The Ballad of Jack and Jill

The Ballad of Jack and Jill

by Chuck RitenouR 12-1-2K5

verse 1:

Jack and Jill were behind the hill hiding from her father

Jack was just a hired hand, Jill was the rancher's daughter

Jack was twenty-five years old, Jill was sweet sixteen

Jill loved Jack with all her heart, he was her every thing.

Jack was handy with a gun, he was ruthless, he was bold

In a land where the good die young and the bad lived to grow old.

verse 2:

Behind the hill, Jack told Jill he was born to love her

Jack was a man withn a plan to marry the rancher's daughter

But the rancher wasn't stupid, no the rancher wasn't blind

He knew Jack would steal the ranch and leave poor Jill behind.

When the rancher was a younger man, he was ruthless, he was bold

In a land where the good die young and the bad live to grow old.

verse 3:

His wife died in childbirth but he had no time to grieve

a baby girl against the world, she became his everything

He'd be damned if any hired hand would make his Jill their wife

Yes he was a man with a plan to end that hired hand's life

he'd pay a man who was ruthless, a man who was bold

In a land where the good die young and the bad live to grow old.

verse 4:

some say Jill knew her father's mind better than he knew himself

and Jack had swore that for all time he'd love Jill and no one else

She knew what she had to do though it tore her soul apart

when she took her daddy's 45 and shot him in the heart

some say that Jill was ruthless, some say she was bold

In a land where the good die young Jack and Jill lived....to grow old.

the end.
