Random thoughts and rants (My first edition)

One tired Pope
One tired Pope

Pope resigning...

I’m not sure why exactly it is a big deal that the Pope is resigning. I think retiring is a better word for it. I realize it has been like 600 years since a pope has taken such a measure, but REALLY it seems to me like the guy is being practical. He is 86 years old for gosh sakes! He said he is TIRED. Why not step down and let a younger, healthier fella give the popehood a go? I realize it is not steel work or high-voltage work being done, but there is a great responsibility at task. Millions and Millions of Catholics are depending on his leadership. I say good for him!

Squeeze the trigger, don't pull.
Squeeze the trigger, don't pull.

Gun Control...

Another thought…..Gun Control – The only gun control that we should be worried about is, actuallyteaching gun control.....That all that use them to use both hands, to squeeze the trigger, to know how to properly use the safety, to never point it at anything other than your target. That is about as far a gun control as there should be....REAL GUN CONTROL.

Maybe, just maybe, we should focus on Psycho Control. We have millions and millions of psycho’s running the streets on a daily basis. Maybe we should spend some time on “controlling” these folks from going all postal on innocent lives.

shhhhh. Maybe nobody heard me say that one.
shhhhh. Maybe nobody heard me say that one.

Okay, I have a small random rant……..

A few months after Obama took office he told us all the following…"I want you all to know, I will not rest until anybody who's looking for a job can find one -- and I'm not talking about just any job, but good jobs that give every American decent wages and decent benefits and a fair shot at the American Dream,"

Well not that I am counting but, here we are, FOUR years later (1246 days to be exact), and unemployment is higher NOW than it was when he made that statement. Also, he HAS rested! Much to my chagrin, he has taken nearly 2 months of vacation time. That is not counting the fact that he has played 100 rounds of GOLF! (This was, as of June of 2012, so it is much higher than that by now). That is FOUR times as many rounds of golf that Bush played in his EIGHT years of POTUS.

Now, I’m not saying that he may not deserve some time off, but it was HIS words, not mine. I think he IS resting, and he may NOT really be trying all that hard to get us those great jobs he promised. Just another thought to add, Bush CUT taxes…and our unemployment was at 4.2%....So, raising taxes on Americans may not be the ticket to earning some well-deserved rest….just sayin.

This chick has it going on!
This chick has it going on!

Now, moving on to the lighter side of my randomness….with a few thoughts

Is Carrie Underwood amazing or what? This girl, just a few short years ago was working at a dentist’s office. She was talked into trying out for American Idol. Now she has won 16 Billboard Music Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 11 CMA Awards and a two time Entertainer of the Year Award winner in the CMA’s. It goes on and on.

She can sing with AreoSmiths Steven Tyler, then do a perfect rendition of “How great thou art”. ( take a few minutes sometime and google this) She is about a beautiful as a young lady can get. She has a wonderful sense of humor and comedic timing as she cuts around with Brad Paisley on hosting duties for the CMA awards. She has earned over $66 million dollars with her singing talents.

Anyway, just a random thought or two about this gal….

Be on the lookout...

Also, how about the where-abouts of fellow hubber Feenix. Word is, that he is doing well, and may make a return here someday….but for those of you who follow on a regular basis, I for one, really miss that guy. I loved his hubs and the way he interacted.….just thought I would randomly pass that along.

Okay, enough for now, until I get my next urge to ramble on and on about random things.

God bless and see you on a hubpage soon.

Big to do over nothing about the Pope retiring. Good move as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to annoy some of my Liberal friends on gun control, but I would much rather see steps taken to help the mentally ill. We keep putting bandages over the cancer in this country, and until we realize what causes these problems we will continue to pay for them.

I enjoyed your rant, Chris, and yes, Underwood is amazing.

Chris, I loved this hub.

It is only our Politicians who seem to have the mistaken idea they are supposed to die on the job. Many of them retired years ago, but they keep coming to work anyhow.

It seems nobody in authority is willing to even talk about the mental health issue. No sir, it is guns that are the problem and that is what they will deal with. It will take several more generations before anyone is willing to admit that mental health is a problem in this country.

