Adele and Her Songs
Adele was born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins on May 5, 1988 in Tottenham, North London, England. She began singing at an early age and was a fan of The Spice Girls while growing up. Up until the latter part of 2008, Adele lived with her mother, Penny Adkins, who raised her solo. Adele doesn't have a strong relationship with her father, recovering alcoholic, Mark Evans, and even he admits in interviews that he has "let [Adele] down."
When Adele was 16 (2004), she wrote a song entitled, “Hometown Glory,” which was released in the fall of 2007, nearly a year after she graduated from BRIT School. The BRIT School is for 14 to 19 year olds and is Britain's free performing arts and technology school. The goal of the school is to "cultivate the ability and talent of our young people." Adele wrote "Hometown Glory" after a spat she and her mother had regarding whether she should move out of London to Liverpool. Her second release, “Chasing Pavements,” remained high on the UK Charts for a month. In 2008, she released “19,” an album that made it to No. 1 on the charts. In the summer of that year, her album was released in the United States.
In 2011, “21” was released and soared to the #1 album spot in several countries. By March, it was #1 in the United States.
At the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, after collecting six Grammys, Adele stated through tears in her speech how it had been a "life changing" year. The language that composed Adele’s inspirational songs for “21” were the effects of an ended relationship with a former boyfriend. Ironically, by the time my friends were raving about Adele and I had actually heard her song, “Someone Like You,” my own 11 year old committed relationship was demoted. Adele’s CD is now a fixture in my car. I have read Adele gives her former boyfriend some of the credit for her album that has sold millions of copies all over the world. The success Adele has created with her talent is certainly life changing, as she puts it, and she states her next album will have happy tunes. The first time I heard Adele sing, I never would have guessed her age. She has an incredible voice and just knocks her songs out of the park--because she has lived a broken heart, she gives her songs life.
Adele stole the show at the 2012 Grammy Awards. For "Rolling in the Deep," she won the song of the year and best short music video . With "21," she stole album of the year and best pop vocal album. "Someone Like You" brought Adele the best pop solo performance award. For all of her fans, it was an exciting event to watch. Her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, accompanied her to the event to witness her fabulous win of six Grammys.
For the 51stGrammy Awards held in early 2009, Adele snagged the Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance awards. She also received three nominations for the Brit Awards.
In 2011, Adele received a nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Hometown Glory."
In 2008, she became the first winner of the Brit Awards Critics' Choice.
