Biography

Adele was born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins on May 5, 1988 in Tottenham, North London, England. She began singing at an early age and was a fan of The Spice Girls while growing up. Up until the latter part of 2008, Adele lived with her mother, Penny Adkins, who raised her solo. Adele doesn't have a strong relationship with her father, recovering alcoholic, Mark Evans, and even he admits in interviews that he has "let [Adele] down."

When Adele was 16 (2004), she wrote a song entitled, “Hometown Glory,” which was released in the fall of 2007, nearly a year after she graduated from BRIT School. The BRIT School is for 14 to 19 year olds and is Britain's free performing arts and technology school. The goal of the school is to "cultivate the ability and talent of our young people." Adele wrote "Hometown Glory" after a spat she and her mother had regarding whether she should move out of London to Liverpool. Her second release, “Chasing Pavements,” remained high on the UK Charts for a month. In 2008, she released “19,” an album that made it to No. 1 on the charts. In the summer of that year, her album was released in the United States.

In 2011, “21” was released and soared to the #1 album spot in several countries. By March, it was #1 in the United States.

Adele's Success

At the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, after collecting six Grammys, Adele stated through tears in her speech how it had been a "life changing" year. The language that composed Adele’s inspirational songs for “21” were the effects of an ended relationship with a former boyfriend. Ironically, by the time my friends were raving about Adele and I had actually heard her song, “Someone Like You,” my own 11 year old committed relationship was demoted. Adele’s CD is now a fixture in my car. I have read Adele gives her former boyfriend some of the credit for her album that has sold millions of copies all over the world. The success Adele has created with her talent is certainly life changing, as she puts it, and she states her next album will have happy tunes. The first time I heard Adele sing, I never would have guessed her age. She has an incredible voice and just knocks her songs out of the park--because she has lived a broken heart, she gives her songs life.

Grammy Awards

Adele stole the show at the 2012 Grammy Awards. For "Rolling in the Deep," she won the song of the year and best short music video . With "21," she stole album of the year and best pop vocal album. "Someone Like You" brought Adele the best pop solo performance award. For all of her fans, it was an exciting event to watch. Her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, accompanied her to the event to witness her fabulous win of six Grammys.

For the 51stGrammy Awards held in early 2009, Adele snagged the Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance awards. She also received three nominations for the Brit Awards.

In 2011, Adele received a nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Hometown Glory."

In 2008, she became the first winner of the Brit Awards Critics' Choice.

I am so glad you posted this hub. I am a huge Adele fan and play her music as often as I can. My favorite videos are of Adele singing live with her audience at the Royal Albert Hall. The audience participation with her just gives me goosebumps. I can never get through Someone Like You without my eyes misting up.

Voting this up

seriousnuts, thanks for the read. I love Adele's music and performance based on her life experience...that break-up sure did play a role in her life changing event, and good for her. Can't wait until she comes to KC for a concert. Thanks much.

Adele is one of the artists I admire. It's really rare to find a voice like that nowadays. Most of the music now are mainly associated with racy music videos and shallow lyrics. But not Adele's music. Her raw talent is enough to bring her to the spotlight. I love her music.

cynamans, thanks much for your comment. I saw a video today of a two year old singing her "Someone Like You" song, and even the two year old gets the effects of the song, or at least that's how it sounded. Thanks much.

bgamall, thanks very much for the read. I agree with what you say. I did read that her next release will be "positive" tunes, not sad one so it will be interesting how she does that because she really has a good blues voice. I love her music.

The girl has some of the most amazing songs ever written. I have listened to music for decades and Adele blows me away with her incredible songs and writing. She is simply the best.

Can she sustain this brilliance. One hopes so, but how can it get better than Set Fire to the Rain, Rolling in the Deep, and Someone Like You. These songs are just beyond even the best songs on the charts. She has a gift of communication above her peers.

I don't get goose bumps too often listening to music but this girl brings them out.

Rumor has it Adele has turned the tables for singers all across the world. She's been the one and only singer to take it all - rolling in the deep and wide ranges of her beautiful voice.... Thanks for the hub!

Check out my poem I wrote about Adele..

adele is tremendous. she has a terrifically soulful voice. I get chills anytime I hear Chasing Pavements. She's an incredible talent, I'd say on par with Alicia Keys (who has a similar vocal quality)

I personally love her DON'T YOU REMEMBER. I am happily engaged but for some reasons, that song has made such a great impact on me. I adore Adele not only because she has a great voice and singing technique; but because she writes songs from the heart. And we kind of like have the same attitude towards criticism. As a musician, I feel so inspired that emulating her example is one of the good things to do. :D

Thank you for sharing this my friend. Voted up! :)
