Redneck Duck Dynasty Family and the Dumbing Down of America

God, Country and Duck Dynasty

They Quack, Networks Respond

The Dumbing Down of America by The Duck Dinosaurs

As test scores confirm, the nationwide academic achievements of American kids continues its slide down the world scale. Except for the bright spots of some of our most recent immigrants, the Indians and Chinese as n example, who are not hindered by our wild west, redneck shoot 'em up, hip hop culture. Our once proud country continues its slide into irrelevance and mediocrity.

The concerns of a startling number of our ignorant, intellectually bereft citizenry has shifted to the defense of fundamentally errant fundamentalist bible totters who somehow justify their actions and beliefs as the word of God. Up until now, I never thought that Jesus was a redneck, but it must say so somewhere in the bible.

Duck Dynasty and and a rash of either idiotic, low-brow or pornographic entertainment offerings, have captured the weak hearts and minds of our IQ deficient citizenry. Due to racist and anti gay statements from the family’s patriarch, the Duck Dynasty show was cancelled in a widely publicizes move, then reinstated because of pressures from the duck loving redneck community who have found common ground in the statements uttered my Robertson..

But the finger of shame surely should be pointed at ABC and the A&E network for their cancellation reversal. Apparently the gay and black communities do not have enough influence on the bottom line profits of those institutions to warrant a cancellation of the show or at least the departure of the head duckster.

Robertson, his duck family and the fraternity of rednecks who idolize this opportunistic family’s message are the descendants of folks who fostered and defended slavery, the Ku Klux Klan, segregation, anti Catholic, anti gay and anti black sentiments.

They proudly identify as "rednecks". While the rest of the world and a majority of their countrymen think of them as ignorant clowns who have come to epitomize the backward hillbilly image of the south. Apparently, this redneck segment of our population is the audience the networks are hoping to hold on to. The rednecks have struck again and won another battle in their attempt to call attention to sorry redneck culture. Scratch that, I mean redneck lack of culture and refinement

If America needs a duck leader, Donald is waiting in the wings.Intolerance raises its ugly head once again. Doesn't it just quack you up?

One more comment about the redneck population, some of whom descend from our country's earliest settlers.

As millions of recent immigrants entered this country over the past 100 plus years from Europe, they were for the most part, uneducated and unable to speak the language Their goals, that were quickly realized by the next generation were to get educated and improve their lot among their countrymen. They did not celebrate a tradition of backwoods ignorance like many among us who appear to be proud of that phase of their history and development.. The immigrants defeated it and did not not propagate or wear that ignorance proudly like the Duck Dynasty members and their followers.

That's actually amusing given the fact that the lowest test scores are actually found in cities that are run by - wait for it - the liberals. Is it really wrong to fear the lord and respect the Constitution? Funny too how the largest population centers boast the largest ratio of low information voters. Be careful who you poke at since the real "dumbed down" ones may very well be the very people of whom you're extolling the virtues.

Bernie, you might want to check your facts. I'm not sure what you mean by "run by liberals" in terms of cities (do you mean liberal mayors?), but American test scores overwhelmingly show that the South, specifically the Bible belt, has some of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country. Other areas that have large immigrant populations also lag behind the general population, though this can be largely attributed to language barriers and cultural issues. The Northest, Northwest, and other pockets of largely metropolitan areas (though there are some places in the midwest that are doing quite well, too) do much better in terms of education. Although I can understand feeling that one's culture is not being respected, it's important to use facts instead of emotion to think about education problems in the US. It would be useful to talk about why certain pockets of the US lag behind other countries in education and achievement without making statements that are not factual. HEre are a few articles: http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2013/1...

These Duck Dynasty people make me think of G W Bush and other individuals who pretend to have something to do with a particular demographic (this one seems to be appealing to a rural, Southern, white, poor, largely uneducated audience) to make money from them and gain power or influence. These people are millionaires who, before their show, dressed like dudes who just walked off of a yacht. It's all an act meant to pander to an audience. Having grown up poor, and knowing lots of people who identify culturally with the South who aren't racists, homophobes, or fundamentalists, I find these Duck Dynasty people offensive and can't understand why people buy this pretend redneck act.

