The Best Gowns at the Academy Awards 2012 Red Carpet
So we know who won for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and so forth at the 84th Academy Awards 2012, but this hub is about the actresses and the beautiful gowns they wore. Without a doubt, Octavia Spencer from the movie, The Help, looked the most stunning in her silver dress. Not only is she the winner for Best Supporting Actress, but she showed that a big girl can look fabulous on the red carpet. The Tadashi Shoji gown she wore showed off her curvaceous figure, and the simple diamond drop earrings completed her elegant look.
Natalie Portman looked bold, classic, and gorgeous in a vintage 1954 Christian Dior red polka dot gown. Of course the incredible stunning diamond necklace showed off her slim neck to advantage. I'm guessing that is a Harry Winston necklace. What I really admire about Natalie is that she wears a classic style but manages to make it look updated and modern.
I didn't expect to see her, but Bo Derek wore this simple but beautiful purple gown while she was accompanying actor, John Corbett. Bo is still a beautiful woman and has gracefully aged; she shows that the older woman can still have style and outshone many of the younger women at the red carpet. The simple lines are perfect for showing off her curvaceous figure. Women who are top heavy should take note: a well designed and fitted dress means that you don't have to look overblown.
Another actress who decided to wear the bold red color was Emma Stone in this beautiful flowing dress designed by Giambattista Valli. Some people would say that the red bow was too much but I actually think it was a nice accessory to her gamine style. She's so slim and her hair is cut so short that the red bow finished the look. It made her look feminine and quirky.
Gwynneth likes to wear white, simple gowns without any accessories. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, she looks boring and washed out and flat chested. At the red carpet, her caped, white gown designed by Tom Ford caused a sensation. Her off the shoulder neckline and fitted waist showed off her slim figure while the open cape and the chunky bangle that she wore made her look cosmopolitan and sophisticated.
