Verse 1:
My grandpa told me stories his grandpa told to him
of how our family made its way for the land of Cuchulainn
to be sure he made me promise when I became a man
one day I'd find my way back to sweet home Ireland
one day I'd find my way back to sweet home Ireland

Verse 2:
The famine nearly beat us in 1848
selling everything that we held dear for passage to the states
from the port of Cobh on a merchantman we sailed to Baltimore
now generations later we're still Irish to the core

Bridge:
So pour us a pint of Guinness boys when we're feeling low
and sing a song of Ireland, Ireland our sweet home
to be sure we made the promise and we'll keep it if we can
one day to find our way back to sweet home Ireland
one day to find our way back to sweet home Ireland

Verse 3:
I wed and Irish girl from Pittsburgh, bless my lucky star
whenever we made love she put a quarter in her jar
barely three years later she cashed those quarters in
for two tickets on Aere Lingus bound for sweet home Ireland

Bridge:
So pour us a pint of Guinness boys when we're feeling low
and sing a song of Ireland, Ireland our sweet home
to be sure we made the promise and we'll keep it if we can
one day to find our way back to sweet home Ireland
one day to find our way back to sweet home Ireland
