Popular Movie Soundtracks

Sing along soundtracks we'll never forget © Sarah Masson 2011

Most of us adore watching movies but what is it that makes a movie really special and memorable? The reasons that come to mind are the actors/actress's, storyline, emotional or action packed scenes and likeable characters. But if we really think about it long and hard, it's the music that makes movies better. Picture some of your favourite movie scenes and take away the song playing in the background. It might still be a great scene but you are not going to feel anywhere near as emotional as you would with that exact song playing. Music moves us and takes us to another place. Music can tell a story within itself. Imagine if there was no music whatsoever $6 in the movies that we loved, no music playing and no singing by the people in the films. Picture Bridget Jones with her All By Myself sing along and her air drum solo or Lainey in She's All That coming down there stairs with no Kiss Me playing in the background, it just wouldn't be the same! So I've made a list of some of the best and most popular soundtracks in no particular order, enjoy :)

GREASE - This is a hugely popular one, everyone knows at least a few songs from this amazing musical/movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. With songs such as: Greased Lightnin, Summer Nights, You're The One That I want and Hopelessy Devoted makes it a fantastic soundtrack. These songs are also great for karaoke.

The Wedding Singer - A hilarious movie set in the 80's starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, that can be watched over and over and gets funnier each time. It has an awesome soundtrack with some of the favourite songs being: You Spin Me Round, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and White Wedding just to name a few.

Almost Famous - A great film filled with amazing music including songs by David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart and The Beach Boys. The most memorable song in this movie is Tiny Dancer by Elton John, what a great scene.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Now who could forget this soundtrack? With songs like: The Time Warp, Science Fiction/Double Feature and Over At The Frankenstein Place. It's so out there but we've still got to love it.

Moulin Rouge - Starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, using their own voices in: Your Song, Come What May and One Day I'll Fly Away. An amazing movie musically and visually.

Across The Universe - This is one of my favourites. The movie is based around songs by The Beatles including hits such as: All My Loving, Let It Be, I Want To Hold Your Hand and With A Little Help From My Friends. This is a must see!!

The Lion King - A hugely popular Disney cartoon movie that still gets me every time, with catchy songs including: Can You Feel The Love Tonight, I Just Can't Wait To Be King, Circle Of Life and Hakuna Matata. A favourite for all ages.

Love Actually - So many lovely songs by great artists including: The Beach Boys, Eva Cassidy, Kelly Clarkson and Dido just to name a few. What a beautiful movie!!

Now & Then - A cute movie about a group of friends growing up. Has some great old songs in here: Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours, I Want You Back, Knock Three Times and No Matter What.

Dirty Dancing - Can't go wrong with this soundtrack. Hits such as: I've Had The Time Of My Life, Hungry Eyes and Be My Baby.

A few more top soundtracks:

Most of these are films I tend to stop to watch when I am channel surfing - regardless of whether or not I have missed the beginning. Cool hub!

Some great popular movie soundtracks in your list. Grease, Footloose, Dirty Dancing and The Lion King stand out for me, and one you don't have here: Mama Mia - it was pretty much my favourite movie until I saw Inception recently. Just one or two songs from Love Actually stand out for me, but what a great movie!
