Sherlock Holmes: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Sherlock Holmes premiered in the United States on Christmas Day in 2009, with Sherlock Holmes: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack released by Watertower Music a couple of weeks later on the 12th of January 2010. Hans Zimmer was invited to compose the score after Guy Richie had used his Dark Knight soundtrack temporarily during editing.
The album is 52 minutes consisting of original works composed by Zimmer. Zimmer created the distinctive sound using a banjo, cimbalom, squeaky violins, and even a broken pub piano played in an underground car park at 20th Century Fox.
The score from Sherlock Holmes was nominated for an Academy Award for best score, but lost to Up by Michael Giacchino.
Sherlock Holmes was inspired by the 1901 novel The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
