Top 10 Best Romance Anime Series - Anime Recommendations
Top 10 Best Romance Anime
This are my personal top 10 best romance anime This list is just for fun and is by no means an absolute top 10. If I have left out your favorite series, please feel free to let me know using the comment box below. :D
There is also a new update version for 2015 which you can check it out here.
1. Kaichou wa Maid-sama
This anime really tops the list, in my opinion. The story begins at an all-boys school that has recently begun to accept girls. Of course, with such a drastic change comes tremendous shock. It is terrifying for girls just to be in this school, let alone try to study there. Along comes Misaki Ayuzawa, who becomes the first female student council president and leads the girl charge to make the school safe for girls. She might be tough and even look like a "boy hater" but the twist is that she works as a maid outside of school. Soon enough, a guy named Takumi starts paying attention to her after discovering her "secret" and the two realize they are in love.
2. Clannad/Clannad After Story
Clannad is set in a private high school. Tomoya Okazaki is a student who doesn't take his studies seriously. His father is an alcoholic and a gambler. Tomoya hates his life: he hates school, his daily routine, and his father. He is late for school every day. Just when he thinks that his life is always going to be horrible, he meets a strange girl and things start to get interesting.
Clannad After Story is set a few years after Clannad ends. In this story, Tomoya and the strange girl (Nagisa) are together but life is difficult. One tragedy after another take place . . . in one universe. Meanwhile in a mysterious "Illusionary World" Tomoya and Nagisa are happy and everything is going well.
Tomoya Okazaki is a high school delinquent being raised by an alcoholic gambler father. He hates his dad with a passiohen Tomoya thinks his life couldn't get any worse, he meets Nagisa Furukawa and life starts to get better. Note: There is a game based on the Clannad series.
Toradora is funny as well as romantic. The protagonist is Ryūji Takasu, a gentle guy with eyes that make him look mean and tough. They say looks can be deceiving, and Takasu is a perfect example of this. Raised by a single mother, Takasu is gentle and independent. At school he is in the same class as his secret crush and another girl, Taiga, who is super tough. Together, Ryüki and Taiga help each other win their love interests' attention.
Itazura na Kiss
Girls love this anime caters because the guy is a hottie. Personally, I like the romance and highly recommend Itazura na Kiss for the story alone. The female protagonist Kotoko is a senior in high school. She musters all her courage and confesses her love Naoki, the most handsome boy in the school. He rejects her right away. But after an earthquake destroys Kotoko's family home, her father seeks help from a childhood friend and Kotoko's family moves in with the friend and his family. Surprise! Her father's friend is Naoki's father so Kotoko gets the pain (and pleasure) of living with the crush who spurned her . . . at first.
5. Karin (Chibi Vampire)
Vampires like to suck human blood, but a vampire named Karin likes to give blood to her victims. Karin is the middle child in a family of vampires, but she is different from her siblings. She doesn't suck blood, she makes it. When she bites people, she gives her victims blood. If she doesn't bite anyone she experiences crazy nose bleeds.
Karin's life at school is normal from the outside and she develops a crush on a new transfer student, Kenta Usui. Whenever Karin is near him, she makes even more blood than usual. Eventually Kenta begins to suspect that something strange is going on and he discovers her secret . . .
6. Lovely Complex
Known as Love*Com, this series follows Risa, who is unusually tall for a girl, and Atsushi, who is unusually short for a boy. They are friends that always bicker and quarrel. During summer school they each meet someone they like and decide to help each other win their crushes. When their crushes end up dating each other, Risa realizes that she has feelings for Atsushi . . .
7. School Rumble
Another great anime set in a high school, School Rumble focuses on two main protagonists: Kenji and Tenma. Kenji is a tough boy with a secret crush on Tenma, while Tenma has a crush on the quiet and mysterious Oji. Each character in this love triangle struggles to confess their feelings and do lots of quirky things to distract themselves, like stuff themselves with curry.
8. Zero No Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero)
A noble girl named Louise is absolutely inept at using magic. She is teased by her peers and called "Louise the Zero" for her total inability to use any of the four elements. During their second year in school, the characters have to summon a familiar to serve as a companion. Familiars are usually magical creatures, but Louise summons Saito, an ordinary teenage boy from Japan. She is totally humiliated by her mistake and treats Saito like a slave, until the two of them become friends and help each other.
9. Special A
Special A, or S.A., is about a very competitive girl named Hikari who is defeated in a wrestling match by a boy named Kei. From that moment on, Hikari is determined to beat Kei at everything: sports and academics. With all of this competition going on, Hikari does not realize Kei is actually in love with her.
10. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu is a companion series to Full Metal Panic! I included it in this list because I love mecha anime with action and romance mixed together. This story follows Sagara Sousuke, a member of a secret anti-terrorist organization, who is ordered to protect a girl named Kaname Chidori. At first, Sousuke doesn't understand what is so special about her, but he soon realizes that she can activate a powerful military device. Meanwhile, Chidori is developing a crush on Sousuke.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu is funnier and more romantic than the original FMP. If you like more serious stories, watch Full Metal Panic! and FMP: The Second Raid.
