The 5 Most Underrated Characters on The Office
The hit NBC show “The Office” is the type of show that you either love or hate. Based on a UK show of the same name, it had some trouble picking up viewers when it first started, but eventually garnered a fan base. The show features a variety of characters, some more famous than others. If you only know of characters like Michael, Dwight, Jim, and Pam, then you are missing out on the best part. The best part of the show are the lesser known and underrated characters.
On “The Office”, Phyllis Vance is a cross between Samantha Jones from “Sex and the City” and Mrs. Clause. Upon first glance, she looks like someone’s aunt or grandmother, but get to know her and you might be surprised. On one episode, she revealed that she liked wearing low-cut tops and flirting with other men, so her husband Bob Vance could beat them up. She also blackmailed another Office co-worker after seeing her sleeping with an ex-boyfriend. If that isn’t enough, she and Bob are frequently seen making out in the background of episodes.
Kelly Kapoor is the type of girl you would never want to sit beside at work. She talks too much, is obsessed with celebrity gossip, believes that dating and fashion are the best things ever, and only cares about her on-again/off-again boyfriend Ryan. Kelly is underrated because you cannot imagine an episode without her. She is almost always doing something completely random. Kelly can do more with one look, than a lot of characters do with word. Take for instance when she tells Ryan she is pregnant with his child, then looks at the camera, and shakes her head to the side.
Toby Flendeson is one of the best characters on “The Office” and one of the most underrated as well. We know quite a bit about his back story. He has one child and a failed marriage behind him, moved to Costa Rica, and is crazy about Pam. Any scene between him and Michael is worth watching, if only because of the animosity Michael felt towards him. More recently, he served on the jury for a major serial killer in Scranton. Toby seldom talks, but when he does, pay attention.
Meredith Palmer is an alcoholic, single mother that sleeps with anything that moves and we love every second. In one episode, she drinks hand sanitizer for the alcohol and in another, she steals Pam’s breast pump because she likes how it feels. Her character had some major problems over the years, including Michael hitting her with a car and Dwight trapping a bat over her head with a bag. Meredith is underrated because she is a hoot! Take for example the Saint Patrick’s Day episode. She claimed that on St. Patrick’s Day, she had no responsibilities. When another character pointed out that she was a mother, she shushed him with a, “not today.”
What can you say about a man that is so amazing that a show names a character after him and then gives him the role? The real Creed Bratton, who plays Creed Bratton, is a former singer that toured the world. The fictional Creed Bratton grows beans in his desk, knows everything there is to know about marijuana, steals from his co-workers, lies on the job, and does as little as possible to earn money. Any episode where Creed speaks is one worth watching. Look for the episode where he wants Pam’s desk chair, or the one where Dwight tries finding who left marijuana at the office.
