The Mummy 75th Anniversary
Jack Pierce
Tribute to the Mummy
The Mummy, a 1932 Universal Studios classic, turns 75 years old this year. It stars Boris Karloff after Frankenstein and Zita Johann. Indeed a well-crafted classic of the horror movie genre, "The Mummy" is one of the iconic film characters that still holds up today.
The look of the Mummy was created by special effects make-up artist, Jack Pierce who also created other iconic monsters namely, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, and a whole host of others.
The Mummy has been recreated in the 1999 movie of the same title starring Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser.
To commemorate "The Mummy", students of The Art Institute - Orange County in California filmed a tribute DVD. It includes an exclusive interview with Sara Karloff, daughter of Boris Karloff. The podcast preview of the 75th Anniversary The Mummy Tribute DVD can be heard on CinNews at Perspective Radio.
Amazon sells a tribute book about Jack Pierce, the man behind the legends.