Surely you didn't believe any of that crap we were promised in the campaign speeches. Good paying jobs and plenty of them? I guess he is still working on this plan. There are things that take precedence over problem solving such as golf and vacations as you pointed out. In some ways, it might be better if he did just go on vacation and stay on vacation until the next election. Would we notice any difference?

I love Carrie Underwood.

Feenix along with many others of my favorite writers has been MIA for quite some time now. If they have found a better place to hang out I wish they would send us an invitation to join them.

Have a great rest of the week Chris.

Mike

Hi Chris,

Great Hub, my friend.

Here's a link to Carrie Underwood's 'How Great Thou Art:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLLMzr3PFgk

I sent Feenix an email last November, but no reply. I hope he's OK. He's a fine man.

Thanks Mr. Holland! You are right, we MUST fix the problem NOT with a band aid. That Carrie really is something isn't she?

Thanks for coming by.

Hi Will,

Does she just blow that song out of the water or what? People please take a minute to listen to Carrie Underwood sing that song, the link that Will just provided. It gives you goosebumps at the end! I promise.

Thanks Will...and you are also right about feenix, he IS a fine man. I miss him.

This is a good hub. Have missed Feenix hubs, also. He got everyone's blood boiling, which is a good quality for a writer. I too have noticed the disappearance of several regular hubbers. I wonder where they are and what they are doing?

Hellow Carolyn,

Feenix had a way with words, that's for sure! lol

I too, wonder where several hubbers have gone. Maybe that could be a hub. Lost hubbers, where are they?

Thanks for stopping by,

Chris

Awesome Hub...and idea to have a hub dedicated to rants...may I inquire if ranting is also allowed by followers, or is that privalage only for you? Again...always a pleasure. Great to hear that Feenix is cool...always grooved on his Hubs.

Hi gaeparks,

Absolutly, ranting is allowed as long as it stays civil. By all means rant away! lol.

Hey Chris - there you go again ranting and raving! I love it - good job.

Pope - its amusing to me that his "retirement" has thrown the Catholics into a panic - they don't know what to do. I was raised a Catholic and stayed that way until I reached the age of reason.

Gun Control - there is no one single answer - it has to be many concerns addressed, including mental health - why so many people with faulty wiring? Why? By the way are hand grenades, bazookas, missiles etc covered under the 2nd amendment.

Obama - c'mon man he deserves time off - can you name anyone with more pressure on him? Might be more jobs if the Republicans stopped saying no to everything and the Congress got something done.

Carrie Underwood - the only American Idol I ever watched was the one she won - see floats my boat - WOW

Feenix - don't know him but from what I hear he was terrific.

P.S. Looking for the return of Feenix, an outstanding hubber.

A good refresher. You said it short but made your point on some interesting issues. Now I need to find about about Feenix.

About the pope...I believe the reason for the big deal is the very point that no pope has done this in a few hundred years. If one would follow current news, we will see that in this day and age when a major public figure, and you would agree that the pope is a major public figure, claims to be retiring for "health reasons" there is almost if not always another reason that has to do with an act or acts against the foundational system they belong. That was the reason the church used/uses when a priest commits a major indiscression...not to say or imply that the pope has...but I'm just saying. History does give some cause that the last pope to retire was involved in some "undisclosed funny business." Think about it, the pope has literally unlimited access to any and every thing he wants and needs...he probably has a better medical team than any king or president bar none. All that being assumed (yes assumed) and said lolololol, I think there is more afoot...although none of anyone's business...I do not think it is simply "retirement for health reasons" like we are being told. But then that is between him and his god.

Hi RBJ!

Always a pleasure for you to drop by and comment.

Boy, there is something going on with the ‘crazies’ these days. My own opinion is that our society is losing a lot of morality that we once had and took pride in. Being politically correct, and not calling a duck, a duck, when it is quacking and doing what ducks do.

The 2nd Amendment clearly says “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. With that said, we obviously as a Nation decided to make laws against civilians owning those. So touche’!With your great question. My opinion dictates we must apply some common sense. So where do we draw the line? That is where we must have the debate as our Nation is currently doing.

