Singer Shannon Magrane: American Idol 11 (2012) Predictions and Spoilers

Updated on January 22, 2012

Singer Shannon Magrane is a contestant on the 2012 season of American Idol. According to TheIdolPad spoilers, Shannon has advanced to the Top 24. If the spoilers are true, this means she will sing for America's votes. Based on what I have seen so far, I predict that Shannon will have a good chance of making it to around the Top 6. This assumes that she is not sunk by the producers with a terrible song choice in the Top 24, which the producers love doing to some contestants.

Shannon is the daughter of Joe Magrane, who was a Major League pitcher. He was in the World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987. According to Wikipedia, Joe is now a color commentator for the MLB Network.

Magrane is one of my favorite contestants so far. She seems very versatile and also has a better-than-average vocal tone. While not necessarily a powerhouse singer, she has a fair degree of power to go along with her vocal tone. Shannon also has supreme confidence and the willingness to sing different styles across generations of songs. For example, she sang some Etta James for her audition but has performed "New York State of Mind" and other modern songs at other times. All in all, Shannon ticks many marks in terms of vocals. Her tone is beautiful, and she has decent power with a touch of soul, versatility and showmanship.

On the negative side, it seems that Shannon may not have the most uniqueness in the bunch. In terms of singing, she may be near the top. But others like Reed Grimm or Phillip Phillips will beat her on overall musicality.

TheIdolPad also has a spoiler saying that Shannon got a standing ovation during the Hollywood Week auditions for her performance of "What a Wonderful World." Assuming this is true and shown on TV, it may help her build that crucial early fanbase to get to the Top 12. After that, she should be safe for a while based on her confidence, memorability and overall talent.

Shannon will then probably go out around the Top 6. At least at this age, Shannon seems more like a great singer with raw skills than an established artist. Nonetheless, Shannon Magrane is a great addition to American Idol 11 whether she wins or not.
