Kerry Washington has appeared in over 30 feature films and has played numerous roles in television series. She was born in the Bronx in 1977 the only child of professional parents; her mother was a professor and her father was a real estate agent. From middle school to the end of high school, Kerry Washington attended the elite Spence School, and later graduated from George Washington University with degrees in anthropology and sociology.
While in college, Kerry Washington also studied theater and appeared in two television productions: Magical Make-Over and Standard Deviants, an educational program.
She returned to New York to study at the Michael Howard Studios. In 2001 she landed her first major role as Chenille in Save the Last Dance, also starring Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas.
