Angel of Death

Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The way that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in
Like cattle
You run
Stripped of
Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die

Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead

Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood
Destroying, withour mercy
To benefit the Aryan race
Surgery, with no anesthesia
Feel the knife pierce your intensely
Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die

Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher
Angel of Death

Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
How long can you last in this frozen water burial
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time 'til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their
Crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve
The holocaust

Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
Deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end
of your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
Your blood running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of
The mutants he's creating
Pathetic, harmless victims
Left to die
Rancing Angel of Death
Flying free

Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Angel of Death

Angel of Death

Angel of Death - Slayer's Most Controversial Song?

A brief History

The name "Angel of Death" can mean many different things to many different people. Religion may see the Angel of Death as Satan, the fallen angel. To others, the Angel of Death is the well-deserved nickname given to Joseph Mengela, the infamous Nazi doctor who conducted horrific experiments on the Jews during World War II.

To the Jewish prisoner's of Nazi Germany, the Angel of Death would take their friends away, to kill and maim them for the purpose of "science". Studies like seeing how long a person could survive in freezing cold water, or how two people would react if sewn together were performed and documented. Many of the Jewish victims of Joseph Mengela were not given the pleasure of pain killers or sedation - They were fully aware and very much in pain as they were maimed and killed.

Following the war, Joseph Mengela fled, and was never captured and brought before a war crimes trial. Perhaps this itself is even harder to stomache than the terrible experiments he bestowed upon Jewish prisoners.

Slayer's Controversial lyrics to Angel of Death

Slayer has always been renound for their crushing riffs and heavy, harsh lyrics.  They write songs about death and destruction.  Song's like Dead Skin Mask written by Slayer are about famous serial killers.  But don't for one second think that Slayer advocates anything that they sing about.  Quite the opposite.  Despite their "stray dog" appearance, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer group of guys.

Angel of Death pushes the boundries of just about every genre.  This is a song that presents the story of Joseph Mengela and his experiments on Jewish prisoner's matter-of-factly.  In typical Slayer fashion, the song is brutal, fast, and as thrashy as metal can get.

Because of the lyrical content of Angel of Death, Slayer has been dealing with questions about outright opposition since penning the song back in the mid-80's.  Many skinhead groups have mistakenly assumed Slayer are anti-semetic, or that they dislike Jews.  Slayer has continally said from the very beginning that they in no way endorse or approve of Joseph Mengela's experiments, Nazi Germany, or any other racist groups.  They're interested in the history behind World War II, and Nazi doctor Joseph Mengela just happens to be a good subject for a thrash metal song.
