The Best Gowns at the 2013 Oscars Red Carpet
Yes, they officially started calling the Academy Awards, The Oscars, this year. I think they just liked the shorter name. The gowns that were worn on the red carpet were not as stunning as last year but there were four that I thought were marvelous. Many of the celebrities wore pastels but didn't use makeup to create a contrasting look which made them look washed out.
Jennifer Lawrence, not only won the award for best actress for her film, Silver Linings Playbook, but also had the best dress. Although there were yards of fabric (she tripped on the stairs on her way to accept the award -- but she gamely got up and made a gracious speech), her height (she's 5'8") and slim build created a balanced look. The strapless dress was designed by Dior Haute Couture.
Quvenzhane Wallis, the youngest nominee for the statuette, looked like a princess in her beautiful blue gown. But what really was charming was her pony-shaped evening bag.
Jessica Chastain looked the epitomy of Hollywood glamor in her gold dress by Armani Prive. It was also a strapless style, but unlike Jennifer's, the fabric was very fluid and elegantly draped her figure.
Kristin Chenoweth was a hostess on the red carpet but I thought she deserved an award for her fabulous black and silver dress. Kristin is very petite but the sleeveless dress gives her the illusion of height. Her dress is designed by Tony Ward.
Reese Witherspoon's stunning strapless blue gown with black edging at the bosom and the sides gives her a very shapely look. Reese is also very petite and the dress adds height to her frame. She topped it off with a sleek but wavy hairstyle that completes the glamorous look. The dress is by Louis Vuitton.