I am being somewhat factious in regards to Obama’s vacation time, but yet I am absolutely ranting from the heart We are living in times when we have had an unprecedented amount of folks without jobs. Millions on foodstamps. It was the President who made the bold statements exclaiming he will not rest until he fixes this problem, yet zooms off on a vacation and hit the courses like a wild man. At least Bush had the fortitude to quit golfing, when we went to war. As a leader he realized that it did not look good. That is what we need right now, some leadership, but again that is just my view.

I appreciate your comments.

Hi gaeparks,

You are right, something really does seem askew, when it has been a certain way for 600 plus years....BUT, perhaps his motives ARE pure, and the should be, he IS the Pope. I too a normally a skeptical person on such issues. Yet I can be naïve way too often. I like to find the best in folks. I hope this is the case with him.

I am very happy to see you stop by and comment.

What an insightful and entertaining hub page! Well done, and I miss Feenix too. I hope that he remains true to his alliterated handle here and rises again. Phoenix also means a person or thing regarded as uniquely remarkable in some respect which definitely fits Feenix.

One last shot Chris - taking off at a critical time seems to infest ALL politicians - how about the filibuster on Hagel, then they adjourn and take off - DUH !!!!

I am not totally happy with the President either, but I've never known a politician fulfill promises they made - we all are so trusting.

RBJ,

Honestly, I am sick of ALL of them. I think we are ALL up to our chins with everything in Washington. I admit it is just not Obama....Bush and Clinton, along with the liberal media, the Christian Right, and the neo-parties, they whole shabam.....are all ingredients that are in this menu that is making Americans ill....sick and tired.

I think we need to hit some sort of bottom before we ever work our way back up.

ketage profile image

I do not see what all the Commotion was about, the pope was tired and wanted to retire, He should know when its time to take a break. The way the media talked about it, it was like he was doing something wrong.

And Carrie is amazing.

CMerritt profile image

CMerritt 3 years ago from Pendleton, Indiana Author

Exactly ketage.......the old guy is tired and ready to let a new guy in.

Thanks for commenting!

Carrie Amazing Underwood!

tsadjatko profile image

tsadjatko 3 years ago from maybe (the guy or girl) next door

You know I've thought about the Pope and I wonder if it is really just that he wants to retire - he was relied on heavily to help the previous Pope in his last days and likewise he has others who can carry out much of his responsibilities if he is tired. I think that it is more than just old age. The scandals that have plagued the Catholic church must weigh heavily on the pontiff and could be a burden he just wants to be free of. I can't understand myself how he deals with the immorality that seeped into that church. Just the thought of the pedifilia that has occurred turns my stomach and to have to confront those situations, the perpetrators, the victims and their families has to be a burden beyond belief and seems to be never ending.

You are right Carrie Underwood is amazing. But in this world that gave us the Messiah Barack Obama, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out she is really a man.

Hi tsadjatko,

I totally understand your comments regarding the Pope....but I gotta come up for air on the Carrie Underwood thing....the thought you implied makes the hair on my neck stand up!

Follow the news...NPR World News...his retirement is attached to some scandal involving other priests who did some nasty stuff to children and there are even two cardinals who were asked to resign so as not to be a part of the selection of the next pope because one was accused of approaching another priest for sex.

CMerritt profile image

CMerritt 3 years ago from Pendleton, Indiana Author

I actually DO follow the news, and this is the first I have heard of such. The key word is scandal. Not that it would not surprise me, but I got to still lean towards the Popes ailing health and desire NOT to pursue his role any further.

But, I appreciate your thoughts on it....and I am going to be googling this to see if I have indeed just missed it.

Thanks,

Chris

tsadjatko profile image

tsadjatko 3 years ago from maybe (the guy or girl) next door

I haven't heard that either but it would not surprise me one bit. You know what went on to the extent that it did for decades can not be a bottom up scandal - people at the top had to be enablers...or worse.

I guess I am NOT surprised, but just tired of having to accept that that kind of BS DOES go on. It is so sad, if indeed it is all true.
