The Carpenters - Top Of The World.

Top Of The World.....

is not only the title of one of the bands most successful songs it was where they were until the untimely and shocking death of Karen Carpenter in her early thirties.

Richard and Karen Carpenter were at the pinnacle of their pop careers but had both been troubled by demons in their personal lives.

Quite typical of successful pop artists both back then and today. Drink, drugs and addiction abound with their high profile lifestyles and success it seems that most are never really expecting to be so successful and many find it hard to cope with everyday life after this kind of ultimate success. Imagine not being able to go about your everyday life without being swamped by adoring fans and photographers watching your every move.

No wonder they are pushed over the edge. After all these mega stars are, at the end of the day just like we are, with all the hang ups and confidence issues that we all have to carry throughout our lives.

Karen Carpenter.

A beautiful young woman at the height of her career when she was struck down as a constant battle with Anorexia Nervosa. I can remember having a schoolboy crush on her as she was 14 years my senior and would now be around the age of 62. This would make it around 30 years since her untimely death. A great loss to the music industry with her silky smooth and at times deep voice, nobody until recently could match her for the tone and range of her wonderful voice. That is until now. Rumer has been dubbed as the replacement for Karen Carpenter and the more I hear her the more I am believing this to be true.

At times she sounds just like KC and if you didn't know any different you would swear that Karen Carpenter has been reincarnated in the form of Rumer. Only you can decide this for yourself so why not have a listen to Rumer on her you tube channel.

Richard Carpenter.

Richard Carpenter the song writer of the brother and sister act had a phenomenal song writing ability. He had a great skill for writing songs and melodies for a commercial market and sold over 100 million albums over his career.

He now lives for his great car collection and charity work and the Carpenters have their own foundation.

Hit after hit.

For many years the hits and the success just kept coming and coming like an unstoppable train. Richard Carpenter could do no wrong and everything he wrote became massive.

The next Karen Carpenter with an equally velvety tone to her voice Rumer has made a big impression with her good looks and great presence on stage. Singer songwriter Rumer sounds as good live as she does on record.

Take a look for yourself on You Tube for both Rumer and The Carpenters and let me know what you think.

I always look forward and welcome comments on my articles.

Lost my Sister in 2005 from anorexia. She was only 40 years old. There is so much guilt left for us who tried to win Lynn back, who was like Ms. Carpenter. When ready to beat it, the heart was over it. Sisters heart gave out. I sometimes wonder about the Carpenter family, with their popularity at the time, and how they processed their family tragedy. Excellent article. This family, just like my sister, should always be remembered.

Homesteading,

thanks for including your personal account about your sister. I hope you have found some peace over the years and you have nothing to be guilty of. It is a cruel illness and I agree that these tragedies should be remembered.

Nice, Steve/ It was also a detriment to my rock n roll, indie rocker cred, but I have always had a fondness for the Carpenters. One of the best duos ever!

PDX, they were good. When I hear their songs on the radio, it always reminds me of my childhood. I had a schoolboy crush on Karen.