Uh, I would check those sources again if I were you. Drop out and low graduation rates in cities where liberals are in control actually exceed even those rates in the south. Detroit (which has been in liberal control for over thirty years) has one of the highest ethnic populations of people that cannot read in North America. New York City isn't far behind.

Unfortunately, the law doesn't differentiate when it allows these people the right to vote even though they can't read and certainly cannot think for themselves. Frankly, I'd trust the 'education' of a redneck hick from the south to be far superior over a dropout of any race in any liberal city. At least the hick is more likely to able to fend for himself than become a burden on society like the dropout who won't take a job flipping burgers since it won't pay him as much as a welfare check.

Oh, one more note for you, Lettyann. I noticed you quoted two sources for your information, both from the liberally biased magazine, The Atlantic. Word of advice - stop reading and listening to the mainstream media. They have an uncanny ability to tell you things that you WANT to hear, not the truth. You want the truth, you need to get it from the source. FOIL the school districts and get the unfiltered information directly from them. They can't sugarcoat it but they can withhold information if you fail to phrase your request properly. I personally foiled over 300 documents from various governmental entities last year and it's quite shocking to see what the liberal media likes to hide from the people.

By the way, I do listen to the mainstream media so I know what facts to foil. I also listen to FOX too. They get more right than the rest of the news media even with their right leaning biases. But if you go after the real facts, they can't lie. In the interim, have fun reading your articles and being bamboozled by the lies. When you're ready to wake up and smell the coffee, the truth is out there.

You have named two cities to prove your hypothesis; this is not really proof, as I could name you a dozen cities with Democratic mayors that have incredibly high high school graduation rates. The articles mentioned actually contain very little analysis; they are largely aggregating data. In terms of New York City, the mayor is Michael Bloomberg, who is socially liberal, economically conservative, and is listed as an independent. I fail to see how large immigrant populations or large disenfranchised populations in a large metropolitan area corresponding to lower graduation rates really supports a pro-conservative position: it makes sense to me that people who have suffered from systemic poverty (for example, some urban populations and immigrant populations, as well as the rural poor in Southern states) would not do so well in schools (and the problems with American schools and how they are tied to local property values is another issue). My question is: what helps to improve education? What has actually been shown to work? I don't see an answer from you aside from political bias and talking points and, strangely, television show tag lines.

I'd love to end the conversation here, though, as I'm sure the original hub writer would appreciate comments on topic. If you feel the need to follow up, please feel free to do so via message.

Now that raises interesting questions, doesn't it? Let's see if we can delve into it a little, shall we?

If you take a large urban area, I've noticed some interesting paralels in many cities across the US that open up some intriguing talking points. Let's take a city that has many surrounding suburban communities that has, as you state, "a high urban graduation rate". When we break it down further, though, we see that the city proper has an average or below average graduation rate than the suburbs, especially those of affluence where schools have a better rounded curriculum and the staff to student ratio is higher since most teachers and aides would prefer not to put their lives at risk in inner city schools.

This presents the correlation that you're looking for - urban youth, who are by nature at higher risk, do not have the same resources as students in more affluent school districts. How do those parents afford to live in more affluent and, by extension, better school districts? By virtue of their own educations and employment and, often, the basic family unit consisting of two loving parents (most often of a heterosexual nature which allows for the family unit consisting of a mother and father and naturally born children). Inner city children are generally from broken homes where one parent has absconded and rescinded their parental obligations, thus making the children who attend those public schools most often wards of the educational system while the schools are in session. Frankly, schools are not equipped to raise children. They should simply be there to fill their heads with (unfiltered and unbiased) knowledge. Instead, our teachers have become underpaid glorified babysitters of classes that are too large and too unruly to allow true learning to take place.

Is there an easy solution? No. But something must be done. I actually would be inclined to believe that the rednecks from the south that have been referred to though are indeed smarter than the average inner city student. At least they were smart enough not to fall for the BS being dished out by our Democratic president and his idiot staff. Or, for that matter, most other Democrats either.
