Songs of the Week that have Saturday in them

I'm continuing my hub series where I write a hub each day about songs that use one of the days of the week in their title. This hub is on songs that have "Saturday" in their titles. These songs are all well known hits by well known artists and with all the Saturday songs to choose from, the most difficult hub I've had to create yet.  I'm only taking on five songs per hub so I might have missed yours. If I have, please let me know what your favorite "Saturday song" is in the comments section.

If you would be so kind to VOTE IN THE POLL as well... it would be much appreciated!

Another Saturday Night - Sam Cooke

Album:
Ain't That Good News
Artist:
Sam Cooke
Composer:
Sam Cooke
Release Date:
February 28, 1963
Highest Rating:

#10(US), #23(UK)

Sam Cooke's "Another Saturday Night" from his "Ain't That Good News" album reached #10 in the U.S. but Cat Steven's cover of the song (see video below comments section) faired better and reached #6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 list. Sam Cooke is at the forefront of influences on the American R&B and soul styles of music, known as "The King of Soul". Cooke was shot and killed by the manager of the Hacienda Hotel in a death after some kind of disturbance in the hotel that night. The shooting was ruled justifiable homicide by the courts. That ruling has been considered questionable and the source of much speculation ever since.

Lyrics:

Another Saturday Night and I ain't got nobody,
I got some money ‘cause I just got paid.
How I wish I had someone to talk to,
I'm in an awful way.

I got in town a month ago, I ain't seen a lotta girls since then.
If I could find ‘em I could get ‘em, but as yet I haven't met ‘em,
That's why I'm in the shape I'm in

Another Saturday Night and I ain't got nobody,
I got some money ‘cause I just got paid.
How I wish I had someone to talk to,
I'm in an awful way.

Now - another fella told me, he had who looked just fine.
Instead of being my deliverance, she had a strange resemblance to a
Cat named Frankenstein

Another Saturday Night and I ain't got nobody,
I got some money ‘cause I just got paid.
How I wish I had some chic to talk to,
I'm in an awful way - yeah

It's hard on a fella, when he don't know his way around,
If I don't find me a honey to help me spend my money,
I'm gonna have to blow this town - here

Another Saturday Night and I ain't got nobody,
I got some money ‘cause I just got paid.
How I wish I had someone to talk to,
I'm in an awful way.

Lyrics:

SATURDAY night!
SATURDAY night!
SATURDAY night!
SATURDAY night!

Gonna keep on dancin' to the
rock and roll
On Saturday night, Saturday night
Dancin' to the rhythm in our
heart and soul
On Saturday Night, Saturday night
IIIII just can't wait,
IIII got a date

*At the good ole rock and roll road
show, I gotta go
Saturday Night,
Saturday Night
Gonna rock it up, roll it up
Do it all, have a ball,
Saturday Night,
Saturday Night
It's just a Saturday Night
It's just a Saturday Night
It's just a Saturday Night

Gonna dance with my baby till the
night is thru
On Saturday Night, Saturday Night
Tell her all the little things I'm
gonna do
On Saturday night, Saturday Night
IIIIlove her so
III I'm gonna let her know

*repeat

SATURDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY NIGHT,
SATURDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY NIGHT,
It's just a Saturday night
It's just a Saturday Night,
IT's just a Saturday Night,
It's just a Saturday Night,

Saturday Night Special - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Album:
Nuthin' Fancy
Artist:
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Composer:
Ed King
Ronny Van Zant
Release Date:
May 19, 1975
Highest Rating:

#18(US), #6(UK)

"Saturday Night Special" is a hit single of off Lynyrd Skynyrd's third studio album, "Nuthin' Fancy". The title refers to the name of a handgun and the lyrics are an anthem for gun control and the misuses of firearms. A southern rock band hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, they gained prominence in the early 70's until a plane crash killed three of their members and a road crew member in 1977. The band reformed in 1987 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

Lyrics:

Two feets they come a creepin'
Like a black cat do
And two bodies are layin' naked
Creeper think he got nothin' to lose
So he creeps into this house, yeah
And unlocks the door
And as a man's reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of .38 holes

(Chorus)
Mr.Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
Ain't no good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

Big Jim's been drinkin' whiskey
And playing poker on a losin' night
And pretty soon, Big Jim starts a thinkin'
Somebody been cheatin' and lyin'
So Big Jim commences to fightin'
I wouldn't tell you no lie
And Big Jim done pull his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes

(Chorus)

Oooh Saturday night special...
For twenty dollars you can buy yourself one too...

Oooh let me tell you all about it...

Well hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ole fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

(Chorus)

Ooooh it's a Saturday night special
And I'd like to tell you what you can do with it too...

Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John

Album:
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Artist:
Elton John
Composer:
Bernie Taupin
Release Date:
July 16, 1973
Highest Rating:

#12(US), #7(UK)

"Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" is off of Elton John's very successful "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album, his seventh studio album at the time. It was considered a departure from Elton's more mellower piano based songs and was supposed to be styled as an american rock song with a tinge of glam thrown in. Both Queen and The Who have made cover versions of the songs along with numerous "newer" acts - including Nickleback. Although a successful hit, it failed to reach the top 10 in the United States as tabulated by Billboard Magazine, the only song not to make the top 10 out of a series of 13 hits Elton John had in the early 70s.

Lyrics:

It's getting late have you seen my mates
Ma tell me when the boys get here
It's seven o'clock and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady she don't care
My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
A handful of grease in her hair

Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in

Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
`Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright alright alright

Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out "She's with me!"

A couple of the sound that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
I'm a juvenile product of the working class
Whose best friend floats in the bottom of a glass

Saturday in the Park - Chicago

Album:
Chicago V
Artist:
Chicago
Composer:
Robert Lamm
Release Date:
July 1972
Highest Rating:

#3(US)

Robert Lamm wrote and sang the best selling hit Chicago has had to date and later lead singer Peter Cetera did backing vocals.  According to Chicago band member, Walter Parazaider the song was written after Lamm came back from New York's central park, excited about the energy put out by the street performers there.  The song is played at both the Chcago Cub's and New York Yankee's home games on Saturday afternoons.  It was a #3 hit as a single and helped the Chicago V album to become #1.

Lyrics:

Saturday in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
Saturday in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
People dancing, people laughing
A man selling ice cream
Singing Italian songs
Eicay vare, eise narde
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For Saturday

Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
People talking, really smiling
A man playing guitar
Singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For today

Slow motion riders fly the colors of the day
A bronze man still can tell stories his own way
Listen children all is not lost
All is not lost
Oh no, no

Forty days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
Forty days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
People reaching, people touching
A real celebration
Waiting for us all
If we want it, really want it
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For the day
