Keane - Perfect Symmetry (new release!)
Keane fans have a lot to look forward to...
With the release of Keane's latest album, Perfect Symmetry , this week, fans will probably find that album number 3 is just as melodic and memorable as Hopes and Fears (2004)and Under the Iron Sea (2006), both of which went to #1 in the UK.
The first single, "Spiralling," was released sometime this summer. Snippets of "Spiralling" and "The Lovers are Losing" can be heard on the band's Myspace page. (Along with Keane's hilariously sexy live rendition of Dirrrrtylicious: a mash-up of Beyonce's and Christina Aguilera's hits.)
The more I listen to the album, the more I like it. Many of the songs are reminiscent of the 80s - I think I hear some Pet Shop Boys, U2, etc... and that's definitely not a bad thing in my book!
My favorite tracks from the album are "Lovers are Losing," (sounds like it could have been in the Pretty in Pink soundtrack!) "Spiralling," (most definitely an energetic sing-along!) and "Perfect Symmetry." I have part of it stuck in my head - "I dream in e-mails, worn out phrases, miles and miles of just empty pages..." - and keep singing it to myself. When I first heard the intro to "You Haven't Told Me Anything" I thought it sounded like the music from a Geico caveman commercial, but I quickly got over it. I like the quirky sounds of "Better than This," especially when Tom sings to "get a grip on yourself." I can think of plenty of people I'd like to tell that to.
Some of the songs seem to allude to love (...and love lost?) and relationships, and some sound political, but I could be wrong - what I like most about Keane is trying to decipher what the lyrics mean. Like the bit Tom sings in French at the end of "Black Burning Heart." Somebody listen, translate, and get back to me. Thanks.
