The Soul of Blues

Sound of Blues throughout the night...
Sound of Blues throughout the night...
blues song escaping this life
blues song escaping this life
Blues sounds carried on the wind...
Blues sounds carried on the wind...

When Eric plays his fine Blues guitar,

joined by the King, and all the rest,

Muddy rivers we may see, to come clear,

so true, but not a muddying, of the best.

Refrain: The soul of a man or a woman,

escapes when the Blues man sings.

Singing his song, the whole night long,

and a little peace of mind, it brings.

When Robert, Ma, Billy and Etta, all sing,

joining, old Son, in his heart felt song,

The guitar talks, and it speaks of the soul,

in blues colors, when we all come along.

The throbbing thump, of the drummer's slow beat,

the strain of words, heard, and all so very clear,

The spirit escapes, as the sounds, each makes,

a truth, from down deep inside, we hear.

Refrain: The soul of a man or a woman,

Escapes when the Blues man sings.

Singing his song, the whole night long,

And a little peace of mind it brings.

A story of old times from the past,

and the wrongs, we've done, living in those days,

Shares a tale of all the pain, and misery, found,

then told in a thousand sad ways.

Mamma tell yo babies, what just happened,

of why papa's left for that golden shore,

He gave up his life for his family, he loved,

and He won't be coming home, no more,

Refrain: The soul of a man or a woman,

Escapes when the Blues man sings,

Singing his song the whole night long,

And a little peace of mind, it brings.

Sing that song of sadness, of life and all the misery,

feel that hurt and all that bad pain,

A guitar's whine and and a lonely voice drones,

a blues melody, in a crying refrain.

Pat that box and strum those silver strings,

then you shout that story out, and get it told,,

Remember that time back in New Orleans,

of bad times there, and some good as gold.

Refrain:The soul of a man or a woman,

Escapes, hen the Blues man sings.

Singing his song, the whole night long,

And a little peace of mind, it brings.

Troubles find us all, in our world sometimes,

and in our songs, we can let them all go,

Blues songs to be sung, so fine in the night,

Under a moon and stars, don't you know.

The soul revealed in Blues, a statement of what life is all about, Blues music comes from the inside, in sounds that bring feelings all out.

I love listening to the blues. The sounds and verses are really soul searching. Enjoyed your poem and the reflection on the blues.

The Blues is a part of Americana and the people close to the earth. We are all brothers and sisters and each has an inner song of faith and healing, sorrow and shame. We just have to let it all out, and when it does come out, it is the Blues.

Blues sings the soul like no other kind of music; I really enjoyed this.

Thank you Genna, I hoped that those who read this will get the senses of the Blues and emotions that are released in the process.

Thank you so much, buckjoseph, I tried to capture the Blues spirit, but is is an evasive entity.

I hear ya. :o) The Blues is a hard art to master, as I've tried myself. But with any kind of writing, I find that I'm the best with poetry, rather than lyrics. But you, my friend, are a great lyricist!

Thanks buckjoseph, In 1989 and in 1990 I wrote lyrics to two songs that became world famous and I received nothing for my efforts but the knowledge that I had written these to share with the world and helped many people. (one for may father who raised me up and lifted my wings, the other in memory of fallen soldiers and my friend who died in Vietnam) I was suffering with a brain tumor and later had an operation.I later copyrighted my future work and as yet have not had any published except on Hub Pages. One day when I go to be with the Lord, He will say to me, "well done my good and faithful servant", and I will be fulfilled in my works.
