Thor 2: The Dark World Soundtrack

Thor 2 Soundtrack

[Update/Edit]: Thor 2 will now be scored by Brian Tyler, not Carter Burwell as previously reported below.

American film composer Carter Burwell has been tapped to write and compose the score for Thor 2: The Dark World. Burwell is a well-accomplished composer. He's behind the scores for critically-acclaimed (music-wise) films like Breaking Dawn Part I, The Blind Side, Where the Wild Things Are, Twilight, In Bruges, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, The Spanish Prisoner, Hamlet, Conspiracy Theory, And the Band Played On and Miller's Crossing. Burwell is also known for providing music for all of the films ever made by the Coen Brothers except for O Brother, Where Art Though. Although Burwell wasn't the principal composer for O Brother, Where Art Though (that honor goes to T-Bone Burnett), he still provided additional music for the film.

Looking at Burwell's resume, he indeed have the skills as well as the experience to come up with a great score for Thor 2: The Dark World. The first Thor film was scored by Patrick Doyle. And Doyle, without a doubt did a great job. He even earned a nomination from the World Soundtrack Award in the Soundtrack Composer of the Year category for his work on the film. He lost though to Alxandre Desplat. The score for the first Thor film was great. Will Burwell's score for the second installment be better? Or will it fell short in matching Doyle's score? We'll find out when Thor 2 arrives in theaters this fall.

Burwell's most recent effort is a score for the black comedy Seven Psychopaths by director Martin McDonagh. Before that, he scored The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part a and 2 (2011 and 2012 respectively), Howl (2010), True Grit (2010) and The Kids Are All Right (2010).
