There are jungle bootes, fresh cut flowers, packs of cigarettes.

Purple Hearts, Metals of Valor and unmailed letters to the dead.

In the humble silence, we let our tear drops fall

as we read the names of our friends carved in the long black wall.

verse two:

No parades, no cheering crowds when we came back home

we were despised and ridiculed for all the good we'd done.

All of us gave our best, the best of us gave their all

and you can read their names carved in the long black wall.

Now if I had a nickel for every tear I've shed

and a dime for every nightmare that chased me from my bed.
