both enthusiasm and peacefulness to me... and it works!!

I didn't have to think twice when contemplating who to pass the baton of peace to... I'm ever so grateful that Shauna accepted when I asked! Take your time in writing your hub... You are worth the wait!

In signing off, I will copy after Sha... Peace, mar

Mar, great music choices. Michael Jackson's video is one of my favorites. You can hear the tears in his heart and words in his plea to stop the destruction of Mother Earth.

I am honored to take the baton for Project Good Words Peace. Thank you for thinking of me. I love you dearly, my friend!

What a lovely, peaceful hub! The songs, too, are beautiful.

Sha is a pretty combination of bravery and peace. She is indeed one of 'those' friends we have known forever. How I would love to have a cup of coffee with her in that beautiful garden, listening to the songs of all those birds.

Way to go with this series of yours, Mar! You are opening a 'whole new world' through music.

Mar, you've chosen a gifted writer to carry on the baton of peace. This was a beautiful hub. I loved the videos, esp. Michael Jackson, it was difficult to watch but so worth the time, oh how I miss him not being on this earth. I love the way you use lyrics to convey a message of peace, just beautiful! Love and peace my dear friend...

Now peace is a word that certainly needs more attention and more honor. Mar your thoughts on peace resound with your music selections. Your ability to turn lyrics from different tunes to a meaningful message displays your immersion into the musical world.

Nice to see the baton passed onto such a worthy writer as bravewarrior.

Maria my dear, you passed the baton to a good one. I look forward to Sha's response. Peace, for me, is inner. It took a long time for me to find it, but now it is with me always. You chose some great songs and lyrics...isn't music soothing? I'm writing an article right now about the Beatles...and I am smiling all the way through it.

love,

bill

Martie, Thank you for such gracious comments about this series and our dear Sha...I always smile when you stop by in these very busy times for you.

Thanks, Jim, you are a good pal - always thinking of you.

Mike, "Immersion in music"...love that! You have a way with words and a way of being sweet too!

I love this hub, this word, and your choice of to whom to pass the baton!

You asked for music which soothes my soul, peaceably. I find I have far too many artists and songs which do that for me, but many of them happen to belong to Rod McKuen's countless songs and poems, sung or recited in his gentle sort of raspy voice which is peaceable itself.

I fell in love with his poetry in the 1960s and collected all his books of poetry. It was like a voice from the heart, a great comfort to me in rather difficult times. Then when I began finding the LPs with him actually singing and reciting his works, it was beyond wonderful.

He broke the precedent that poetry can't be successful commercially. He wrote background music for several movies, and he delivered his works in concerts all over the world. He has his own publishing company, and has left his mark on countless folks over many decades. He also sings some songs written by others and I especially love his “What A Wonderful World” of that genre.

What a wonderful world - http://youtu.be/S9hgelVS-0I

I could list so many of his here but I'll choose a few to share which seem most to relate to peace, though, to me, they all do! Just visiting any one of these would open up Utube for many others of his songs, if anyone else would ike to investigate his work.

He's an earth-person, animal lover and sensitive soul. He’s a romantic; and sometimes he's a little wistful and nostalgic, but that is how life is, isn't it? Now he's grown much older, of course; and he’s still delivering his music and poetry so wonderfully well, always keeping up with the times. It remains relevant.

"I'll Catch The Sun" - http://youtu.be/oRRnFvw24rA

"The Tender Earth" - http://youtu.be/R5lqLRAOkbo

"A Cat Named Sloopy" - http://youtu.be/16q_h00prtI

"Mr. Kelly and Me" (his dog & himself) - http://youtu.be/-iGPEAnPmhA

Thank you, Maria for your beautiful work and music selections you shared and for the opportunity to respond.

Oh, Maria, thank your for sharing your beautiful reflections and music choices on the "Good Word" of Peace ... just reading your wonderful peaceful hub and listening has given me a sense of peace after this long Monday. True peace is surely hard to attain in this life with all it (life) throws at us.

For so many years I did not have peace, and now that I do, my sleep is so sweet indeed. Thank you for this beautiful series on the "Good Words" started by dear Jo and now continuing on far and wide all around HP Town and beyond.

Sha is such a wonderful choice here for she is a fine example of having peace in one's life no matter what trials she has faced and she continues to bless many with a loving heart and her wisdom.

Up ++++ tweeting, pinning, G+ and sharing

Love you!

Ah, birds and nature, how peaceful to share your morning with the trees on your wonderful porch. Sounds delightful. I was part of the love generation where Peace was a greeting as we flashed a peace sign to one another. It brings back such sweet times to hear these songs. Give Peace a Chance, hop on board the Peace Train, Imagine.

Hi dear friends,

Nellieanna, Love your detailed comment and beautiful choices you have shared with us. I have recently become familiar with Rod McKuen, as one of my dear friends loves him as you do...what an example of the music in poetry.

Faith, I am so happy this hub brought you some peace after a long day. I'm so glad that your days are now filled with peace, as is your sleep.

Peg, So delighted that this piece brought back sweet memories for you of peace. These songs are classic and always inspire me as well.

Happy to see you, Gail, and I know when Sha's schedule permits...we will greatly enjoy her perspective on PEACE.

Hoping you all have a good night. Love and hugs, Maria

Maria, this just beautiful, I am so glad you passed the baton to Shauna, she will do justice to your challenge.

When I think of Peace and music I think of Elvis Presley singing "Peace In The Valley, or Our Lady Peace - Won't Turn Back (Official Music Video)

Voted-up, UABI, and shared

Hi Maria--this is beautiful. I love music and find solace and inspiration in it often, both in the lyrics I hear and sing and in the music itself. Music can unite and express at a very deep level. Thank you!

Audrey, Thanks for your insightful and astute thoughts, which I agree with so much.

Hi Maria...

Beautiful article! I was taken by Tangerine Dream, “Light of Creation” having never heard it before. It is deeply reflective and peaceful. John Lennon’s’ “Imagine” is my favorite from your list. Peace is the absence of fear…something our current world needs so much more of! This noble series should be read by many. Your passing of the baton to bravewarrior is a wonderful choice. Thank you Maria, for being you. Hugs. :-)

Hi Genna,

I had the pleasure of seeing Tangerine Dream in concert back in the late 1980s and they put on a heckuva wonderful show. I am always so happy to see you and wish you a lovely week, my dear friend. Hugs, Maria
