The Best Romantic Videos

Romantic Movie List

Here is my romance movie list for the best romantic videos and DVD's ever. I must be in love because this is the third article I have written in as many days about love. Maybe it's because the sun has come out and I am looking forward to the warm summer nights sipping wine with my loved ones or maybe I am getting old and like reminiscing, I just don't know.

You have had the pleasure of my 3 best ever love songs and now it is time for the best 3 love films. Obviously yours might be different to mine so by all means share them with me in the comments box below.

It should be said that I am not a film buff, especially love films but these 3 moved me to tears which makes them worth sharing. I don't know exactly what it is about a good weepy movie but they have the potential to suspend reality, give us hope and take away our day to day stresses.

If you are anything like me; you put on a brave face, hide your emotions and pretend that only lonely people watch these kind of films, well it is time for me to come out of the closet and tell you that "yes I love a great love story" and I am not ashamed to say it.

Anyway on with the best 3 love films ever, I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.

Romeo and Juliet DVD

Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare wrote possibly the most powerful story ever told, a story that even today touches every part of our being. Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl falls in love with boy then everybody else gets in the way.

How true and prophetic this story is, we can think about our own lives and find ourselves in this story even though it was written hundreds of years ago. Now I have seen it on stage, I have read the book and I have seen many adaptions for the big screen but for me Baz Luhrmann's interpretation is brilliant. Fans of Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes will not be disappointed, in my opinion they were born to play these parts.

If you have never read the story of Romeo and Juliet or you think you know the story but haven't really took the time to immerse yourself in it then I strongly urge you and a loved one to buy this film.

City of Angels

City of Angels

This film touched me on so many levels, I didn't really expect to react the way I did when I first watched it. I am not a believer as such but this love story did stop me in my tracks and force me to think deeply about love, god, angels and Meg Ryan.

City of Angels forced it's way to number 2 on my list of best ever love films simply because it's so damn good. I am not going to spoil the ending for you just in case you haven't seen it but for me it is perfect.

Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan excel themselves, the story encapsulates everything that is great about being in love, how elusive love is and how it can tear you apart when you least expect it.

It does make you wonder how people know these things.

Ghost DVD

Ghost

I was torn between Ghost and King Kong for my third choice, King Kong from my childhood in black and white somehow feels like a love story. An impossible love story that could only ever end in heartbreak but a love story all the same.

Obviously you can tell by the title that I opted for Ghost.

It is quite possible that my brain has been convinced by the media that Ghost is the best love film ever, it ranks high on most peoples lists. That said there is a deeper side to the story that creates hope. With a superstar cast the film was always going to be a successful blockbuster but the underlying story of love even beyond the grave really does move me.

Ghost by far is easiest on the eye of my three choices, it is entertainment rather than mind blowing moving but in parts it does give your emotions a life of their own, for that reason it beat King Kong into third place.

Ghost Trailer

It is only now that I have reached the bottom of the list that it has dawned on me that in each of my 3 best love films somebody dies.

I wonder if this is coincidence or something else? Could it be that we never really know how much we love someone until they die or are at least no longer around?

I have enjoyed writing this article so much I am going to stop now for a couple of hours and watch Romeo and Juliet again, if you have enjoyed it please let me know and don't forget to share your best ever love films.

I know this is a classic, I think Bogart was at the top of his game but I have never really got the emotion from it, maybe it's me but it proves that love is different for all of us.

Thanks again for your comment.

I absolutely love Zeffirelli's 'Romeo and Juliet' and another favourite is 'Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing'.

Hi Trish_M

I think William Shakespeare wrote it so well that every interpretation is bound to be great, I am a big fan of Twelfth Night, Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice. I have seen all on stage except Romeo and Juliet which I keep promising myself will wait until I get the chance to visit Stratford Upon Avon.

I will get there at some point, as for me it is the only place to watch it.

Hello Aiden :)

Though I visit Stratford often, and enjoy Shakespeare very much, I hadn't actually seen a Shakespeare play until a few years ago.

I thought that it was time to remedy the situation, so I went to Stratford to see 'The Tempest', 'Hamlet' and 'Love's Labours Lost'.

'Hamlet' was brilliant, 'The Tempest' was very good, but I found 'Love's Labours Lost' a bit lacking :)

The new RSC theatre is now open.
